Bungie, You Say This is An Open World...

Yet it seems we are on one linear story path... There is so much to explore in Destiny, but right now it feels like it’s always the same enemies being explored. Savathûn, Hive, Vex (tho the Vex are my favorite), Taken (🙄). I get that they’re the big bad, but can we take a break from all that? I wanna know more about the Collapse, I want to investigate the town where the Scourge of the Past raid takes place. I wanna go back to the Old Tower and say hi to TR3V0R (WITHOUT A TIMER). I wanna know more about Failsafe on Nessus, more about Rasputin and Anna Bray. I was not completely satisfied with the whole Dredgen and Drifter story. Although, I was left with some questions. Does Mara Sov, the Queen know who the Drifter is? What is his purpose? What did the Emissary of the Nine do? I wanna know more about Xûr. I wanna know more about The Fallen, The Cabal and the Leviathan. Edit: I’m willing to give up Gambit and Gambit Prime for more planets and maybe increasing the world size. Yeah sure, I could go read the lore tabs... no, that’s not as engaging as experiencing it all. You say this is an open world, yet it feels like we’re stuck fighting the same enemies, on a linear path to the big baddie. Which isn’t bad, but disappointing. So much to explore in Destiny yet we don’t get to
Go all the way over there.
and I wish we had the freedom to explore and kick alien ass.

  • It's an open world. Look at all the open stories you have questions about. Maybe they're open for your imagination. What is an open world anyway?

    • Nope. D2 is now the new Warframe. Just slap that new content on with tape and constantly make it about a darker threat until we just end up fighting a black void and punch it to death. Also abandon all previous content and activities so that there is NO incentive to play them once you exceed their max Power level. GoTY 2019.

D2 is just a re-skin of D1. That’s why all the enemies and places are pretty much the same. Example: Nessus is a re-skinned Venus. The Taken are a re-skin of every enemy race. D2 is an improvement in a lot of ways but Bungie hasn’t done very much lately that is original. Exception: Dreaming City is/was pretty cool but no new enemies. Shadowkeep = D1 Moon re-skin.

      • Can you imagine the Leviathan as a patrol able area like other planets? With public events, Adventures, and missions?

        • Bungie is online open world, doesn’t mean it’s an MMO, or evolving story. It means that you can coop with 2 other players to play a story, and then up to 5players to run a 15min long strike. It also means you can be in an instance with a maximum of 11 other players. Regarding the story. Please understand that it’s not the same people at bungie writing its story. You can’t buy a rolls with what you pay for a Dacia.

          • It would be so cool if the world were as open as elder scrolls skyrim and that lost sectors would be as vast and interesting as the caves and various places to explore in skyrim with good loot for killing the bosses and finding hidden treasures. That won't happen though. It would be a solo pve players wet dream.

            • Just letting you know even if they did remove gambit or gambit prime from the game it would not decrease the amount of storage the game uses to let them add more content. It would be too much if a struggle for bungie after months of patches and content updates to the games code that removing that code for gambit that the updated code was built on could cause the game to just break or get 1,000 different kind of errors or bugs. At most they would just turn it off like they are doing with the upcoming seasons. They are just turning them off permanently making them not accessible, not removing them from the games code. So you don’t need them to remove gambit to add new planets, you would just need to do something to motivate them to actually do it because apparently content is just to hard to make and its easier to just make smaller content and then turn it off then rinse and repeat..... idk.

That means making content, and that is hard according to Luke Smith. Plenty of reskinned stuff coming soon- and plenty of loot at Eververse and in the all new battlepass.

Has it ever been an open world though? If I run to a hill overlooking most of the planet, I die. Every planetary area is a tiny portion of the planet itself that we're 'allowed' to play in. This entire game is on rails in every way.

                          • They said this is an open world? Because that’s just not true. Every environment, patrol zone, story, strike, or raid is on a linear path. I don’t care how many little holes there are to crawl down, the game is too limited in scope to be called “open world”. And you’re not happy with having 1% of the story in-game and the other 99% hiding in lore tabs? What’s wrong with you? I bought this game to read the story, not play it. Obviously.

                          • I just want a Library in the Tower. An easy-to-access resource for mundane lore like detailed backstories for locations, factions, species... I would rather spend all day reading lore in the Tower in a Library, than do the same thing on some 3rd party website or in the depths of the menus.

                          • It kinda seems like they purposely leave every story line open. Nothing really ever seems completely finished. I don’t know if it’s really smart or really lazy.

                            • Unfortunately we're never gonna get what you're asking for. Bungie needs to take a solid 3+ years, of no dlc, to focus on a single game(D3) to get that. But they're strapped for cash without Activision and the playerbase is ravenous for any content (good or bad) that they can get their hands on Destiny will never make that big leap it needs, if Dungo has to pump out dlc every 3-4 months

                            • The first week or two of D1 was great. You could go many places like jumping off cliffs and swimming in the old airplanes in the water. You could climb way up high on buildings and even find tons of glitch areas to explore vast unfinished areas of the game. But that slowly shrank over a few months to nothing but a linear line of play that Bungie has been pretty strict with since. They intentionally placed invisible barriers everywhere just to keep players from exploring and to keep them locked into certain arena style combat areas. Destiny's original development team had grand ideas of an open world but that idea left when 95% of them all left.

                            • The story of D2 has been so awful and boring. At this point D1Y1 story is more interesting cause at least the next enemy is intimidating.
