My guess is they split from Activision because they couldn't keep up with their agreement to create content at regular intervals.
I'm fine with them selling stuff in EV. If people are willing to spend $15 on holiday armor cosmetics good for Bungie. Bungie should give discounts to people that paid for Shadowkeep and the season. It would be nice if some of that money went back into making better Destiny 2 content, but I doubt that will be the case.
The separation most likely means less content, more bad RNG, long boring requirements like the 200 ability kill for IB.

It's just simply that it wasn't as profitable as expected initially or with each yearly release... Activsion pulled the plug earlier than expected as was their right to do so. They terminated the agreement ahead of schedule and so Bungie had to buy the publishing rights back So yes they have much less finance for future development but there are quick wins the community would approve of that they are not taking. I think Luke Smith is quite a stubborn person...

The probability is the split was because bungies main priority is the new non destiny game, destiny 2 will have 5 years of SK style dlcs n seasons, this won't bring in big money, or new players, so Activision dipped out. Bungie are using it to keep the studio afloat until the new game drops. I'd guess the destiny franchise ends in 2024, if not before.

It was simply because it wasn't profitable for Activsion. Initially and with each subsequent yearly release

Sad thing if Bungie drop the prices on items just a little bit they would more profit

I so agree. I'm not gonna lie I can be reckless with Eververse. I've probably spent a good $100 on silver since Shadowkeep dropped. But when Festival of the Lost started I had this realization that I'm spending way more than I feel I am getting in value lately, and I've since stopped. I'd love the broom sparrow... But I just bought the Jotuneer sparrow and I just can't justify the cost anymore. If I got 50% off for being a season pass member I'd probably end up spending more than I have now.

I can see the money being funneled into other games they are working on.

I kinda like that idea of players that purchase expansions and pass getting discounts in the EV store, here’s hoping bungie adopt that.
