Why was Light Level Advantage put in Gambit?

Gambit in my opinion functioned perfectly fine before the Shadowkeep update, more than likely because there weren't any huge pushes in light. Granted, Truth was, and still is, usually on every sweaty player's build, but there's always going to be a meta in any playlist. What I can't really wrap my head around is why level advantage is enabled. I'm sure there are people who played Destiny 2 who prefer playing Gambit to any other playlist and more than likely enjoyed last season's Gambit queue (or at least I did for the most part). I mean I'm a young guy working part time and can only play a couple of hours each day after work before I go to bed and I only can get my light up maybe 15 levels, MAYBE, each night, but I come on to see some of the people in my friends list already at 900-930 light on the first and second day of the launch, meaning there's a lot more people playing who are relatively the same light level or even higher. Light level advantage makes the game less enjoyable, because those that can't play the game hours on end, but still want to enjoy each game mode for what it is, are getting put down by players who may not be necessarily as good as them in gambit but can take extra hits and deal more damage against them, the players that may have not been able to play as much. But NOW it becomes less enjoyable because invaders that have a higher light have an advantage over everyone else on the opposing team with a lower light. And if they have a higher light than you, then, when you invade, you're essentially combating players that not only have more defense than you, but will also deal more damage to you (the player/invader with the lower light) completely trivializing the initial buff of the invader, i.e. the over shield they need to survive more than one encounter with other players. Having light level advantage disabled on all playlists allows every player from any sort of lifestyle a chance to have the same experience, even if they don't necessarily have the meta weapons. Now Iron Banner is a perfect exception because it's a special event that occurs only a few times during a season, and even then it's optional to play in that no quest step, no meta equipment forces you into a level-advantaged PvP playlist (excluding Swarm of the Raven). Gambit on the other hand is a large part of Destiny 2, giving players who play the game a lot an advantage over newer players which, in turn, will often prevent newer players from enjoying that playlist. Just to give a few examples of the drastic advantage light level confers: the recluse, which I'm sure a lot of players are using in a lot of playlists besides gambit, does somewhere around 11 damage to the body and about 19 or 20 damage to the head (I'm not 100% on those numbers) but when I shoot someone in gambit who is a higher light than me, I do around 8 damage to the body. Now that's only 3 damage difference but when you're using something like a submachine gun similar to the Recluse (900 rpm), that has considerable ramifications in regards to TTK. Same thing with Mida Multi tool that does about 54 damage to the head: did about 34 damage to people I had invaded and those that invaded my team. Not only that but if you shoot an invader when they use chaos reach, which by the way has one of the lowest defense bonuses among every other super in the game, with a Revoker to the HEAD will still leave him with a near full bar of health. And by the time you try to shoot him again he may have already cleared at least 2 other teammates with his super. And if that's not enough, now you practically have to get a direct hit with a truth rocket to do enough damage to kill an invader with a higher light than you, cause it won't be a kill shot if it's a couple of feet away from its intended target. The point is that having a lower light level than other players who are playing day in and day out, that clearly have an advantage over the player that comes home from work trying to play a few matches of what used to be their favorite playlist, that keep getting wiped by an invader that he can barely do any damage to, is no bueno. Please bungie, disable level advantages in gambit so it can be fun. I now understand that it was enabled initially, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that it shouldn't have been enabled in the first place. Light level advantage in Gambit doesn't serve any purpose but to have higher light guardians Trump opposing guardians.

  • It was enabled, you just never noticed. Is it enabled for PvE as well or something? I was never able to play gambit on my warlock because he was 100-150 levels below most players, so I would get destroyed by invaders.

Light advantage has always been enabled although its not as drastic as iron banner because im still demolishing players who are 100-150 light higher than me when i invade.
