The game is balanced.
It isn't focused on casuals or hardcore players, just hobbiests. Some aspects are difficult and some are not, the problem with difficult tasks is that it should be limited to loot rewards and not story elements. Story elements are there for world building, and if you lock that behind difficult activites you're block that portion of your playerbase from enjoying the game in it's entirety. This is where New Light went wrong.
This also goes for forced PvP quest steps for progression, this goes for Raids not having a Story mode, this goes for activites being too easy and repetitive where they hold next to no value. Power is supposed to represent value, but the more serious players breeze through that anyway, and say "What's next? This is boring."
We can't have Pinnacles anymore because it created a problem, with regular loot values and the overall experience of gameplay.
We can't have Competitive Crucible anymore because of how P2P networking works, and on top of that had such grossly over used weapons that they became staples in PvE, which then created the gatekeeper problem because PvE players going against PvP players for the same rewards, but with a more difficult journey because they had to face already good players with the better weapons that they were trying to get to begin with.
Iron Banner, a free weekly seasonal event for everyone, replaces Competitive Crucible with it's competitive status with being locked out of rewards until you meet a certain standard. Then the rewards were kept the same, and we just lost our accessibility to make the loot seem "prestigious".
This is the problem with "difficulty" in this game. People say they want difficult, but it ends up being annoying and tedious.
We need to have both, and not have it be interlaced into each other. We need to be able to choose the level of difficulty, and the quality of our rewards. We need to have options, and this game lacks that.

It's almost as if a design philosophy that attempts to merge PvE and PvP together to attract as many people from radically different audiences as possible is and always was a stupid and terrible idea! Who woulda thought? (Haha! Not Bungo!)
-
Ah yes, Mr. PvP is the bane of Destiny. Go play Borderlands or Anthem if you don’t like PvP. Let us have our fun. Smh.

Edited by Hesh: 1/10/2020 8:09:39 PMAnd who is “us” exactly? The section of the community that only enjoys PvP, I’m assuming? You need to clarify, sir! We’re all already at each other’s throats here because we’re all from different audiences! So with that, go play CoD or Halo: MCC! Let US have OUR fun! Hahahahaha!

Not even close. There’s people who only enjoy PvP, there’s people who only enjoy PvE, and then there’s people like ME, who enjoy BOTH. You’ll notice there’s never a SINGLE post from a PvP player saying to “remove PvE because it’s ruining PvP” now do you? People already DO let you have your fun. You’re not letting other people have their fair share. PvP has been a feature of Destiny since D1. Lord Shaxx, the Crucible Handler, is an integral character of the game. Hell, there’s even more PvP in Destiny with the introduction of Gambit. And there might be even more with D3, there’s rumors of PvPvE patrol zones. Point is, PvP isn’t going anywhere. And it’s not fair that just because you don’t like PvP, you believe that gives you justification to shit on it and anyone who enjoys it. You have your PvE, nobody is trying to take it away from you. Let people have their PvP. Not a hard concept.

No, what isn't a hard concept is making a game for one audience only. If Bungo knew what they were doing, they woulda just done that so that nothing like what happens in these servers would ever occur in the first place. And no, I don't have my PvE. Not yet. Not until PvP and PvEvP are far removed from it so it can finally flourish. This is exactly why you don't make a game where players have to have their "fair share". Ridiculous in concept. Horrible in execution. I don't care if PvP's been a tumor on its game design since D1. I don't care if Shaxx is supposed to be an integral character. The game does next to nothing to make him feel like that anyway. (Hell, the D3 rumors also state the City is gonna be destroyed completely in the Second Collapse. I doubt the quality of their storytelling will improve by that point, but for all I care, Shaxx and his Crucible can die there.) I'm not sayin' you or anyone else can't enjoy Destiny's brand of unbalanced poorly-designed PvP. Do whatever the hell ya want! All I'm shittin' on is the franchise's obvious flaws of game design that shouldn't even have been there. If Bungo knows better, they'll pick a single audience to please with Destiny 3 so this franchise can actually be good for once in its life.
-
Hm. That’s fair. A different outlook than I’ve heard but I can get on board.

Edited by Hesh: 1/10/2020 10:32:52 PMI don't even care if they pick PvP over PvE in D3. Just make a proper PvE OR PvP game with elements that facilitate the enjoyment of a single audience, just like every dev with even half a brain knows. I like FPSs with either or, but those games weren't looters. Both styles of gameplay merged together in a loot-based game is NOT how to do both correctly.

That's a completely fair statement!
