Hard to say. The Drifter is well known to be a liar. Many things he says can be simply made up to put on a show. For example, one of his phrases before the start of a Gambit match is:
"Yeah, I was at Twilight Gap. My grandma, too. Who wasn't? Shoot some Fallen!"
However, we know that he left the Earth at the dawn of the City Age:
I had a crew once. My best friends. Which isn't saying much, trust me. They're all dead now. Almost to a man. So what does that mean for all you lil' Guardians out there who are my new best friends? Don't think about that one too hard. Anyway, my crew, or a little subset of it, we leave the system together. Dawn of the City Age at the time. We were looking for somethin' greater than Light. 'Cuz we had seen that Light can be the cause of… so much strife.
(source: https://www.destinypedia.com/Ancient_Apocalypse_Armor_(Warlock)) The Dawn of the City Age (Early City Age) is when the Battle of the Six Fronts occurred, while instead, the battle of Twilight-Gap occured in the mid-City Age. By his own words, at that time the Drifter should have already left our Sol System. So, who knows? Maybe it's true, maybe not. But I don't see how this could become something relevant in the future lore. I may be wrong, tho.

 • We come and go from the planet all the time. He could have been marroned on that rock then fixed up his ship and had made it back by the time the battle happened. The rest from here is just me ranting: sorry. Besides if your immortal, time would begin lose it's weight and meaning, inevitably giving way to insanity. The oldest Lightbearers should be highly eccentric or be kinda crazy. Imagine the way an immortal measures their time, we are finite so hours, days are important but to some one who doesn't need to worry about how long they have they'd lose their grip on it. Not to mention we don't know if the powers of Light also effect cognitive ability, the human mind is finite if it was possible to live long enough you would forget a lot of things. It would be difficult just to recall the Last 50 years of existing if it where possible. And the longer you existed in a life in which you can't die but still experience pain and hunger, even starving to death and being resurrected hungry, that would futher screw with your cognitive processes. I believe he's a liar and a survivalist, but I think he's been alive so long and experienced so much suffering that his lies are a coping mechanism, he's so old and been through so much that he can't recall the truth any more, all he has is a will to live, his whit, and instincts. The Drifter is my favorite character for all those reasons, he's not a perfect chivalrous knight like Zavala, he's just a dude with a ghost.

If you mean something else, I'm sorry, I didn't catch it =/
The rest from here is just me ranting: sorry.
No problem, really. Go for it 👍
Besides if your immortal, time would begin lose it's weight and meaning, inevitably giving way to insanity. The oldest Lightbearers should be highly eccentric or be kinda crazy. However, the Drifter has been a liar since his first years as Lightbearer. For example, the very fact that he hid his Light when he reached that old village during the Dark Age, lying about his small miracles, the fact that he always lied about his name ecc. He probably uses lies as a sort of defence mechanism, but this doesn't mean that he is not a liar simply by nature. For the rest about him, I agree with you: he is a very interesting character and I hope that Bungie is not going to screw him up.

 • <He wasn't on the ice planet at the time of the City Age. He was on it shortly before the Red War began.>
