What could possibly go wrong, Bungie.
EDIT: Further explanation below:
There are lots of comparisons to Handheld and Shoulder Charge, but people need to realize that those require Exotics to get the maximum efficiency out of them. This Throwing Knife change does not; Hunters have the full luxury of being free to choose whatever Exotic they desire still. It can be Stompies with High Jump, because Knives can be thrown mid-jump ability, or it can be Ophidia Spathe to get an additional charge which is something the other classes can't even do. Handheld's "recharge mechanic" is completely RNG too which is stupid enough. It should be a flat amount but that's a topic for another thread.
On the topic of "skill requirement" yes, Throwing Knife does require more skill than the other two. The thing though is that Shoulder Charge is an actual melee and operates in the same range Shotguns do. Handheld Supernova has a maximum range of 15m so it's safer from this, but the charge time is long enough to where you must be "pre-holding" it to actually use it without getting gap closed and Shotgunned. (This is where Contraverse comes in since you can tank a Shotgun shot) There is also a noticeable fizzle noise when someone is charging it allowing for backpedaling.
Now on the topic of Throwing Knives. They have a big hitbox. I'm not saying it's so big that landing crits is a cakewalk, but it's truly not that difficult to accomplish. The knife may well have a windup time similar to Handheld, but the ability to be able to backpedal with your jump ability WHILE THROWING is critical and cannot be overlooked. With no mention of harder drop, only increased velocity, it's safe to assume this knife will be much easier to consistently crit with in ranges well beyond Shotgun range (20m+). Any windup that people are concerned over can easily be fixed by starting your throw before going around a corner, like Handheld. Miss? No biggie if you have a second charge or run the dodge for melee energy. Hit the body? Assuming critical modifier is the same, 1.3x, the knife will do at least 154 to the the body. Equivalent to a Sniper Rifle body shot, giving very easy cleanup opportunities or situations where it may be advantageous to just body someone. (High Strength builds come to mind for a playstyle like this)
If Handheld is considered a pocket Shotgun, this throwing knife is likely going to be the equivalent of a pocket Fusion Rifle.
1 ReplyOphidia spathe / gamblers dodge laughs in delight...
-
11 RepliesNot even a hunter main but throwing knives take more skill to use than shoulder charge and handheld. Change my mind.
-
On a pve focused class. Six shooter is getting basically a nerf. Plus it requires a wind up now. Not as bad as a 1 hit melee that refreshes every kill, because you wear a shiny helmet. Hunters get a singular 1 shot ability and its appearently a warcrime. If that shouldnt be able to 1 shot. Niether should shoulder charge, nor handheld supernova.
-
Let's add a 1 shot grenade that can while the whole squad. Vs a 1 shot PRECISION 1 TARGET KNIFE.
-
Just like the good old days, now they just need to let’s us unicorn players again with the trip mine😁
-
19 RepliesIt is going to have a charge to it. And you need the precision kill for it to refresh. It’s a high risk high reward deal.
-
All the have to do is have a slight delay on when the charge resets and it’ll be fine. If you are the second guy hit with a knife then that is probably solely on you for not paying attention to what is going on. But I’m sure someone will find a reason to -blam!- about it.
-
Double ohk knives and a dodge refresh? Lol. Gonna be hilarious.
-
1 ReplyAs a hunter main: I don’t have a good feeling about this *ghost voice*
-
Yeah idk why Bungie thinks this is a good idea
-
5 RepliesI really hate these cheap gimmick kills. The titans shoulder charge is ridiculously stupid. This may be as well.
-
4 RepliesWarlocks and Titans have OHK abilities. What is SO bad about Hunters having one too?
-
31 RepliesSo same as shoulder charge with skullfort. Or handheld supernova with the exotic gloves.
-
1 ReplyWell we know bungie likely didn’t test it in game, so it will be up to us to find out how broken it will be.
-
2 RepliesAll this will do is create even more toxic behavior between Titans and hunters than there already is. I don't even get shoulder charged that much in pvp, like maybe once or twice per match on average. I personally only use it when the situation is right. Mostly though in pvp I play bottom tree solar Titan which does not even have a OHK melee. But if after this buff goes into effect i start getting killed 15 times a match by a 1hk throwing knife from 20+ feet away you damn well better believe I'm putting on skull fort and running around doing absolutely nothing but shoulder charging hunters.

Edited by Dr. Kaal: 11/22/2019 9:24:27 PMYou do realize titans and warlocks already do that and don’t even need aim?
-
Nurf titans
-
I think it sounds okay, it has to charge just like shoulder charge and handheld.
-
Edited by Major-Payne: 11/22/2019 3:39:42 AMI hope every titan complains until their heads explode until we get a dodge. Apparently that’s the only way to get what you want in middle earth.
-
9 RepliesYay all 3 classes get 1 shots.....what can go wrong....
-
3 RepliesEdited by RPColten: 11/21/2019 11:43:13 PMPeople were whining about Hunters not having a cheap one-hit-kill gimick baked into their subclass, so here we are. At least it's a nice and solid PvE throwing knife buff.
-
Idk, ask PC
-
1 ReplySounds like there’s a charge time for the throw though? Assuming it will be similar in length to a fusion charge, so maybe won’t be as crazy as it sounds... although I main a solar hunter so looking forward to next season! 🔥🔥🔥
-
Well you know warlock melee range and speed is too much to handle and completely unfair to hunters, so this move is so justified.... Insert sarcasm. My goodness....
-
2 RepliesI despise hand held supernova, now hunters getting that kinda thing too man this is gonna kill it for me man
-
....a titan attempting a shoulder charge could go wrong lol
