Bungie just sneakily added the option to buy Season Pass tiers
In case you didn't notice, this recent update now allows you to buy tiers of the Season Pass for real world cash. It's obvious Bungie wants to keep a low profile on this, because there's no word of it in the patch notes. And why would there be, when less than ONE MONTH into the new season you can buy in-game advantages. Also good on you Bungie for breaking your own word, because Luke Smith had this to say on the topic:
"Season of the Undying runs for 10 weeks, and we’re currently thinking of enabling this somewhere in the last 2–4 weeks of the Season. We know that sometimes life gets in the way, and you just want to get the last few rewards before the season ends and everything resets."
How generous of you to provide people with less time to play a way to catch up by getting high-end materials and literal exotic engrams... for a fee. I don't wanna hear any argument from anyone here that this is even borderline acceptable, you should never be able to buy EXOTIC ENGRAMS and ultra rare end-game materials for money, period. And given that it takes 100+ hours to get to the end of the Season Pass rewards, tons of people who can't no-life a game will be very tempted to shell out cash for maybe one more exotic, or one more Ascendant Shard... because that's how you've designed it. You know, on top of the Free-to-Play Eververse store full of microtransactions, and the Lootboxes (with a separate loot pool, of course) and oh yeah, the Season Passes/Shadowkeep also cost money, because D2 isn't *truly* F2P.
It's becoming increasingly obvious that in terms of monetization, Activision was never the problem. Bungie, your greed is showing more than ever.
EDIT: I'm not gonna bother with some of the non-arguments in here (like "it's optional"), but do you really think they will stop here if no one says anything? Do you REALLY think they're not gonna go further after testing the waters, adding even more ways to buy gameplay-affecting stuff? You're delusional if you think so, but please enjoy them eventually adding true P2W elements, because it's not like they're gonna stop out of conscience and goodwill.

Who honestly cares dude, it’s a game and most of it is cosmetic not even remotely an advantage, the option is there for people who don’t have time to grind out the levels and just want to spend money. Why also why do you care so much not like their spending your money. it’s their money they can do what they want with it

But that's the point there are certain things that I missed out during season 1of d2. Does it suck yea but oh well that's just the way it is. As someone who seen alot microtransactions in video games for the love of god dont do it. You already have eververse and the silver transactions. I would rather for you throw the cosmetic stuff in to that lot rather for people to buy packages. This will literally kill the game as most of the community is already on odds ends with each other.

I think a lot of people are missing the point here. If enough people buy the levels then they will increase the grind next season/pass to incentivise more people to spend money. This is an issue that we need to keep an eye on for the next pass. I have just seen this happen on Division 2 with their apparel events. The first event they were generous with the keys acquired per level. Over time this reduced until it was extremely rare. Ubisoft were then caught out and said “oh it was just a bug” and had to adjust the drop rates. (They saw people were not purchasing keys for real money so tried a scummy move).

We are still committed to [url=https://www.bungie.net/en-US/Explore/Detail/News/48097]the plan[/url] for purchasing Season Ranks late in the seasons we communicated previously. We have a server side change going out now that will disable these purchases until later in the season.

Bungie made sure they removed a lot of options to acquire items from Eververse, and create new items as well for silver but is using the manpower working on another game we are literally not paying for as an excuse on why they didn't have enough manpower to update things in this game like the vendors. This is ...backwords.

We live in a time where game corporations like Bethesda, EA, Ubisoft and Activision/Blizzard screw everybody over. No wonder Bungie is flying under the radar, when other so bluntly just grab for cash with complete disregard for quality and ethics.

Money is what helps companies pay for their staff if that’s gone then what’s the point of working for nothing to earn. 3 RepliesI think 140 upvotes after two days, especially given the circumstances, kind of shows that the huge majority of people don't think this is pay to win. I don't... I hope seeing it this way doesn't crap up the game or the studio for you, really. If anything it means to me that these rewards will really be gone after the season ends, which is sad, but I'm pretty confident that even with my sometimes sparse play time numbers I'll be able to hit the season cap.. and if not, well maybe I'll spend a few bucks for that CLOAK BABY. Rick and Morty season 4 is almost out, also. Life is good.

Bungie should just change the name to Garbo . Management is Garbage led with the big rework no one wanted with the launch of D2 . Ignored players for a year and a half before starting to listen and rework in game stuff back to original D1 style . By then it was to late bled off millions of players . Tripled down on eververse because Fortnite was selling billions in skins . Though Bungies fail Management to dumb to realize , Fortnite is filled with stupid kids who have mommy and daddy’s money . Destiny is filled with veteran gamers who actually have to earn their money and no better than to pay 10-15$ for Pixels ! Keep your skins you turd sniffers ! You want my money ! I want Strikes ! PvP maps ! Missions ! You want to sell me a strike to add to my play list ! I got 10$ for that ! A couple new PvP maps $10 here . For something to change my one gun to look a little different lmao I have a brain ! And you don’t have my money !

Every game that has a season pass tier system allows people to purchase individual tiers, won’t be surprised at all when next season they offer a premium pass that includes 25 tiers. Free money why leave it on the table give streamer and the people with disposable income bragging rights by completing it in 3 minutes of season opening

1 ReplyBuying the season pass in general is technically “buying an exotic”. I really can’t see the big issue. The only time this will ever matter or effect you is in Crucible, and let’s be honest, if people are “paying to buy exotics”, they’re still not going to do well in the Crucible just because of one slight armor change.

2 Replies1. Season 9 ends December 10th. So the season only has 6 more weeks....and we have a major US holiday where people will be travelling coming up. 2. Most regular player have already either maxed out their books...or are close to it. I'm currently at 110 right now. 3. Every exotic I got from that book was a duplicate of one I already had...and they were all weapons. Every armor piece had terrible stat rolls, and I soon discarded them for in-game drops that had better stats. So the notion that Bungie is "Selling Power" is pretty laughable. What they are doing is providing a catch-up mechanic for a casual players in order to keep them attached and involved in the game. Which ultimately works to the benefit of more dedicated players. Especially in matchmade content, as the funnel is filled on PVE with more players....and filled with WEAKER pleyers in PVP. I grinded from 0 to Fabled in a single MORNING last weekend in Comp. Got both my Recluse and the Glory points needed for Randy's Throwing Knife in a single play session.

4 RepliesThis isn't P2W. I'm pretty sure i got 2-3 exotic engrams just from a few hours of playtime on one character alone tonight. Exotics drop in place of prime engrams pretty frequently. And while you say 100+ hours to reach SP 100+, yeah, that's true, but you paid for that content anyway. These people paid for the content and then they're paying to catch up. If you envy them, I think you're out of your mind. I can see your point about being afraid about P2W though. People already P2W outside of the game in the form of recoveries and carries. People use YouTube and Reddit for exotic weapon guides. Does that make them deserve those weapons any less than the people that figure out them first?
