Here as always. Feedback only works when it’s a mix of positive and negative. When it’s always positive or always negative it is USELESS when it come to helping someone correct their actions. It may FEEL good to the person reflexively defending their favorite game, or trying to inflict pain on someone their mad at. But it’s useless as a guide for improvement. Same with making unreasonable demands for the money we are paying, that fail to acknowledge Bungie’s right and need to make money. Gamers may want to live in a fantasy world where games aren’t commercial products, but the real world doesn’t care. When these companies stop making money, these games go away...and the money goes somewhere else where it can get a better return for the investment. Unless you want to work for free, don’t expect someone else to.

If they use an honorable business model of creating and selling a product then if it’s a good product they make more than enough selling the game (have you seen the sales numbers for the game and expansion?). It’s when they start engaging in dishonest and consumer exploiting practices that their customers talk about it. That’s when they get criticized for it.

  • It’s the same situation here. The complaining about EV it not stops when people can get everything in it without having to pay for stuff. And the moment Bungie makes changes where thing now have to be bought, the complaining starts up again. Cosmetics aren’t loot. Or this community wouldn’t have rejected vanilla Destiny 2 they way it did. They only become “loot” ehen people see something they want but can’t have.

If they weren’t removing content from the game to put in the store and it was just fun cosmetics that’s fine. People have been giving negative feedback about the Eververse store the entire life of D2. Remember when Bungie got caught throttling XP so players couldn’t earn loot boxes as fast and would be encouraged to buy them so they wouldn’t miss out on limited time content? Then Bungie removed the new cosmetic content and instead rewarded players with loot boxes full of the same stuff they said was limited?

Especially when most people currently playing this game aren’t even paying that $60. The only way that store goes away is if Bungie starts charging a subscription. Pick your poison.

  • No. They can't.....because they've made purchasing the content OPTIONAL. I just got finish talking to a poster complaining about how he's tired of getting the same old weapons.... ...and when you look at his game history, its very clear that he's continuing to play...and he's not playing any of the Year 3 content, because he probably hasn't bought it. But he continues to play. Continues to take up space on servers...and consume in-game resources. While he's probably not---at the moment---supporting the game financially, Eververse micros allows someone like me to step in, and pick up part of HIS tab for the game. But you have to give ME something for my money. I'm not going to just throw my money away on something that everyone else can get just by playing the game. That's not how this works.

You know I’m intelligent and not bullied by blocks of text. You’re right that’s not how this works.

  • THAT GAME NO LONGER EXISTS. That game DIED...THAT PARADIGM DIED....when Bungie lost Activision’s money for development, lost 400 employees in the guise of Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios, gave away two years of content away for free, and allowed for purchasing content A LA CARTE. All those moves cost Bungie money, and made the money from the sale of content LESS RELIABLE. So the game has shifted away from emphasizing the monetization of content to the monetization of VANITY ITEMS. So unless everyone wants to pay more for content and pay for it more frequently, then this is the reality going forward. Sixty dollars a year simply doesn’t cover the level of service we are being given. Period.

  • Yes they do. They just won’t say it out loud. Stop listening to what they are saying and watch what they are DOING. Just like with Thorn in D1. All the Crucible players whined about it killing too quickly. Only two people—-Datto and Patrick Casey —-/we’re honest in saying that they just didn’t consider DoT to be a legitimate play mechanic. But no matter what Bungie did to slow the TTK, the complaining just kept going. Until a Bungie finally just gave in, and just BROKE Mark of the Destroyer so you could simply IGNORE the burn. Then—as if by magic—the complaining stopped.

I don’t understand why you think that story is about players telling Bungie they want them to work for free.

  • The issue is that you have a segment of the community that feels their money entitles them to everything made for the game....and when you listen closely...some of them actually own up to it. They argue “complete game” and “locked behind paywall”, with an occasional “cut content” thrown in. Most people just don’t argue that because they know on a gut level that it’s a extremely difficult position to defend. So the argue from one that is—superficially—easier to defend and more sympathetic. Like Thorn, this complaining will only go away when Bungie breaks EV like they did last year and you can basically have the store for free.

  • Missed the point completely. As one of my favorite pop psychologists liked to say, “There is the **topic** and then there is the **issue** (in any conflict)”. The topic is what someone claims the disagreement is actually about, and the issue is what it’s REALLY about. And those two things were different. The topic about Eververse is the baseles claim that it’s taking away from the game it that Bungie puts more resources into Eververse than the game. Even the most cursory examination of the game shows that doesn’t pass the laugh-out-loud test.

  • No my analogy is the point. How much complaining did you hear about EV last year when they were basically giving everything away?? When you could get everything with either gameplay or bright dust? Hint: NONE. This -blam!- only starts up whenever the store starts to behave like a real store that incentivizes people actually buying stuff.

  • Only most of what gets offered up here as “feedback” are simply insults from angry, greedy children.

  •
Only most of what gets offered up here as “feedback” are simply insults from angry, greedy children.
That is simply not true, and even if it were it’s still valuable. Even the angriest and most insulting say what they don’t like and that’s more information about your customers than silence. It’s clear Bungie’s strength isn’t knowing what their game is and who their customers actually are, so they are lucky to get the feedback.
