I have the perfect perspective here. I played very little D1 PVP, but decided to make a change in D2 and learn to be a good PVP player. Not great, but good. Here’s the thing, over the past few months I have played dozens of hours of PvP. And I find only one thing to be consistent. That it can and will never be. Check this out, I loaded into a match with roughly the same people twine in a row and Destiny crucible was made clear to me in a matter of 20 minutes. 1st game I popped 2 supers, both we’re eliminated, by blade barrage, Slam. I had what I consider an average match. I was kind of trade for trade. We lost 125/111. Pretty close match. My KAD was 1.29 2nd game- same opponent. Neither of my supers were nixed by other supers. I got 9 super kills that match. Twice I got in close and procked my recluse perk and mowed down a few in a row. I also got a handful of last shots on players that others on my team had lowered significantly. End result we won 125/87. My KAD is 3.79 What’s the lesson?? Here it is. Even with the same players in back to back games 100s of split second circumstances changed the outcome greatly. Will you get dump trucked by a better team? Of course. Will you be the dump truck sometimes? Of course. Overall the crucible is balanced for your skill level. If you are slightly above average like I am you will win a tad more than half of your games and have a KAD of 1.2-2.0 most games. If you are bad your numbers will Mostly he bad. And so on. Stop complaining about the crucible. The meta changes every so often and the experience evolves. It’s all you can ask for. Bc it is impossible for it to be truly balanced.

  • Bungie has set up crucible matching algorithm to establish a 50/50 win rate for pretty much everybody. Unless you are god-tier and only run on a celestial 6 stack, your win rate will fall somewhere in the 45-55% level. I’ve run solo and have a career sub .5 kda and I’ve got a 52% win rate. Win rate has zero to do with skill.

  • I’d agree with that. However I think most people’s real issue isn’t with wins as much as they being matched with equal competition. Players want to feel like they have a chance to be better than their opponents as least as much as the reverse happens.

  • I completely agree with that. The way Bungie has it set up is the least fair matchmaking can be. The matchmaking does its best to make sure you lose at times and ensure you win at times. If the algorithm determines you need to lose, you will get matched with a team that you have little chance of beating. Which is why they insist on using the idiotic “rank” system to match you - because there is a huge range of talent in each rank (admittedly, less so the higher you get in comp and to a smaller extent in QP) for the matching system to work. If they actually did their best to match based on recent performance (not like last 3 hours recent, but last few months) and kd and ignore rank, you’d still have a roughly 50/50 w/L, but the higher skilled people would skew higher (like currently), but you wouldn’t have teams going on 6,7,8 win or lose streaks, you wouldn’t have nearly the amount of stomps (either way) and all games would be more competitive. But they don’t want competitive games. They want players to go on streaks because of how they set up pinnacle rewards in addition they want to mimic the sensation/emotions of gambling. They want the highs and the adrenaline-inducing lows which is what actually drives players to keep playing - not the wins. They want to manipulate players to play longer than they plan.

  • Yeah figured I would try to catch some eyeballs. Bottom line is so many variables can dictate how well you do in a match. Which is why fair balancing is impossible. You can play people equal to you in skill and still get stomped or do the stomping. Maybe your team was positioned for power ammo more often, again so many things.
