Raids scare me

I’m a year 1 destiny 1 veteran. When bungie re released all the raids in the first game, I was constantly playing through them every week. Even with all my characters being maxed out. The thing is, destiny 2 raids scare me. I watch tons of raid guides 4-5 times for each raid. I mean my memory have gotten worse over the years. But I just feel that all these new mechanics, make the raids needlessly complicated. Now I know a significant amount of guardians enjoy the raids in this state. And I would too, but the issue is, I’m a learn while I play kind of person. These LFG raid posts always demand so much from someone who wants to dabble in the end game. I’ve only completed 2 raids in d2, which compared to doing all the raid in the first game, I think it’s pretty lack luster. These mechanics, even watching videos on how to do them makes it hard for me to breathe. But I want this post to kinda be an open discussion on how you all feel about the raids in d2. I’m open to any and all criticism that’s within reason.

Yeah that’s the reason I haven’t had done any raids in d2. Well that and the lacking loot. In D1 I would raid every weekend chasing things like fatebringer.

  • Find a good clan that's willing to teach you. Like anything new the raids can be tricky at first but are easily learned with the right teacher. Biggest advice I can give you is dont be scared because at the end of the day, it's just a game.

  • Honestly the only reason they scare me is that I don’t have a group to play with. A lot of my friends left early on and I’ve just been kind of a solo player since, which happened in D1 too. The only difference between this and D1 is that I used to just throw together rag tag teams of Raiders and just do it but for some reason I haven’t been able to get one to work in D2.

  • D2 raids are pretty easy once you get the mechanics down. I can understand when an LFG post says "know what to do". They might not have long to play, and they want to get the raid done quickly. What I don't get is when they require that you have completions. "Like dude, your Scourge emblem says 78 completions, but you've probably only been map defender."

    • Find a helpful and friendly clan. They can help you through raids and teach them to you in a healthier environment. Lfg is toxic and you'll get kwtd or get kicked post. You can also find a Sherpa on Reddit. You have options to find ways to do raids without being forced into a stressful situation. I was terrified of raids, but my clan got me through it and was very encouraging. I have now managed to complete all of them except the new one thanks to them and have even helped new members do their first raids. Find a good clan dude!

    • D1 raids are much harder than d2 raids, d2 raids are very easy.

This is a myth that D1 raids were less mechanic driven. For me the best raid ever Kings Fall was the most mechanic heavy raid ever, on challenge week it was even more so. Vault had so many mechanics from shooting oracles to teleportation etc etc Most D2 raids are not long enough to be called raids hence raids lairs and the mechanics are pretty straight forward. Just my two pence.

New mechanics are needed to keep the raids feeling fresh. Sure, it’s a lot to remember but it’d get super boring without them. Most of the raids do a good job introducing mechanics that you build on until the final fight as well.

          • Wow, nostalgia really blinds a lot of you on here. Aside from Riven encounter, which no one does legit, what raid is more mechanic heavy than D1? None.

            • The raids in D2 are not more mechanic heavy than D1 raids. This is the dumbest fallacy among the hive minded idiots here on these forums. In a sea of stupid takes, D2 raids are more mechanical is the dumbest. Remember oryx? When 3 jumped on before 2 and your runner's platforms weren't there and he fell to his death? Remember how it was literally a mechanic that did damage to oryx and not actual gun damage?? Remember people shooting the wrong screen in the first fight of Wrath? Remember someone missing the shot over the back of golgoroth or dying to the orbs, and causing a wipe? If anything, raids in D2 are easier mechanically than D1 raids. The hive mind just wants to -blam!-, but it would embarass itself a lot less if it at least whined factually.

              • I know this is a bit of a cookie cutter answer and coming from someone who hasn't touched d2 raids at all, but making your own group would alleviate practically everything you've mentioned. My buddy swears by the 100.com and its sherpa service, maybe give that a shot?

                • Believe me when I tell you that the raids are way simpler than they appear. I've done 5 noob Sherpa runs and almost never have issues with my sherpees. If you ever want to give a raid a go, and you are on PS4, send me a message. Same PSN as here

                • The assumption that D2's raids are more complicated than D1's is a lie. Most leviathan raids (excluding crown) are complicated, but nothing compared to kings fall and WOTM. Even last wish is more noob friendly than both, as it's got room for newbies to do simple parts without understanding the whole encounter.

                • D1 vet as well. I'll agree they seemingly have gotten more complex lol but you got dis boi I remember taking just as much time trying to Hard Mode Oryx's ass. It's a good bit but once you do it it's hard to forget.

                • I loved every d1 raid (VoG being my least favorite and KF my fav). I haven't even bothered to touch a D2 raid. The SK raid does look sick tbh.

                • I’m writing this reply to thank everyone who has replied with different raid offers and other supportive words. Those of you who have respectfully provided rebuttals have also been appreciated. I did not make this post to be insulted nor laughed at by the chad guardians of d2. That being said, if you do find yourself replying to me post, please take into account that not everyone is the same. Obviously. I do appreciate the support and replies though. To update, I completed the first 3 encounters of GOS not terrible but my opinion still stands. You have so little room for error that if you -blam!- up once or twice you might as well wipe.

                • The raids aren’t entirely difficult, I’ll admit they may be difficult to learn depending on the person, but they’re mostly mindless. Once you get that first clear it’s all uphill. That’s what I tell anyone that I happen to Sherpa. It’s that anxiety of getting your first clear that makes it harder to keep track of what you’re supposed to do. I’ve gotten to the point where there isn’t any excess adrenaline and focus and the raids come across as easy.

                • I feel you I have raided all of d1 with friends and lfg and once I play the raid a couple times I get a hang of it. This was also true in leviathan because the mechanics weren’t horrendously complicated but ever since leviathan I have not touched the other raids (not counting leviathan raid lairs). I understand that people want people who know raids by the back of the hand but the current lfg system sucks for starting raids. My clan has offered to help though raids but at this point I feel like I have to study raids and I will just bring the team down because how d2 raids work...

                • The single thing which LOST my interest in Raids: NERFS! All that time and effort for something Bungie will always nerf. I got no time for that... It kills. Well, it is a weapon... It kills easily. Well, it is a war... Isn’t it ironic that the dead are the reason the living get weaker gear/weapons... TLDR: Bungie Sandbox Logic...

                • Right there with you. I feel the same for most of the raids. I feel that in some encounters the enemies you shoot are just distractions to make you fail the mechanics. If you are on PC, look me up and we can get some noobs together and just run to have fun and learn what to do with no pressure.

                • its really not your memory i was in the same place as you when d2 first started raid guides never helped me because they would explain the encounter and then add 50 different scenarios when it was unnecessary. ive had to be patient for sotp to find a group willing to teach and it was one of the great times i had. for crown of sorrow i recommend looking up ninjapups for his raid guide he is the prime example of what a raid guide should be straight to the point without any other bs.

                • It's because they are not fun anymore. Being so heavy mechanically and instantly wipe mechanics there isnt a lot of time and patience for teaching. As relatively easy as calus was I remember having to reteach mechanics over over...and its rough on everyone. There is no joy or fun in it a anymore. That's the long and short of it. In D1 we had normal mode to.muscle through and not brutalize new raiders or over burden sherpas.

Join a group like in 100. IO. That way you can belong to a consistent Clan or group instead of just randoms demanding their own way all the time. I would have never attempted raids without that website and the people are much cooler there in general. Just look up the 100. IO website and it's almost all Destiny 2 stuff
