I saw some comedian on Facebook and he did this little video review of this time on stage he “owned” a heckler. Then I come to realize almost all of his videos are commentary videos while showing times he “owned” a heckler. It got me thinking these people might not only be part of his act to make him look better (because his jokes were honestly not good enough on their own and deserved to be heckled), but also he plants them just so he can make these commentary videos on the incidents.
It got me thinking that a good amount of hecklers could just be people planted in the audience and told to say a certain thing. Maybe they get paid to do so or they’re friends with the comedian.

No. Hecklers are to comedians what trolls are to streamers. More than enough attention-seeking assholes who want to ruin other people’s fun. No need to plant them. Like weeds, they always turn up if you don’t make efforts to control them.

I'm sure they do

I believe it's very likely that the unknown comics would do such a thing to try to get attention. Not much online surprises me anymore.
