Title says it all. There's really no reason as to why they won't let us do this. You can already do it if you go to your shader collect and preview a shader. You can clearly see the gun can change color. Good gun example to visually see it is Jade rabbit or ace. (Haven't tried other guns yet and not sure if ornaments can apply with shaders either.)
Edit: yes there are some ornaments that work with shaders. Jade Rabbits pink ornament is one.

Edited by holiidayseason: 9/25/2019 3:15:17 AMEdit 2: iv been see that people are saying it won't happen due to ornaments being just recolors. Thing with that is not all ornaments are just a simple recolors. For example crimson ornaments, vigilance wing, Heck even ace of spades ornament has a cool glow to it that I would love to change. So far I think bungie has been making ornaments feel more unique rather than change color. it sucks when there's a cool looking ornament but its matched with paint that won't look right with your character or you just don't like. Again Personally, It would drive me to get every ornament possible and experiment with every shader. There might be ornaments out that you think looks hideous now, but could be fixed with just a color change ( talking about you Jade jester ornament)

7 RepliesHahaha yeah if only ornaments didn't exist
but hey ornaments fund more exotic quests so they're welcome over here
-
Previewing shaders shows the shader in whatever exotic primary you have equipped. So I don’t know why this isn’t a feature.
-
3 RepliesIt would be nice but bungie is to money hungry to do that. They rather shove eververes “or however you spell her name” down our throats till we buy everything
-
This^ You can put shaders on ornamented exotic armor.... But not weapons?...
-
9 RepliesMost the ornaments are just slight colour variations. How's bungie supposed to get money and be lazy at the same time if they allowed you to have shaders on exotics?
-
another good idea , another one ignored by bungie because laziness, greed and eververse skins
-
It has already been noted, but I think the focus is on ornaments for exo's, unfortunately. I am not totally against that, but I think those could co-exist.
-
6 RepliesIt will never happen because it would interfere with selling ornaments.
-
My name is Wolverine and I support this message.
-
LMAO. That would be a free option.
-
It’d be nice, but I doubt Bungie will do that anytime soon.
-
Agreed! You can change the shader on exotic armor, there are plenty of ornaments for those. Most ornaments change the physical appearance of the exotic. I dont see the issue
-
1 ReplyDefeats the purpose for skins which cost silver. Aka never gonna happen. I’m okay with it too as it’s an exotic weapon so it’s not on your character all the time and there are cool weapon skins as well if you don’t like the original.
-
Yes please
-
Cease and desist at once! I'm legally obligated to defend Tess and her business; of which you are infringing upon. By suggesting such an absurd notion, you are theoretically stealing food from her mouth! How could you be so monstrous!?
-
Shaders would be nice. Ability to add mods would be better...
-
We also need custom/editing shaders.

Edited by PROCK7: 9/24/2019 6:56:33 PMI was deleting shaders to get bright dust before the new expansion. I kept colors I liked so I would check to see if it’s good to me. As I was doing so, I noticed my exotic armor and exotic primary would change color. So if bungje can change the exotic armor and we can change the exotic weapon in preview then why not make it permanent?? Now not all weapons changed. I used outbreak prime and bad juju which looked nice with some colors but lumina didn’t change. Edit: If we are being practical, Bungie won’t let us change the color of weapons because they want people to buy the different skins for weapons.

-
I mean ornaments are basically physical shaders so I don’t see why not
-
5 RepliesThey would sell less ornaments that way so probably not happening
-
Yes!!
-
8 RepliesI think the point of no shaders is to distinguish it on the battlefield so you know what weapon your enemy has.
-
1 ReplyConsidering the majority of exotic weapon ornaments alter the model of the weapon and/or add effects to it, I doubt shader functionality would heavily influence the ornament market. I look at the Menagerie weapon ornaments as an example. Even though you can apply shaders to the weapons, the ornaments are still valuable because they alter the model which shaders can't do. Even ornaments like the ones for the standard Gambit weapons are valuable because they change the texturing of the weapon model to influence appearance. Not only that, but the option to apply shaders possibly could even increase sales for ornaments since players won't be locked into that specific colour scheme, therefor players would weigh the value more on the texturing/model rather than consider the colour as a negative/positive. I'd probably buy the Truth ornament if it wasn't locked to red/black.

13 RepliesWill not happen.....Bungie can't sell ornaments if you can put a shader on them.
