FOMO sucks and makes the game feel more like a chore than fun. The real shame is that there are still fantastic parts to this expansion like the raid and dungeon but there's so much garbage and repetition to get to them through levelling and gearing up. Do strikes, gambit, PvP but it's the same every season. Not enough new maps are added in each DLC and the roation is piss poor. I play the same map sometimes 3 times in a row and when grinding some comp the other day I think I saw 3 maps in total. To be fair there are so many strikes in the game, so why repeat the same few over and over? Grinding would feel much less grindy imo.
Overall if this was a regular DLC like Curse of Osiris then it'd be ok but for an annual update it sure is minimal effort. My concern now is what for the rest of the year? More FOMO grind nonsense with less and less new content it seems.

You can't monetize content in PVP. You break up the player base when you do it. ...and this community throws a hissy-fit about Eververse. So you can't have it both ways.
-
The odd part about the FOMO is it was already naturally there in the best ways. Cayde: When new players play old strikes they'll automatically question who the character is they hear. Unless they play the legacy campaign they won't know. Even then it's still a "had to be there moment", because at the time the entire story focus was on that. Mara Sov: If you did the Blind Well blessings late in the game, you won't see the queen at her throne anymore. A natural had to be there moment. Those are better ways to go about creating FOMO. Let it naturally occur because of story threads, not just through gameplay activities and rewards being taken away.
-
Well said. As I said in my own response, nobody was asking for manufactured "had to be there" moments. Those moments just naturally occur when you've made something special.

This. ↑ ↑ I actually just picked up Diablo 3 for cheap last night. I was already max level but that was on my PS4 and found out I have more buddies on my xbox so it's their turn to power level me. Between that and BL3 (which admittedly has it's own issues) I think most of my time will be there. Unless the show me something spectacular on Wednesday during their "Live stream". But I have tempered my expectations already.

Diablo 3 is a five year old game. Most of which gets paid for by World of Warcraft
-
No. Diablo 3 gets paid for by buying the game.
-
Diablo 3 has not had a paid expansion since 2014. Yet gets new content each season. Do the math.
-
The seasons could drop dead and the same game would still be a blast to play. Not everything needs to be -blam!-ing Fortnite.
-
But you’d have long since run out of things to do.
-
In Diablo 3? No, not so much. Seven character classes... I think something like 10 difficulty levels. You can perpetually run rifts, going for better clear times and loot. Grinding Paragon levels... It's not like seasons really add anything of substance. Just an excuse to reset seasonal progress for Reasons. They could just stop and Diablo would still be fun as what it is. Not. Every. Game. Needs. To. Be. A. Live. Service. It's a 7 year old game. Either it still holds replay value or it doesn't. Either way, anyone who bought it has probably more than gotten their $60 worth by now.
-
Trust me. You would. It might take you awhile. But you would.
-
And you know what, that is just fine. The game is 7 years old. A game that came out in 2012 being out of anything new in 2019 is COMPLETELY OKAY. Say it with me: Not. Every. Game. Needs. To. Be. A. Live. Service. After 7 years, it is more than fine to move on to another game. Or keep playing the same one over and over. Whatever. Not sure where this notion that it needs to be perpetually kept "fresh" came from. The Fortnite model of weaponizing FOMO with seasons should not be ported over to every game. And it sure as hell is not doing Destiny any good.
-
You do realize that you’ve made a completely irrational argument, right?
-
How is my argument irrational?
-
Seven year old game running out of things to do? Fine. Live service game that doesn’t charge a sub fee runs out of things to do? It’s predatory!! Even though both games have seasonal content, and Diablo 3 has whole seasonal characters that disappear from the game at season’s end. Complete and total double standard.
-
I never said anything about Diablo (or anything else) being predatory. I never used that word at all, so kindly don't put words in my mouth. Diablo would be just fine if seasons stopped. I'm saying it doesn't need to be a live service. Shit, there is still a robust community that actively plays Diablo Two. Here's a not-secret: nobody ever asked for Diablo to become a live service. That's what World of Warcraft is for. So yeah, if Diablo 3 content stopped cold right now, so what? The game still is what it is, and you either think it's still fun or don't. There is nothing irrational about any of that.

Edited by kellygreen45: 12/3/2019 8:14:37 PM1. What do you think “weappnized FOMO” is? 2. But Diablo3 does have seasons and it IS a live service game that is regularly updated. 3. So judgedingbthe games by different standards is ridiculously unfair.
-
When I say "weaponized FOMO" it has nothing to do with money. What I take issue with is them actively making the game feel like a job. By just arbitrarily deleting your progress on activities in the game for Reasons. This game already has a lot of timers that need to be removed. Now we have a model where you have 10 weeks and shit just gets reset for Reasons (vendor rank wipes are the worst and it's totally arbitrary). Heres 100 levels of stuff you bought.........but if you want it all, you need to log about 100 hours. Yeah, not everyone has that kind of time for a video game. So cut that in half...now we're talking. Or is the part of this that's "working" the Black Garden skinned Menagerie knock-off? Or is it the half-assed copy-and-paste in the Undying Mind as the final boss for the last week? The Fortnite model has sucked the soul out of this game. And again...NONE of this is about the money.
-
Then you May want to choose a different term.
-
I seem to be missing your point? I understand Diablo is an older game, that I got for pretty cheap. Along with BL3 they will probably fill the time in since the seasons seem to be lacking imo.
-
If you think you’re going to get the best gears in those games without a lot of repetition and grinding, you’re going to be in for a bit of a surprise.
-
Go re-read the first sentence on my post.......I was already max on my ps4 account. I'm fully aware of what those 2 games are about lol.
-
But apparently not aware that this game is the same way?? Especially since D2 has a much wider variety of things to do than any of its competitors.
-
I agree that D2 has allot of content. All I was trying to imply was that outside of SK the season didn't have very much content. So I listed 2 examples of games that I'd probably be a bit more focused on. I didn't say I was quitting or would never play but also tried to imply that the amount of content based on the season outside of SK was small and kinda disappointing imo.

Edited by kellygreen45: 12/3/2019 3:16:25 PMIf the goal is to PACE content delivery over a year, why would you release a lot with the DLC?? Also the $10 price point has to be considered. People’s expectations get out of whack.
