Just to put it out there, I haven't played Destiny 2 in quite some time. Now that I'm a PC player, I'm waiting for the game to go free so I can play it again. And as I await my return to the painful cycle that is the meta, I reminisce about my most used weapon in Destiny 1:
The No Land Beyond.
I first got the weapon in Year One as a reward for completing the Prison of Elders. I used it for about two minutes in PvE, and dropped it completely. Fast forward to later, and I pick it up again and start using it in PvP. I still don't know why I started to use it, but I'd imagine it to be out of anger towards the meta. I never really intended to use it primarily. At the time, No Land Beyond was a joke. No one used it for anything. But then I popped my first headshot, and I fell in love.
At first, my friends questioned my choice to use it. But eventually, they hopped on board, and together we slowly mastered the weapon. As far as I could tell (in my COUNTLESS HOURS of playing the game), no one else used the No Land Beyond like we did. We even used it in trials with confidence. And then, several months later, possibly even close to a year, we witnessed the rise of the No Land Beyond meta.
I won't say we started the meta, but it sure as hell felt like we did.
Of course, this inevitably led to people complaining about it, especially with the special ammo changes made, and it got nerfed. It was the ultimate irony, and the most heartbreaking change notes I ever read. But we adjusted, and carried on with our No Land Beyond lives.
I think No Land Beyond deserves to be in Destiny 2. I'm not sure how it would fit, given the weapon loadout system is vastly different then Destiny 1, but I think that if people can use two-tap hand cannons, I can use my precious No Land.
I remember when I created a forum post for Destiny 1 after No Land was nerfed, saying to buff it back to normal again. It had attracted a lot of attention (much more than I had expected), and created some debate on whether or not No Land Beyond was OP...
It wasn't.
...But it also let me see just how many people loved the No Land as well, and it was really fun to read everyone's two cents on the weapon.
And so, years later, I return to the forums to spark interest in the players. Since Bungie has been bringing back Destiny 1 weapons, I think it's completely reasonable to return the No Land Beyond to its rightful home. Bring back my baby!

If they bring it back, bring back the Remote too.
-
5 RepliesGo back to D1 if you want to use old weapons. I prefer to have new weapons
-
No, best left-back in the good old days. Bring on the new.
-
2 RepliesNO THANKS. Lets instead ask for NEW weapons, New Perks, New SOMETHING!!! This game is already full of re-skins.
-
No more re-introductions. This game has far too many already. The aim assist on snipers is broken enough as it is. Don't bring back even more broken weapons.

2 RepliesThe only option for bringing it back would be to make it use primary ammo instead of special. There are already grenade launchers that do that, so why not a sniper? I'm with you.

Ahh happy memories! I have a similar story to yours, took a lot of time and practice to master it, a proper high risk high reward weapon. Always made me laugh when so many were crying for nerfs claiming anyone could destroy with it but funnily enough they didn’t use it haha.
-
Cue secret tea quest to get it from Devrim
-
I say make a perk similar to the Fighting Lion's perk. A head shot kill gives ammo back to the reserves. I know the Fighting Lion makes it drop more ammo that you need to pick it up. But a sniper is typically used at further ranges.
-
I was clearly not a huge fan of this weapon, but come on! Its model is already in the game since D2 day 1! Devrim Kay has it in his hands! I mean, it should had been present in the game since a while now.
-
The only thing special about it was that it was a primary sniper. I don’t have to tell you how redundant that is now.
-
I was one of those who championed against the No Land Beyond meta. But if it was brought back I wouldn't mind using it again so long as the player using it flinches like every other sniper rifle user.
-
If they fix the reload cancel glitch.
-
5 RepliesLike there's not enough "leet" MLG snipelords trying to ADS all match even with the slight restriction of needing special ammo...
-
3 RepliesNO it about time that bungie uses a real sniper rifle design like usmc M40A1 or a M40A3 not some crap from ww2
-
If you have the skill to use that steaming pile of shiesse, go right ahead.
-
That's my baby! I've been playing D1 again and -blam!- it feels good

Edited by meatballsublime: 9/6/2019 1:13:17 PMNo Land Beyond would have be reworked for D2, now that other snipers (and non-exotic at that) are in the primary slot. I guess one potential benefit would be to allow No Land Beyond to use primary ammo vs special like it did in D1. Primary ammo would be a small boost over other primary-slot snipers. I'd also like to see the sight reworked to be less obstructive (without losing the charm, if possible). ...Maybe they could add something like an Outlaw-style perk that improved the reload (not to the full extent of standard Outlaw) on precision kills. Make the next bullet on a precision kill load faster, for better mob control in either PvP or PvE. Imagine, you might actually be able to use it in PvE without it being a joke or personal challenge (like the raid team that killed Crota only using No Land Beyonds ...and the sword obviously).

Screw all these NO warriors in here!!I I miss that weapon and it honestly should have been the first weapon they brought back!! We used to have NLB only matches and it was a blast!!!
-
2 RepliesNLB was so bad lmao
-
Pfft... had it before Crota ;)
-
Paired with the artifact that gives you detailed radar while ADS.... greasy fun.
