Please allow an option to turn off the aim assist in this game. It can be there for the ones that like it and off for those of us who don't. I would much rather be able to control my aim in the crucible rather than have it trailing off on whoever just jumps in front of me while I'm shooting.
Thank you bungie

Edited by michael: 9/26/2019 9:07:15 AMYou would turn it off and turn it right back on as soon as you realize how needed it is in this game. No aim assist works in games like call of duty and rainbow six because time to kill in that game is literally the blink of an eye. You don’t need to keep your reticle on your opponent for long. But in destiny time to kill is about a second (i know optimal time to kills are lower but that is tested in a vacuum and won’t happen every time) which is a while to keep your reticle on someone and you would not be able to do that very well without aim assist. If you want to know what no aim assist is like, go play a strike or crucible match but try shooting at your teammates. Keep your reticle on them and their heads as they run, jump, slide, are far away from you etc. A controller is just not made to do that without something assisting you. The only game I can think of with longer time to kill than destiny AND little to no aim assist is halo 3 but that game is fundamentally different in a ton of ways. The biggest thing is probably that movement in that game is VERY slow and the most complicated thing you can do is single hop in the air. The strafing is slow and theres no sprint or slide, literally just jump walk and crouch. Pretty much everything in that game happens in slow motion, which makes no aim assist manageable, compared to destiny with people jumping 30 feet in the air and sliding around every corner along with the strafe speed. That along with the simple fact that Halo 3 was designed to be and is still respected as a very good game for competitive play due to its very wide skillgap, a lot of of which is associated with how hard it is to aim. Destiny is an easy game largely because of the aim assist on weapons. If you took that away you would be significantly hurting yourself. TLDR yeah aim assist is annoying when someone walks across your screen and drags your aim but when aim assist isn’t annoying it is probably credited to about 70% of every single shot you hit in both pve and pvp. Not trying to compare you to a kid but the analogy makes sense. Its like a kid wanting to run away from home because his parents didn’t get him what he wanted for christmas and is under the impression that they don’t care about him. But in reality the parents pay the bills, provide a place to live, put food on the table, do laundry and dishes, et cetera. The kid only recognizes what they do when its something he doesn’t like and therefor wants his parents out of his life.

1 ReplyRemove ALL aim assist on ALL platforms.

I could see a 'hardcore' mode (trial...?) where the game play is totally different, and AIM assist is turned off. No super, no heavy. Gun skill only (just to be clear, this mode would not be for me, but it could be for players with the more skill in the game) !
-
I really doubt you would like out come. In older games like cod or even d1 characters moved more slowly. You would get out strafed constantly.
-
My preference? Keep the Aim Slowdown, remove the Aim Drag and bullet magnet. Add FoV settings as a bonus.
-
You would turn it off then turn it right back on again lol. We need these settings: -Adjust aim assist strength (0/100 = off) -Adjust aim assist window size -Adjust vertical/horizontal sensitivity separately -Adjust ads sensitivity (normal + sniper) -Adjust sensitivity acceleration
-
Yes this is such an annoying thing to happen, especially if ur sniping, have that shit happen here and there and its irritating to no end
-
1 ReplyConsole kinda needs at least a small amount of aim assist or bullet magnetism. However, the whole "dragging my gun across my screen because some dude jumped in front of my target" thing needs to go.
-
Tone it down to d1 levels. And sticky aim is infuriating to me. Way too sticky.

If you just don't like weapons to be sticky when aiming, then use weapons/sights that provide less stickiness.

Edited by Pord: 9/25/2019 11:26:20 PMI believe what you’re thinking of is sticky aim not aim assist
-
You're talking about aim "stickiness". Aim assist is a different thing.
-
You're an absolute idiot if you think you don't need aim assist on console/with a controller. Doesn't matter how good you are or how much you practice, removing aa on a controller will be a shit show and you will lose to people with AA turned on 100% of the time.
-
Do it so I can melt people with it turned off!

2 RepliesPlay fallout 4 then tell us you want aim assist turned off
-
As a siege player, yes, turn it off.
-
7 RepliesYes please. I would love to see games where guardians are just spraying wildly because they don't realize how important aim assist is on console. I predict It will last one week. Then it will just be a pointless toggle that no one uses seriously.
-
5 RepliesThe amount of times AA has fkd me in PVP isn't even funny.

Edited by TJ_Dot: 9/25/2019 4:57:43 PMYou realize you're asking for the ability to disable your ability to aim at anything accurately right? If the problem is the aim drift from moving targets, just ask that.
I would much rather be able to control my aim in the crucible rather than have it trailing off on whoever just jumps in front of me while I'm shooting.
Fix the problem, not just excuse yourself from it, that helps no one but yourself (until you get more than you bargained for)
-
4 RepliesI guarantee you, you'd turn it straight back on after trying with it off.
-
18 RepliesI wish they would go ahead and do this just so that this stupid narrative that AA is more of a burden than a help can die. Do what you want, but I promise you your performance and stats will TANK without AA. Should be fun for us to all watch!
-
Have you ever played the division with no aim assist. The fastest ive regret doing something.

7 RepliesWhat the hell is aim assist?

Edited by Demon_XXVII: 9/25/2019 3:19:17 PMConsole Aim Assist needs a ‘imminent threat’ coding The opponent in front of you that you’re shooting at (80% dead) is far more important to the reticle, than the opponent that’s doing a backflip behind them (avoiding someone else’s incoming fire) & whom had no idea you were there!
-
I get how AA can sometimes be annoying on console. But trust me, you don't want it turned off. Even on PC, AA exists to some small degree. In gameplay, especially in menus, hell, Windows has "aim assist" so your cursor won't accidentally fly way the hell away from what you're trying to click on. And you can turn it off and it makes it feel like your cursor is just sliding on ice. You don't want it turned off. I don't know who keeps spreading misinformation that a console shooter would be even slightly enjoyable without AA but it's not true.
