Right now the forums are seeing an abundance of complaints about the "Battle Pass" format that is coming to Destiny and its future updates, and while I can appreciate the frustration at this change, I think a lot of people miss an import part of this; Bungie no longer has Activision there to bankroll them while they work on this stuff.
All new content takes time to plan, develop, code and polish. This takes time and money - Money that Bungie now have to generate themselves.
Bungie used to come up with an idea, create a pitch and take that to Activision. Activision would then finance it, or request changes to improve their financial gains. That no longer happens. So Bungie turns to us, the players for financing.
We are now Bungie's "Activision". Like it or not, we wanted Activision out of the way, we got it, now WE are the only source of revenue Bungie have. They have to make their pitch to us, and ask us to finance it through development and release, they do this by the "battle pass" model.
If you're upset with the Battle Pass model, you're simply not understanding how economics work.
We now bankroll Bungie, and they need that money up-front to pay their staff to make things FOR US.
TL:DR - stop whining about Battle Pass. It's better for the game and better for us. Don't want to pay for future updates? Enjoy the F2P part!

1 ReplyWe don’t need a battle pass. All we need is to go back to the simpler days of Destiny 1. Daily heroic mission Weekly heroic strike Nightfall Raid Vanguard, crucible, Iron Banner and exotic bounties Doing all that on 3 characters is plenty of content for the week. Best of all....NONE OF IT IS MONETIZED!
