I find doing the quest to get Eriana's Vow Catalyst is a huge waste of time because even after all the strikes I've done even with the boosters I still have only 1% of progress and I'm well over 100 whatever season rank also. Bungie needs to increase the amount of progress earned exponentially or just make the catalyst drop from a nightfall which would preferably be better.

There's a cheese to get both the Erianas and Symmetry catalyst first steps done. It tells you to complete activities, now everyone believes you need either gun equipped, you don't. In fact for Erianas, I found progress going up by using lunas Howl in IB. I actually completed symmetry using frostmires Hex in IB. Just remember to have the exotic catalyst quest boosts maxed in pass to speed up progression.
-
Don’t do it then... actually makes the gun very good... use it a lot in pve myself
-
You’re full of it. With all the boosters, one strike is 1%. We had Mayhem twice. No reason people shouldn’t have it finished.
-
I love the one taps. With exams rolling around i cant grind for this shit. Will do eventually
-
Not even going to bother, I don't like the gun.
-
The weapon just isn’t useful for very much.
-
I think bungo just sat back laughing with each other when they made this to see how many people would actually do it
-
Takes 700 kills to do, which is quite a lot considering a lot of other catalysts only need about 200 to 500 kills to complete.. The problem with Eriana's Vow is, it's not very good in general. Sure, it's an anti-barrier weapon, but there's so many other weapons that can do what Eriana's Vow does.
-
The trick with a lot of these quests is to plan activities so that you're accomplishing several things at once. For example, you can run a bunch of Gambit matches and work on the 21% Delirium and the Eriana's Vow catalyst progress at the same time. Hell, you can even equip a bow in the energy slot to work on bow kills for the Hush quest. (Make sure to equip Eriana's before the match ends so you get credit for the progress). You can even make progress on the Malfeasance quest at the same time if you're at a Gambit step of that quest.
-
It's meant to be a grind. Typically just finding a catalyst is a grind and then unlocking the catalyst is a grind. Maybe this game is too hard core for you? I got mine done a few weeks ago.
-
You dont have to use Eriana's for the entire activity, just switch to it right before the end of whatever you're doing.
-
The catalyst is amazing though. You get 9 bullets instead of six. However, you'll still reload after 3-4 shots so....yeah...😬
-
Gambit Prime gives 2% per game. Only 50 Gambit Prime games to obtain the catalyst, then only 300 Legionary kills on the Leviathan! Yeah it's kind of hell lol. I did it because I like the gun in Iron Banner and my friends have been farming Gambit a lot for previous pinnacle weapons and I've been helping, so it wasn't too annoying in the end.
-
It's the best pve exotic in the game with the catalyst, they better make you work for it.

Edited by Jamestown01010: 12/1/2019 7:44:42 PMYep, disappointing. Catalyst just gives more ammo, so don’t expect the grind will get you much. Reminded me of Hush. Lots of investment for little return.
-
How can you only be at 1%? The quest requires 400 points, one per completed strike/gambit/VO/crucible match. The Season Pass boosters can quadruple that, so at best you'll get 4 points per activity, so 100 activities if you do nothing before getting 4x multiplier. Although even with that, 100 completions to get the catalyst (then 700 kills) is a crazy grind. Should've been like 200 points to start, so 50 with the quadruple bonus.
-
That’s just to get the catalyst. Then you have to complete it. It’s a lot.
-
If a player likes Eriana's Vow, then the catalyst is not a waste of time. It's a definite boost to the weapon that improves it's natural usage and works well with the playstyles of the weapon. The progress gain on the quest is definitely tedious, maybe unnecessarily. It probably could have had a complimentary system where usage and kills against powerful enemies/champions/guardians provided boosted progress as well. Why Ordeals did not count for Strikes is also a mystery.
-
I did it in mayhem since I rarely use weapons since the abilities come back quickly and the matches pass much quicker than Gambit or strikes. For the kills I went under green room in heroic whisper mission and used tether with Orpheus rigs and had it finished after a couple of runs.
-
Alot of stuff in D2 is a waste of time.....
-
I haven't even bothered with the quest since it's just so long, i tried a few survival matches yesterday with it but it just wasn't great (switched to Ace/Trust since i need HC precision kills, 58 to go)
-
It makes the gun very good though

I keep forgetting to equip it at the end of matches and stuff. I may actually have to use it so I don’t forget......

And then watch them make an activity where players say "must have Eriana's Vow with masterworked catalyst"...... Just to join their fireteam. This game has become a revolving cycle of crap lately.
-
Hell no to RNG. I would take a grind too long over luck any day. It took way longer to get the RNG catalysts from strikes then it did to play 50 Gambit Prime matches.

Much like a lot of things in destiny
