Just want to thank Bungie for Halo Reach

Truly a masterpiece, and so looking forward to playing the remastered version tonight. I really hope 343 does it justice for you.

  • Above all else it makes me miss how good bungie used to be at storytelling. Even though Reach’s story is somewhat flawed and not the best in the Halo franchise, it is still miles better than anything to come out of Destiny in the past 5 years. Going back and playing the campaign again, it amazes me how they were able to make the deaths of Noble team emotional even though Reach was their first appearance and they had no attachment to the player from the original trilogy’s story. Jorge’s death alone was more saddening to me than Cayde’s death in destiny and he had 4 years of development before that.

This re-release not only reignited the old complaints that Reach had nine years ago, but it also reminded my why I hate Midship and all of its remakes and remasters that Halo devs seem so very fond of creating. Such an atrocious map that should have stayed a forgotten memory in my mind, and now has once again come to haunt me. edit: yikes i already posted in this thread, woops

  • After having 12 hours of gametime, here's my thoughts and observations, and this is coming from someone who has 40+ days of gametime on original Reach: - The hit detection is absolute garbage and the game now has Bloodshots which was only an issue in Halo 3. The Xbox 360 version's hit detection was superior and never had Bloodshots. - Having no Forge mode for PC at launch is unacceptable especially with all the new items they have teased for Forge. The Invasion forge map Floodgate has these new items on there but you can't use any of them on the console version of Reach... and that one has the Forge mode. - The new leveling system is a joke compared to the original, which itself was a joke. Literally everyone that was excited for Reach asked to have the old leveling system and armor unlock system to come back. - The 60fps buffed the DMR and Needle Rifle. The weapons have a faster rate of fire now so spamming both weapons is what everyone does. I don't even want to play Zero Bloom gamemodes at all because of this because the Magnum will dominate. Reach's gunplay is even more unbalanced than it ever was before. Vanilla Reach bloom is downright unbearable. - You can't see other people's Spartans in the menus like the original version. - The UI and menus are inferior to the Xbox 360 version. - The overall sound of the game sounds completely off at certain points, especially when in big battles. The Assault Rifle, Machine Gun Turret, and Spartan Laser are prime examples of the sound being weird. All in all, there's a bunch of other stuff wrong with the game that I'm sure I'm missing that other players have noticed. 343 should have delayed this game a couple more months so they could have properly ported the original game as best they could. At the current state the game is in right now along with nearly everyone complaining about things that people have always complained about with Reach back in the day, this game is not going to last very long. Releasing Reach first was a stupid idea. They should have done Halo 3 first since people have wanted that game on PC since 2007 and is the more critically acclaimed and more popular game over Reach.

    • Reach was fantastic. It was the game that really got me interacting with the Bungie.net community and meeting new people, many of which I'm still friends with to this day. The PC release makes me happy because I see people rediscovering it and enjoying the game a second time, as well as a new generation of people playing it for the first time.

    • Thanks for the worst bungie era halo game that introduced bad writing, bad characters, bad pvp, and bad grind to their design philosophy!
