What actually is matchmaking in this game?
Why when i load in a game of QP, am i facing 6 unbrokens (not even in a stack) and my team is full of dads who run round with A Breakneck, Jotunn, and a hammerhead? Why am i forced to essentially 1v6 the game? Why when i'm playing gambit do i get matched against 4 stacks and Solos all running MT, Recluse, and truth/hammerhead? Why do my team find it more enjoyable to be licking the walls of the bank and shooting there names in the ground with their Assault Rifle's then actually playing the objective of the game?
Im honestly interested in how matchmaking works because id like to get a better understanding of my team mates in 9/10 games are either 50 year old men running into walls, or a 6 year old picking up the controller or playing mouse and keyboard for the first time?

What is matchmaking in this game you ask?! It's a roll of the dice my friend...a game of Russian roulette! It's blindly signing a contract with bang bros. Who does the banging that's for no one to know! It's hunting a lion with a tank that shoots high fives. It's throwing a football like uncle Ricco but the mountain only gets further away. It's the sound of children's laughter and a widows tears....matchmaking on destiny is more or a mystery than what awaits us after death....

4 RepliesIf you're a decent player, playing solo, the matchmaking seems to screw you over. It gives you pretty bad teammates and the enemy is given decent players.

I'm not even good, I just use common sense, I'd say I'm a tiny bit about average, yet any form of PvP, even gambit, I get the strike runners who are just ARs, other team get Korean unbrokens with 17000 ping and 17000 elo. It's not cbmm, it's not sbmm, it feels like forced losses. I played banner yday, started with 9 players, team of 3, team of 3, 3 solos. It out the 2 X3 on the same team n started 6v3, like wtf

In fact you’re could look at my recent iron banner games. I played a team of 5-6 all rocking NF, dust rock, and ward cliff on hunters with stompee and they all had unbroken titles on. I wash playing with my friends and we had 5 players I think. Well we destroyed that team. None of them went positive. Lol. Its just a title. Doesn’t mean they are good. We played them twice on sept 22 won both games.

2 RepliesBecause, for the most part, matchmaking assigns who wins. (Not officially of course, but thats how it works) Its 'trying' for 50/50 won loss, but people who rage quit the match when they START losing screw all that up. There are a few sure ways to get slotted for loss NEXT game; rage quit, mercy your opponents, mess with network connection. There are a few sure ways to Lose THIS match; NOT TAKE ZONES, Give up, Bump into walls, Not try, Rage Quit, not know the maps, go in under light 690 (ish)... Funny thing is, chances are a heavily one sided match at start will flop after a rage quitting spree... There are a few ways to win even though the matchmaking figured you would lose that game; play better than you usually do, fight tooth and nail for every zone, fight up to the last minute EVERY TIME. I have had a few 10 game + winning streaks in IB and done pretty well, and I'm just a Dad.

Because it really is 50/50 percent win/loss ratio matchmaking. Crucible is rigged.

Ain't it fun? I welcome difficult opposition, but playing alongside utter twigs who are about useful as a chocolate teapot does get very tiresome very quickly. Of course, they eventually leave as well, forcing you to literally play 2-3-4v6. Meanwhile, 50/50 games (which should be, or at least close to, doable most times) are really good fun. Go figure, eh.

First it considers the players near you, then it tries to mix the skill levels. It's just bad luck I believe, but i feel like qp now has just two kinds of matches, you stomp or you get stomped, no middle ground and it gets to you quickly.

2 RepliesFrom the information bungie has given us, the matchmaking is mostly connection based in QP, but there are also a lot of other factors going into account. People have complained about getting stomped by higher tier players since early destiny 1, and when SBMM was put into place everybody complained because of laggy lobbies, and the fact that anyone who wasn't average/below average had to wait like 3 hours to find a match. In the end, by compiling my knowledge of the game by what I've played and using assumptions formed from statements made by bungie, their middleground with this was that they give us cbmm in quickplay and then an algorithm decides whether it wants you to lose, win, or have a mostly even match. It gives everyone an opportunity to stomp, but because of that some people have to get stomped, and then there is also a good portion of matches that (at least the game thinks) should be even. My guess is that this was done to keep crucible players in the crucible, but at the same time it sometimes feels like there are a few too many of the stomp/get stomped scenarios and not enough of the even matches.
