By their own actions and comments, Bungie has made it abundantly clear that they do not want and really hate solo players. They design the game to discourage solo play by withholding OP items and content by making it unobtainable unless you assemble a fireteam.
They know individuals in a fireteam will pressure other fireteam members to play more often which contributes to the game addiction that they want players to have to insure consistent revenue.
Let me explain. So as a solo trying to have fun and enjoy the game, you come across a player with a certain OP weapon that wrecks your world and kills your fun. You then decide, hey, I would like to have that weapon because not having it is wrecking my fun. You start the necessary quest line to obtain the OP weapon. While completing the questline you find objectives that essentially require fireteams to complete. So, no fireteam...no weapon and you continue to be harassed by the OP weapon holders.
This is Bungies way of giving solo players the middle finger for not becoming a little fireteam addict with blood shot eyes who pours 20+ hours a week of their life into their addiction. Bungie simply hates solo players and sadly, it looks like this will not change. Solo players all come to a point where they question is this game really worth it for me as a solo player?

I also don't believe destiny is not a game for solos. Most of the pve content in destiny falls into two categories. Content that solos can queue up for (ig. Strikes, adept/ hero nightfall, normal mode seasonal content, and story campaign), and content that require lfg site (ig. Legend/ master/ grandmaster nightfalls, dungeons, raids, master seasonal content.) The problem with this is all of the content that a solo player can queue up for is so brain dead easy that one guardian with a semi decent loadout can easily solo it. this leads to situations where either one guy is in complete speed run mode while the rest of the fire team is just trying to catch up or everyone is fighting just for a kill. (if you want an example queue up for lake of shadows.) Next is the lfg content which as a solo player is difficult if not downright impossible to really enjoy. You see this content is where most of the challenge, rewards and fun is however since there is no matchmaking for these things your required to either have friends who play or go on lfg sites and find a party. The problem with this is that because the whole lfg process is a pain most people only want fireteam members who are insanely experienced and have the most meta loadouts (ig. Must have x amount of clears and have x or will kick). And when you finally find a fireteam all it takes is 1-2 wipes for the fireteam to disband which puts you back at square 1, this can get so frustrating after a while that you don't even wanna try the content. So what can a solo player do to experience a somewhat challenging experience without the stress of having to find a fireteam. Well you can either try your hand at soloing dungeons, or run legend/master lost sectors and the worst part of this is anytime a solo player expresses their feelings on how it is to play destiny as a solo play they get told tough -blam!- play something else.

Dude, I very much agree with you. I know this is a really old thread but I had to comment. Running activities in season 10 as a solo player is beyond not fun. I feel like I am locked out of nearly half of this seasons activities. Clearing the seraph bunker every day is a chore! I wouldnt bother but you can't access the seasonal vendor without doing so! By the way all you "it's not a solo game!" people, I do love hearing that every time a solo player complains but then when Bungie makes a change you all don't like suddenly everyone is screaming, "Just let us play the game the way we want to play it!"

1 ReplyCool, you can quit, people like you is reason we had D2 Year 1.
-
2 RepliesSo the problem is that you can't solo a multiplayer game that is packaged as a multiplayer game? I have a fireteam, we're not that good, but I have one and still play solo nearly half the time. Yet somehow my fun isn't ruined. Just stay out if the crucible if you don't want to get rekt by other guardians. The crucible is just one small aspect of the game. For the most part, it's co-op. Just have fun with it man, and if you're not, don't play it. Why do something you don't enjoy?

Man o man! Can you all stop! Destiny was intended a social game from day 1! It is a story driven game that you can play with others, that is how I received if when it first was announced. If I don't like to play with others I play other games.. It's the same principle of wanting the dark souls games have an easy mode. The game is intended a way, if you don't like it,, don't play it! I don't like sports games, am I gonna ask for a Ronaldo to wield an AK47 to shoot up mudmonsters in that game? No! I just don't play it! My point: If you don't like it, maybe it ain't the right game for you Chief 🤷

Depends on what you mean by "solo". If you one of those solo players who never wants to play with other people...and want Destiny to provide a solo experience like (for example) Spider-man or Horizon: Zero Dawn.....you're playing the wrong kind of game. But I play Destiny 2 solo about 90-95% of the time. Which means I play a lot of multiplayer activities via matchmaking when I'm not playing by myself. The only time I need to resort to LFG are those things where MM isn't offered. Namly Nightfalls....and Raids. While Bungie didn't have much ground to cordon off certain parts of the game as strictly multiplayer and requiring pre-made fire teams....while it was trying to identify as a shooter and trying to dodge the "MMO" label...... ....now that they embracing that "action-MMO" identity....then they have every reason to do this.

I spend probably 80%, or more, of my time in Destiny playing solo. I do some matchmade activities, such as strikes, Forges and Menagerie, but I don't have a regular fireteam that I play with. I have some social anxiety, so I don't like the idea of hopping into LFG for a raid (of which I have done none of in D2) just to have them screaming at me for not knowing their strategy, and not using their "required" weapons. Even so, I still play every so often, got all 3 characters to 750, and am excited to see what Shadowkeep has in store for us.

4 RepliesI'm just sayin, I solo most everything but the obvious strikes, nightfalls and raids. Implay maybe 2 hours a day, tops, on top of working 50 hours a week, sleeping sufficiently, being a family family and having extra fun. To say that the only way to get everything is by putting in 20 plus hours a week and not sleeping is akin to being ignorant. My how you would have hated d1. Especially.in the early days. This franchise has come a long way to catering to solo players. So please, do your research before ranting.

17 RepliesI played menagerie and LOVED it!!!...no mic needed, matchmaking with a whole team, successful every time!!! got all the weapons and armor sets, perfected my chalice...fantastic activity!!! ...and then i tried Heroic. toxic LFG, must have (insert meta here), must have 100+ clears, all the same "elite" raid garbage posts. i finally get on a team, smooth gameplay up until the boss...and then i get screamed at for not having this weapon or that helmet, being shouted down for not knowing some complicated strategy that nobody mentioned when we started. LFG is TOXIC and there is no place for SOLO players in this game anymore.

Destiny 2 is the only game in which I have to endure insults to play endgame because if you have no experience you cant just leave and find other team easily. At least this is how things are on PC.

2 RepliesI wanna agree with you, because I see your point. But you have to realise that discord has basically replaced matchmaking that makes fireteams in mere seconds if you A: know what you're doing, which takes about 5 mins to learn B: play an activity that others actually want to play With this comes the option of making sure the fireteam you have is somewhat built for the activity. Dosent take long to setup and once you have it you can come up with a start to make the activity easier and organized. However I don't think it would hurt to make multiplayer activities soloable, like Nightfalls need to have a solo option that makes it possible to complete a 100k in less than 7 years. The Sam difficulty, just less enemies/enemy health/ enemy damage, you get the point. Also idk what kinda fking gun is so OP that it ruins the game and has no replacement AND only comes from multiplayer activities, so please tell me which one it is.

1 ReplyThey made a social game, it’s not that they want to -blam!- over solo players it’s just the byproduct of the game they want to create. On the same hand, you can definitely still play as a solo player. Obviously you’re not doing any raids without a fire team but it’s not like the game is dead solo
-
Bump. This is so true I used to have a bunch of friends that play. And now they're so hard to find anyone. And the whole clan things I've had bad experience in them. Yeah I'm in one now but it's been weeks and I haven't played with anyone in it. If clan things work for you that's great you're lucky by clans don't work with everyone. Especially how toxic this fanbase can get. Look at almost any post in here.

Only thing I would like to see change for Solo players is "OPTIONAL" please look up the definition of OPTIONAL if you do not know it before commenting. OPTIONAL MATCHMAKING for the Nightfall NOT the Raid the NIGHTFALL. Yes I know I can use LFG to join a team but why should we have to go outside of the game to do this? What is the Nightfall: A Glorified Strike, that's it nothing new. We have all ran these "strikes" over and over NO surprise ending. Set requirements to use the (here's that word again) OPTIONAL Matchmaking. Things like total strike completions, have a required Triumph that would be tied to strikes and enable Matchmaking....Opps OPTIONAL Matchmaking, light level ect....... You see where I'am going with this. BUNGIE PLEASE consider this.
-
I will play matchmade activities but I'm a soloist. I prefer the freedom of taking a break when I want to do whatever IRL. Destiny is an escape for me, not a job. I used to group up a lot in D1 but to tell you the truth, I used to be so relieved when the groups disbanded. It feels so "locked in". Take off the headset, make a cup of tea, take a piss, decompress, go do whatever in the Game. Play PVP without someone screaming in your ear that so-n-so is a shit bag for using a Fusion rifle etc etc
-
2 RepliesSo you connect to something that gives you access to basically everyone on the planet to play a "massively multiplayer game " and are upset that you have to work together with someone? Time to get out of grandma's basement dude. I played D2 solo for months until I hit the wall of the fireteam requirement. I joined a clan and have had so much more fun and a greater experience with Destiny since then.
-
It’s not that solo players aren’t wanted in D2 or the franchise as a whole, it’s that Bungo hasn’t invested in the systems needed to further engage solo players in group activities. If your in-game chat system is trash and you refuse to put an LFG system in-game as well; then you’re doing a disservice to your solo community, especially on console.

Bungie thinks we all *want* to make friends or something on this game. I have my friends, and they stopped playing a long time ago. What few still do are too busy with life to help with the handful of quests steps that, for whatever reason, require a fireteam but don't allow matchmaking. I wouldn't be so sour about this issue if the Thorn quest allowed matchmaking for the final step, or if the special Corrupted Strike had matchmaking, or if Nightfall had matchmaking. A simple switch is all it takes to satisfy your solo players.
-
Well it is in bungie's mission statement from 1991 that they want to take over the world..
-
Itcthmb, they will be disappointed. Maybe we can't solo a raid or things like that, but there are tons of stuffs to do solo
-
All those with wallets and a penchant for barbie dress sims are most welcome any time!

Not solo, casual*

5 RepliesStop forcing yourself to play solo, lol. I built a clan from the ground up. Started out as 3 total members, the other 2 being IRL friends busy with life. Two months in of half-ass looking for people I'm now I'm sitting at 35 clanmates, 20-25 of which play regularly and enjoy participating in group activities on a near daily basis. I didn't realize there was some impassible wall keeping you from helping yourself to create your own community.

7 RepliesLfg or clans. Don’t use a mic. Whatever. Or make your peace. This is an mmo game. It requires team play. They don’t hate anyone, but they are trying to make the game to their vision. Which means having fun with your friends.
