Is there more than one hero of the red war?

Throughout the destiny series npc's mentioning us and our accomplishments has been kind of weird. In the vanilla campaign it makes us seem like only one guardian got their light back before the traveler reawakened. This is further supported by Ikora saying that we would be the only one to survive an attack to reclaim the city. However, it seems odd that if this were true, shaxx would reopen the crucible to guardians who can't revive themselves (and while in crucible we face other players or guardians who are using their light). Also if you play the Allegiance quest and side with Drifter he will tell you that there is someone investigating him. "They are a hero of the red war, just like you." This is a direct reference to players who chose the opposing path but canon wise would this mean more than one guardian did indeed gain their light? This also makes me wonder about other items involving us in destiny's lore. For example in lore we never solo raids, yet our guardian is the only one known as the slayer of oryx despite it being a team effort. (unless their are just many slayers of oryx running around the tower). Same goes for all the raids. In rise of iron, are we the only young wolf, or only member of the new generation of iron lords? Or are we just one of the new members out of thousands?

This is how I interpret everything: Story missions are all completed solo. Your guardian ALONE destroyed the black gardens heart, defeated Gaul and avenged Cayde Strikes and Raids are completed with other powerful guardians, but you’re the strongest and the fireteam leader. In mechanic heavy stuff, especially involving relics, I imagine our guardian as the one who is kinda running the show (they wielded the sword on Crota’s End for example). So like there are six guardians who killed Oryx, but we’re the most famous (like when we think of the original squad to attack the Vault of Glass, Kabr was in charge. Pahannin and Praedyth were there too but Kabr was the leader). Crucible opening in the middle of the Red War was just so people didn’t have to beat the campaign to access PvP. As far as Drifter’s dialog goes I’m not really sure. But both choices are technically cannon in the allegiance quest. Edit: I noticed, and agree with, a lot of guys posting that everyone who participated in the conflict (including lightless guardians and civilians) are heroes of the Red War.
The old doubts came back when the Light went out. But the iron in her bones, worn and rusted as it was, never buckled. The Light was gone, but holding a sniper rifle still felt right. She marched into the City beneath a refugee's hood, took up a roost in the building with the white rabbit, and killed 216 Cabal with 199 bullets. She cried when the Traveler woke before her eyes. At her hip a radio blinked to life. It had gone quiet when the Red Legion attacked. She answered it with trembling fingers. -I know,-she said. -I can see it. I can feel it. Even the stars are brighter now,- said the voice over the radio. -The whole cosmos is ablaze.- She closed her eyes. -œI can't wait to see it. I'm coming home. Efrideet out.-
Yes

    • The crucible doesn't have any merit to the overall story, just gameplay That whole Drifter side quest was a little weird. I think it makes more sense imo when you side with the vanguard, as you can interpret the voice recordings he leaves behind as originally dedicated to your Character since he was so sure we'd side with him. But then again this also isn't a flawless argument and it was clearly Bungie's way of making both results canon

        • If side with the drifter in whatever quest it is he mentions a another hero in the red war who supposedly snitched on us while we sided with him, so I guess we are not the only hero’s in any story
I’d like to think of it as living their (heroes) experience in destiny (which why we probably don’t get any dialogue?)
• That's the problem with shared world, MMO styled games such as destiny that follow a story/lore like this, which is also destiny. It's hard for both to exist while keeping the intentions of the gameplay. It doesnt always make sense, but its not that big a deal i guess.

There is the hero of the red war, us, and just heroes of the red war. Just like there are Guardians and the Guardian.

            • That’s the inherent paradox of a game like destiny that is story focused yet also multiplayer. Lore wise all the story events can be inferred to have been done solo. However since it’s a multiplayer game many things have to be ignored in order to make the game feel natural. Such as being able to participate in the crucible while you are supposedly the only guardian with light. Lore wise this makes no sense. Game development wise it was a tactical decision. Restricting crucible to only people who have completed the main story might not have gone over well. It especially won’t fit with their shadowkeep model of being able to jump into whatever you want right off the bat. Do I agree with all the lore disparities? No not really. Some things could be done better. But it’s also important to recognize that the game also has to bend the rules to make it what it is today.

However, it seems odd that if this were true, shaxx would reopen the crucible to guardians who can't revive themselves (and while in crucible we face other players or guardians who are using their light).
So, about the Crucible thing, simply, don't confuse gameplay mechanics with story/lore implications. The Crucible was "opened" since the beginning because otherwise, players should have waited until the end of the main campaign to play PvP. From a story point of view this makes sense, but its also pretty lame from a gameplay perspective. So, just ignore this.
Also if you play the Allegiance quest and side with Drifter he will tell you that there is someone investigating him. "They are a hero of the red war, just like you." This is a direct reference to players who chose the opposing path but canon wise would this mean more than one guardian did indeed gain their light?
During the Red War, the main protagonist, "The Guardian" (which is at the same time one single person but also every player of Destiny), is the only one the recover the Light from the Corrupted Shard of the Traveler in EDZ and he is the one who saved Zavala and the others on Titan, saved Cayde-6 on Nessus, stopped the Taken on Io and brought back Ikora, stopped the Red Legion Almighty and defeated Ghaul (who was then finished by the Traveler awekening). He is the Hero of the Red War. However, the Red War didn't finish there. After the defeat of Ghaul, there was still much to do. Also, other people had a major role in the Red War. Take Hawthorne for example: she is a simple human, still, she came for help the people of the city, saved them at the Farm, she helped the Vanguard to break inside the City under siege. Isn't she a Hero for this? I remember during the first months od D2 there were many theories about Hawthorne possible major role in the future of Destiny story related to the Last City. I think that when Shaxx or the Drifter talk about other Heroes of the Red War they mean this: the other people, the Lightless Guardians, the people that fought with us. Another possibile theory is the fact that he refers to the other players/The Guardian that decided to side with the opposite side (The Vanguard).
This also makes me wonder about other items involving us in destiny's lore. For example in lore we never solo raids, yet our guardian is the only one known as the slayer of oryx despite it being a team effort. Or are we just one of the new members out of thousands?
Exactly as before, you must think that The Guardian is one (you) and milion others at the same time. The story in D1/D2 is focused about the rise of a legend. That's why old cinematics and some cutscenes talk about "A Hero". However, if you think about the Last Wish Raid of FOrsaken, after it was completed for the first time, the cinematic talked about "A group of six elite Guardians". Also Calus talks about "the Guardians" and not only of "The Guardian". Instead, Orin, the Emissary of the Nine, talks about us specifically as "one", she and the Nine are directly interested in "The Guardian" as a single person because he is the one where all the points tend to flow together. Instead, AGAIN, if you read To Truth to Power lore, also there when Eris/Medusa talks about the last wish granted by Riven, she talked of the Wish made by "SIX GODSLAYERS". So, again, no just one Godslayer (The Hero/The Guardian), but six godslayers/six heroes. Why there is so much confusion? Probably because, as we know very well, Destiny went throught a troublesome development that involved also the lore/story side. The game changed drastically three times during Destiny, then Destiny 2 Vanilla and then Destiny 2 Forsaken. While with Destiny 2 vanilla we had a mediocre story with basically almost zero lore, with Destiny 2 Forsaken and the Annual Pass everything changed. That's also why we had so many discrepancies between what we learned from the scattered and cryptic lore of Destiny 1 and the lore of Destiny 2 (Ana Bray, Osiris ecc ecc).

                • Well, I assume Crucible matches aren't canon during Red War because that would be stupid. Canonically it was only our character and then after Ghaul ate it, everyone was back

I could be wrong seeing as I'm just some random dude, and i still can't figure out if we're the same dude from the first game since the ghost has to tell us what everything is

                        • We are “the hero of the red war” since we did pretty much everything, But there are others who are “a hero of the red war” perhaps they had a high cabal kill count in the retaking of the city, perhaps they dealt some other major blow to the cabal. We are the slayer of oryx because we killed him in our world and in his ascendant plane, if you want to say there are six slayers of oryx it wouldn’t really contradict any lore or anything. Since I think technically our guardian led the mission. In Rise of Iron Saladin calls us Young Wolf, but it basically means new Iron lord. Saladin said at one point “you are the first in a new generation of iron lords”(think how if two new people came to your work, you might call both of them “the new guy”)

                        • Whatever the fireteam limit is for the activity then that’s the canon For example, there are 3 Young Wolves, 3 Heroes of the Red War, 6 Oryx Slayers etc

                        • Technically there can be a maximum of three Heroes of the Red War that slayed Ghaul because of the Fireteam size limit, but overall any person that fought at the city in the Red War with or without light, are considered heroes of the Red War.

Canonically speaking, no. We're "THE" Guardian that accomplishes everything that has to do with things that progress the campaign story. The only time other players' Guardians are factored into the lore is during strikes (Xol) and raids (Last Wish and curse being enabled). Even then they're not "the" Guardian still. They're just extremely skilled Guardians, some of the best out there.
