So... wtf is Rasputin currently doing?

Given that at the end of warmind he’s all like “I will never let a threat go unseen, I am the guardian of all I survey” I would’ve expected him to actually you know, do something more than sit on his ass on mars. He’s been inactive since forsaken and we’ve had a few threats since then that would warrant the guys attention, most recently a -blam!-ing vex invasion from the black garden itself. Anyways, where is he and what is he doing?

  • I'd say he's probably watching, analyzing and waiting. Here is one of the ships that came with the darkness last time and he has a chance to study it without it coming after him. Probably has a few dozen sats in orbit getting information on it. It's 'dormant' and therefore not a threat in his eyes, but it's still giving off energy readings, and without all the other interference it wouldn't suprise me if he didn't already have it mapped out along with a few drones inside analyzing systems. Ashir was more concerned with Io and the Pyramidian and Osiris was all about Mercury and the threat there, no reason for them to respons to small threats on the moon. Maybe a full blown assault would get them moving, but otherwise they're where they need to be.

  • Warmind’s story was a complete joke and will continue to have little to no relevance in the future. The entire premise of the DLC was stupid and contradictory to everything established previously. - Rasputin was on mars when previously stated to be the warmind of EARTH, with a different warmind (likely Charlemagne) to be that of Mars. - Zavala was super hesitant to have any involvement with Rasputin even though we had defended him many times in D1 (Last Array, Omnigul, SABER 2, etc.) with him never showing any sign of aggression. - Even if Xol was the weakest of the worm gods, his power was enough to completely incapacitate us without touch or even sight in the campaign. We defeated him easily in single combat later in the campaign with none of the previously seen effects in action, I could go on but it was just a disaster, glad the story has improved since then.

    • This is what happens when we chase loot and not the story. Where's Osiris? Asher? Uldrin? The Shadowkeep story is downright disappointing but here's a bounty you can take to some magical -blam!-ing thing and get a weapon. Oh but you need to do all this other shit before you can get it. Curse of Osiris had more depth than this. Season of the bounties!

    • If it wasn’t for seasonal/holiday celebrations that even the game lore acknowledges are annual, I would be lead to believe that time only advances in new content. Meaning repeating content is not happening within the normal flow of time within the game world. And new content/events happen literally right after the previous one. Meaning even though it has been almost 2 years since Warmind story, in world it has only been weeks, if not just days since then that we are now on the moon. This would make the absence of some characters make sense in newer content. On Io during the Red War we did quite a bit with the Vex for Asher, so he’s still going through all that data. To solve the mysteries of what the Vex are doing on Io he can’t worry about what is happening elsewhere. Though he may be helping Ikora with schematics to build her Vex Portal. The Warmind is still bringing systems online, and it’s not like he’s going to blast a hole in the moon to take out the pyramid ship. If he even can destroy it. Rasputin would have been around when the ships first attacked. Anyways, that’s all I got. Of time is passing in world relative to our own, then it makes no sense.

    • Hes being stuck up: a lost cause. Zavala is done with Rasputin. And so should we. We tried communicating with him in D1, but he's a petty child wanting more from us.

      • Well during Forsaken there wasn't really anything he could do since the threat was small scale since the Scorn were only in the Tangled Shore and they never really got to being a large scale threat. They were a threat but nothing too serious, our Guadians curbed their threat fast so they weren't able to build momentum and reach a point that Rasputin would need to or consider intervening. When Uldren and the Scorn opened and got into the Dreaming City at that point Rasputin couldn't intervene even if he wanted to since the Dreaming City is in the Ascendant Realm. For the following 3 seasons Forge, Drifter, and Opulence there wasn't a single emerging threat that Rasputin would need to intervene in. In Season of the Forge everything was small scale like really small scale. He had no need to intervene in some lost forges and some Fallen breaking into a vault. For Season of the Drifter and Season of Opulence nothing happened at all there just the Drifter with a game, and Calus with a game and a problem occurring in his ship. For Shadowkeep and Season of the Undying there is definitely argument for him to intervene since not only is a major thing happening on the moon with the Hive but also the Vex are invading the Moon. But in the case of the Vex issue the Vex are invading but are being pushed back and destroyed by Guardians. They're not gaining a foothold on the Moon so they're not yet a major threat in his eyes. If the Vex were gaining purchase and building a sizable force on the Moon he'd probably then take action in order to stop them from expanding but since it's just small incursions Guardians can handle it. He also can't do anything to the Black Garden since it exists somewhere he can't reach. As to the Hive and the Pyramid... that probably warrants his action but at the same time is a good reason for him not to do anything. After all if he attacked the Pyramid who knows what would happen and since the Pyramid isn't doing anything crazy like taking off or directly attacking anything it's not something for Rasputin to immediately try and deal with. As of right now in Rasputins eyes everything going on in the system are small scale issues that Guardians can handle. And as for the Pyramid him attacking it could likely lead to worse things than him leaving it alone for now. What Rasputin is doing currently is building up his weapons, collecting information, and preparing for a fight with the Darkness. If he were to intervene in every threat that arises in the system he'd be expending his weapons and it'd slow his ability to stockpile them. It would also divert his attention since even though he's a super AI he can't easily watch every inch of the system at all times for every threat that could show up. His main thing right now is the returning Darkness and he knows that he needs every weapon he can make if he's going to fight against it. And for every weapon he uses that's one less he has to use against the Darkness. You also have to keep in mind this is a game think about what all future content would be like if Rasputin intervened in everything. Oh the Hive erected a giant keep? Rasputin glasses that entire section of the moon with his Warsats. Oh the Vex are invading the Moon? Rasputin bombards every invading force with his Warsats. That would be every future thing that happens he bombards it with Warsats.

            • He’s waiting for all Shadowkeep players to purchase every single item in eververse with silver which will result in a secret cutscene where Ana Bray goes into the Rasputin chamber, and then a chair appears. She approaches the Scarlet Throne and lifts up the seat, she then proceeds to pull her leg armor off and sit on the seat to unleash an almighty furious volcanic sh it into the toilet bowl. Rasputin eats Ana’s offering and starts to shake violently until the red particle effects in the chamber start clumping together to from a human like form. This form manifests into Luke Smith himself, he holds out his hand and reveals reskinned weapons, and ana gets on her knees and starts eating out of his palm like the vile fat sweaty swine she is. “Danke mein Führer” she says as she chows down on the recycled content our lord and Savior Suke Lmith has birthed with our money.

                      • Rasputin is currently preoccupied dropping warsats for public events. Personally, I think that we could probably utilize those warsats for protection.... but who am I to argue with Rasputin. He’s dropped several on me in the past.
