Bungie: We want you to be able to play your way. Also Bungie: Use this weapon for this. Use that weapon for that. Get these elemental kills for this. Get those elemental kills for that. Get these ability kills for this. Get those ability kills for that. This only comes from this. That only comes from that. This only works this. That only works for that. Obviously no one HAS to do anything so all you “technicality police” people don’t need to say that. This is known. You’re COMPLETELY missing the point. This is a near suffocatingly rigid game model. Progression and loot acquisition is SEVERELY hindered by not doing what is basically playing and using everything in a CLASS based game with quite a lot of character options and weapon types. Players are essentially penalized for not liking what equates to several vastly different genres and play styles. If this is to be “more RPG” as they’ve implied, they need to let people play their roles instead of playing all roles. Again, it’s unreasonable and impractical. Always has been. Always will be. The expectation can’t be that everyone play and like everything or miss out or hinder their ability to progress. That’s a TERRIBLE mentality. This game essentially encompasses several vastly different genres so that effectively doesn’t work and is a detriment to the fun factor of the game. The more options people have the better. This is entertainment. Not work or chores. I’m not learning a life lesson. I’m playing for fun.

 • Personally I think the “technicality police” people are less missing the point and more trying to strawman because they don’t actually have any good counterpoints.

 • Lack of meaningful content requires tons of micro-goals to keep people engaged. Granted, Bungie does provide lots of content, but they keep everyone doing bounties ad nauseum, especially now that they are tied directly to leveling up.
Yeah it is crazy, almost like they put in quests for everybody who use every weapon and every elemental type, and it is all voluntary if you don't want to do it. If you run solar and the bounties for the day are for void grenade kills, you can either wait for solar bounties which cater to your play style, or you can switch to void for 20 minutes and get 10 grenade kills. People demand they get to play their own way and then complain when devs put in content that caters to things they don't like. Maybe that machine gun quest is for, you know, the players who like machine guns, so that everybody gets content and rewards for their play styles...making sure everyone gets a chance to "play their own way" means that not every player is going to want to do every quest / line of content / set of bounties. If you love grenade launchers and hate machine guns, then just go do the grenade launcher quests and ignore the machine gun, instead of complaining that you feel "forced" to swap to a machine gun to complete a quest for a machine gun that you don't like using in the first place.

 • Or or or... They could have just said heavy weapon kills? Why make it a specific gun to either force you to play with it or not do it to stretch the quest further with no progress. You see where I am going with this, right? Bungie has started to turn every single thing in the game into a grindfest plus you cannot even grind as you want. How does that cater to what they advertised?
Because it would be kind of pointless if I could complete the kill requirements for something like Randy's Throwing Knife by running around with Ace of Spades equipped and getting the kill requirement that way. The logic is if you want a reward for a certain gun, you have to invest some time with that type of gun. Why should I be able to rocket launcher my way to a heavy fusion rifle? Not to mention that a lot of quest steps ARE generic and just allow for heavy / energy weapon kills, or elemental damage from any source. It is also incentive to try weapons outside of your comfort zone, which opens up new opportunities for new play styles.

 • Exactly. If they insist on utilizing these kinds of steps so much it should be kinetic, energy, heavy, and void damage, arc damage, solar damage from any source.
