The only available source to obtain the ascendant shards being from the Master Nightfall in my opinion is not enough. I know you can purchase them from Banshee but for the steep price of 100 masterwork cores that is simply ridiculous.
I have no issues running the 980 Master NF and I have done so already but let’s be honest even then it’s not a guaranteed drop. You could spend upward of 2-3 hours without seeing one drop. Something needs to change with regards to places we can acquire these. How about get one per account per week for clan XP?
At least prior to season 8 you could earn enough cores to masterwork something simply by playing the game and doing anything. Now you’re pretty much stuck at Tier 9 on an armor piece unless you run a 980 NF for a chance.
On top of all that I bet you a large portion of the community haven’t even attempted a Master NF. For everyone’s sake Bungie, change something.

Fully agree, especially facing the fact that masterworking an Exo costs 3 shards.... and dismanteling (e.g. in case you get a piece with better stats) doesn't return them!!
-
Raids should drop them, resetting your valor or infamy should give you shards. Putting this extremely valuable resource behind a single activity is bad game design. There’s more to the game than just nightfalls and players need more options not less.

5 RepliesIt's not really a fix, but, something to take the edge off... Run Pit of Heresy. Do it once a week on every character you have. The pinnacle gear that drops is masterworked already. If you see it's an upgrade, congrats, you just got an awesome piece of loot. If it's JUST something you would infuse to gain two power levels, DO NOT DO THAT. Dismantle that -blam!-. 6 cores and 6 prisms. That's 18 cores/prisms a week, assuming 3 characters. That should allow you to get basically 2 shards a week if all you do is dismantle them. A month of that, and your main shit should be all masterworked! Remember, power means almost nothing, the goal here is to attain better stats. Masterworking your gear gives 2 points to each stat, so that's almost a full tier to each stat by itself.

3 RepliesAsk Datto to make a video.

5 RepliesAscendant Shards aren't even guranteed from a 980 NF, are they?
-
1 ReplyAscendant shards are the new enhancement cores, bungie will never get it or change their way, the community has tried. Pit of heresy is now my source.
-
2 RepliesI’ve basically ignored armor 2.0 for this reason. Just unlock to 7 on all my armor and throw whatever mods on that’ll fit. I haven’t used a single ascendant shard because there’s no point. What if I use it on a piece of armor with the wrong affinity? Each season the artifact will push a new set of weapons on us, so you need to make sure you have the affinity that supports those weapons 🥴

3 hours huh? Only if your day job was to play games for others to watch and subscribe then this won't be an issue. Maybe the game is supposed to be played like that...
-
1 ReplyHeard the Armor stat increase was like 2? Seriously, these things have no business being this difficult to get. They overvalue 2.0 wayyyy too much to where it disincentivizes any reason to bother in the long run.
-
6 RepliesI think the ones I have came from the season rewards. I haven't used any of them, because I'm afraid as soon as I MW a piece, something better will drop. Anyone else think this way?
-
4 RepliesHow many people are actually at 980? I'm not anywhere close, not in the least because getting pinnacle loot requires a premade fireteam.
-
I don't even see the point of fully masterworking armor. The purpose now is tied behind putting more mods on gear, but I don't have the mods I want and I won't mindlessly grind for them.
-
3 RepliesI haven’t even try 980 nf . What’s a point of doing shit when you get shit for you time invested .
-
The problem with Destiny 2, is it’s too geared to pro-style gamers that have the time or are so good at the game that it’s no big deal to run thru hard content like that and maybe by chance get a shard ... not everyone is just that good or has the time to level up in the time frame ..... I know my opinion doesn’t mean a damn thing and the only reason I’m saying anything is because I’ve said the same thing
-
8 RepliesThe 980 nf is not bad. I would farm them at 965. My nest so far was 4 runs 3 ascendant shards and enough prisms to buy 1. So i dont see the problem. Dont want to grind? Well you dont deserve max tier armour.
-
This system is great. This week I have run 14 master nightfalls. I got 6 shards, 30+ prisms, and 7 exotics(including drops during the run). I think the rewards are outstanding actually.
-
Just run 10 hero NF for 10 prisms and turn them in for 1 ascendant shard haha
-
Resetting your valour in crucible should give you something...same with a weekly Iron Banner bounty.
-
And if you do manage to masterwork an armor piece, if you end up finding a better one you have to start all over since you don't get your shard back from dismantling. Valor/Glory rank-ups should award them as well as a weekly bounty from Banshee.
-
Yeah it sucks specifically for people who mainly PvP - getting one for a rank reset or achieving Legend rank etc would be nice
-
I’ve used one so far, can’t say I really need them, seem pretty pointless to me especially when you consider the cost and time involved to get one.
-
Biggest joke yet...
-
In my opinion current drop source is ok and needs no change. May be they could add a guaranteed drop at 150k score.
-
8 RepliesWhile I do think there should be more sources for ascendant shards they really do not cost 100 enhancement cores... The prisms can be obtained from ordeal NF's on Hero difficulty which has MM and then it will only cost 50k glimmer and 100 mats.

If only th 980 would guarantee an Ascendant Shard. But no, you can get 2 prisms instead. Anyway, I totally agree with this.
