For those of you grinding to get this weapon, you all know the pain of this grind. This quest almost completely broke me. I was literally making progress on MOUNTAINTOP five times faster than i did with this gun. I finally got it, and now i'm going to let yall know if its worth it:
The Archetype:
Im gonna be honest, i never liked Black Scorpion. It was bouncy, unwieldy, and incredibly inaccurate even on PC. The ammo-efficiency was god-awful and so was the range. When i got Randy i expected it to handle generally the same way, but oh boy was i wrong. Randy is accurate, it's recoil is manageable and predictable, and it feels incredibly nice. The ammo reserves are totally awful still, so you better keep that in mind if you want to hold a lane with this. You CAN do it, but you will eventually run out of bullets.
The Perks:
I gotta be honest, i dont see the appeal of Rapid Hit / Kill Clip. I mean i know it's a good perk combo but i personally have had way more success using Snapshot and Zen Moment in PVP. Maybe it's because i used MIDA for the Randy quest, but this gun's ADS speed is way too slow for me without snapshot. Snapshot lets me instantly ready for an engagement even when the enemy jumps me unexpectedly, so i would highly recommend it.
The Quirks:
While i normally hate full-auto on scout rifles, Randy firing in full-auto somehow works to it's advantage. Randy is incredibly good at hitting fast-moving targets, even in midair, and it's also great for gunning down people running for cover. I have landed kills with Randy that i KNOW Mida would not have been able to pull off, such as snagging the final blow in a teamshooting situation or picking a high-mobility Hunter out of the sky. This gun is a damn FLAK cannon at times, and its just hilarious for that reason.
The Strategy:
Randy is incredibly effective in 1v1 situations. The high RPM and full-auto mean your opponent is almost totally unable to land headshots on you so long as you dont miss. While you would expect a scout like this to be best in a hyper-aggressive playstyle, it's also quite good at holding lanes. The ability to easily hit moving targets means you can completely block off an entire area and not let the opponent gain a single inch of ground.
All in all, I think this gun was 100% worth the grind, with a caveat. Because i used MIDA to complete the quest instead of something like Jade Rabbit, i was already well-adjusted to its playstyle and quirks. For those of you grinding momentum with Jade, you may find this weapon very difficult to use. It's not the kind of gun you can just crouch in a corner with, you need to be strafing and avoiding your enemy's attacks while keeping the reticle on them at all times. I found that Jade is very unreliable when strafing in this manner. If you love being very fast and overwhelming people with flinch, this gun is definitely one you should get. It's like a modified MIDA with killclip.

1 ReplyJust get the Randy. Huge deception. So far from the MIDA who can quad tap... Strangely, he can be efficient in PvE with Rapid Hit.
-
4 RepliesIt has a hit detection problem. I dont really care for it.

8/10 Not enough actual knives

3 RepliesEdited by WormChi: 11/13/2019 8:23:28 AMI have every pinnacle pvp weapon but I have no drive to get this one. Maybe one day, but I just don’t feel like grinding the scout kills right now. I’m stick to my Handcannon sniper thanks.

On PS4 with a controller it feels very much like Black Scorpion to me. I struggle to get rapid hit going. But I do very much like it.

Love this gun Pew pew pew at 2 trillion bullets a second Makes a scrub like me look slightly decent lol

4 RepliesBest scout in the game (except on Equinox, where the slow firing ones dominate). Only scout viable against pulses/handcannons on most maps.
-
2 RepliesIt's a good weapon, it's just not for everyone.

6 RepliesEdited by RANGERX117: 11/12/2019 3:38:49 PMI don't have Randy yet but since I have the MIDA catalyst I figure I will get Randy's on the way to finishing up the catalyst. The problem is not Randy....its all scouts. They need a buff to damage in PVP. In D1 Scouts were a very viable weapon in almost all situations. That is not the case any more an they have very low usage because of that. Once the Randy grind is over Scouts will go back in vaults and this little experiment will be over, without a buff. Randy's I fear will be like the grind for Redrix......not worth the effort but it was something to do.

3 RepliesEdited by Icon: 11/11/2019 9:57:18 PMIt was an extensive grind for 7 shards

1 ReplyA scout rifle is NOT a throwing knife.

Glad to see a review on it. I've only been killed by it once so far. I did start to wonder if the grind is worth it though. I just need 18% more on medals and then the 1700 glory I have left. I used Jade Rabbit, but that gun has always been different. I've been rocking it since D1 and recently fell back in love with it during Momentum Control. I will say you can strafe with it, but you better be damn good at headshots. That's all I aim for so it's rare I take more than 3 shots on one person.

Edited by iDare2Defy: 11/12/2019 12:37:37 AMI really don’t care for it tbh. It fires too quickly. I’ll mean to just pop a dreg in the head and it’ll fire off two rounds before I can release the trigger. So it’s very meh. The grind was annoying as hell. So idk if it’s totally worth it. The completionist in me says it is but that’s cuz I want to have every gun.

1 ReplyOn console for me it's the opposite. I love my Black Scorpion and I really want to love the Randy but just don't like it as much. I have over 1,100 PvP kills with my Black Scorpion and wanted a kinetic 260rpm scout to pair with the Recluse. Once I saw Randy I grinded my butt off and got it in about three weeks. Got it the day before Momentum Control came out. So as for Randy I had to slap a counterbalance mod on it and try not to shot in full auto with it. I think I went snapshot and zen moment for perks. My question is why is the Broadsword the only pinnacle weapon that can still drop after we get it with random perks? Why can't I get another Randy with random perks or even a Recluse?

1 ReplyI have it, used it for a few games and then vaulted it. Your better off getting a rapid hit EP Nightwatch. It’s not bad it just doesn’t outperform other scouts you probably already have. The stickyness of the gun feels flimsy, its base AA is 63 while Nightwatch is 69, not bad for either but Nightwatch can roll with Chambered compensator or Arrowhead Break for better recoil control freeing up the mod slot for a targeting adjuster to make even stickier. My 2 cents.

It doesn't take that long. Play for a day and most people should have it

6 RepliesWait, randys is full auto?
-
The quest sucks, as does momentum control, yet here I am tirelessly grinding out scout kills and medals. Hope it's worth it, appreciate your post and review

1 ReplyI have a last question. I tried to do a lot of medals. Easy to do Submachiner (or as it is said) , but and as I read in the triumphs, to get the medal of the exploreror says: kill 5 opponents in a game. I have killed many more than 5 in several games, but I never get that medal, it would help me a lot because in each game I could get 1 or 2 medals. In IB they don't give weapons medals (right?) but in control they should, right? Maybe the description is wrong and is 5 kills in a life?

All that for a drop of clout

1 ReplyHow many hours total did it take you do you think? If you accidentally deleted randys throwing knife and the only way you could re-attain it was to grind for it again, would you do it?
-
I’m on PS4 and used a nightwatch scout to do Randys quest. I got the weapon yesterday am I have to say I prefer the nightwatch. I think I’ll try grinding a slightly better roll from the reckoning.
-
I actually needed this. I wanna do my usual weapon combo just like my Purpose scout rifle and Le Monarque bow. I wanna see how "OP" this Randy's and Le Monarque combo would be xD
-
2 RepliesI hate comp so I'll stick to MIDA.
-
4 RepliesThis post seems a little late... I had mine before they introduced momentum control.

12 RepliesWell, you have reassured me. It is really hard to get Randy out. I hate Randy .... I started to try (seriously) last week with the IB, and I have advanced, but the 14,000 medals / kills are getting very uphill. If, at least, you tell me it is worth it, then I will keep trying. There are fewer and fewer days left, and many times I get bored having to enter Crucible again, but I know that if I lose 1 minute, it is 1 minute that I will miss. Thanks dude
