I stopped playing Destiny back when The Taken King released because I was greatly annoyed that it would not be releasing as a stand alone expansion.
In preparation for getting back into Destiny with the F2P D2: New Light I decided to watch THIS massive story re-cap video. It got me pretty siked to jump back into experiencing Destiny; however, the way New Light is bringing me into the story of Destiny 2 is confusing as heck. The direction of Destiny's story, as a new Guardian, feels nonexistent after reaching the Tower.
So is it really treating all the events of Destiny 2 up until Shadowkeep as past events in which I can only experience as a form of re-telling or re-living of a past event? If so, I can't say I'm really a fan. It creates a form of disconnect with the world of Destiny for myself and my Guardian.
Man, it sure would be amazing if they could bring back all the content of Destiny 1 and allow it to carry over into the content of Destiny 2, so that players could experience all of the events of Destiny in their character's present timeline. But, absent that I would prefer to have been given the regular Destiny 2 introduction and game-play instead of the way New Light is going about it.

They’re saving you from having to play through 2 years of content before you could play Shadowkeep. See Amanda Holiday if you want to play through the old campaigns.

A sugestion: go to Amanda Holliday in the tower to replay the red war, curse of Osiris and Warmind

When are y'all going to realize that Destiny cutscenes and storylines are tantamount to fighting game fluff bs. Nobody truly cares about those stories they just want to play the fighting game. Like honestly story complainers sound like Bronys at this point. Just shhhhh

You can still play these campaigns. Don’t worry, bungies got you.

2 RepliesThe idea of new light is that players who start with new light are guardians who have been resurrected during the events of shadowkeep. Where veterans are the guardians who experienced the red war (and events that have taken place before that). Bungie is trying to go with a “you have to had been there for that” style of story. Which kinda sucks, but is interesting at the same time.

2 RepliesBungie is trying to give players more agency by having their actions actually affect the world at large rather than everything existing in some bizarre time loop where everything moves at the pace of every individual. Moving to the F2P model also means Bungie has tried to eliminate any barriers between new players and the majority of content. For example previously you'd have to play through the entire Red War campaign in order to gain access to the Tower, where you can meet the Drifter, thus have access to Gambit.
