A freakin' Raid Boss should never be one-phased. Otherwise I see no reason why said boss is a raid boss.
Disagree with "more annoying". In most MMOs you simply can't "one phase" a boss. The challenge does not only come from mechanics. The biggest challenge is to actually work in a team, stay focused, and repeat that until the boss falls.
What's funny is, everytime you LGF for groups, people there totally panic and do mistake after mistake if the group failed to slay a boss in the first phase. Truly shows how "skilled" many are.
They can't alternate between tactics, they don't even know different tactics at all...which is sad.
All they can do is stand in a damn huge buff aura.
A raid is a challenge in many aspects, not just pure mechanics. The raid design teams obviously want to preserve that aspect, and I see nothing wrong with it.

In Spire of Stars. Encounter one wipe screen counts how long we Have our lanterns/pillars up for and who lit the pure/through the ball into the pot. There is no gain from doing it longer than intend, delaying the final ball toss. Phase 1 of the boss, requires us to not -blam!- up while attempting to destroy 3 ships. The wipe screen shows weapons charged and ships destroyed. there are only 3 ships to destroy in ph 1 and technically only 3x to arm a weapon. Ph 2 has 6 ships with the options to be destroyed as we have to get two at a time. We also have to arm two weapons. I sherpa a lot of folks through spire and teaching the mechanics and inner workings of how to get to boss DPS. The wipe screen shows us how many ships destroyed. Boss damage, and weapons armed. There is no bonus for taking out all 6 ships. There’s has never been a bonus for going over the allowed amount of damage phases for a boss. Every boss gets enraged for a reason and tries to wipe you because you as a team have failed. That’s not a goal people aim to achieve. I will teach people Spire and they will carry out their roles as best as possible to get a 1 ph. If they are coordinated to arm in under 30/40 secs and line up perfectly for ball passes and damage they deserve to 1 ph. Cause they have their shit together. I and 5 copies of myself can act nonchalant and carry out 3 long dmg phases for Spire in Val fair because I can do each role perfectly, add clear, dmg, callouts. That doesn’t make my reward sweeter. I still want to be done as quickly as possible. If I want that challenge I’ll play prestige. Bungie made their game this way and even nerfed EP because of it. I’ll 1 phase as much as I can. If we can’t 1 ph, we get bosses like Shuro Chi, locked behind rng puzzles and a timer made solely to slip up players .its dumb. I feel you that raid bosses should feel like big encounters, but Spire is a lair and last wish has its moments of decent boss fights. But on one hand you have something easy like Morgeth, and then on the bad side Shuro Chi.

Edited by superluigi6968: 9/4/2019 3:24:40 PMSpire is just broke, tho. Also, Shuro Chi being a damage check boss with a side of puzzles is kind of the point of the encounter. If the plates puzzle wasn't prone to breaking, the encounter would be pretty good.

Spire has it’s buggy moments that an expert can work around. Coincidentally one of the bugs freezes the encounter making it so you can’t continue after 1 dmg phase as Val won’t continue his list of actions.

Riven as a boss is garbage, overly mechanically complex, imho, so if the choice is irritating nonsense mechanics or one phasing I'm all for one phase. The rest of the raid I have to say is good fun and enjoyable. Also what I find annoying is that so many of the mechanics used in different raids are reliant on nobody dying with out a chance to recover, I'm ok with it being a challenge prerequisite or part of a heroic raid but there should always be a way to pull it back, that in itself is also what makes raiding fun. Don't get wrong I don't have the answers and I don't think for one minute that creating a raid is an easy task for a dev, in fact after playing this game and vanilla for 6 years I'd say that it and weapon balancing are probably the most difficult.

They should be once you get powerful enough.
-
Edited by Ubisuccle: 9/4/2019 1:58:15 PMThey should only be one phased if your run is perfect, not cause of a single ability + power level
-
I agree with the ability part. However, I feel if you become more and more powerful, things should pose less a challenge. And if it gets to the point of too easy, then have increased difficulty levels, more mechanics, modifiers, ect.
-
Personally none of the raids need more mechanics on the bosses. We’re getting to the point where its “Hit this plate, do this puzzle, kill this ad, dunk this here, parkour for your life, dunk that there” and you get my point. That’s perceived difficulty, not actual difficulty. Especially when the boss sits there charging a wipe mechanic just so you can do damage to it with little to no risk.
-
Im gonna disagree with the mechanic thing. None of the raids need more mechanics imo. That just adds perceived difficulty. “Kill this major, do this puzzle, dunk this here, parkour this level, jump on plates in a certain order...” you get my point.

One phases should only happen when the execution is PERFECT and I mean perfect it should not be the norm to on phase a raid boss I mean hell the only boss I can think off I don’t one phase every time is kaili

Need 5 Warlocks with well and Luna for Phase 2
I already did it on my warlock so I cant be one of the warlocks and that is why I need 5 warlocks
Bungies boss design is the problem. When immovable bosses just stand there moaning while players shoot his stomach, followed by a boss hand wave to shoot at again afterwards...is bad raid design. If the bosses had any sort of movement mechanic/dmg phase to not encourage gaurdians to just stand stationary and unleash dmg, would fix alot of problems.
-
This, the execution is usually due said requirements dps. Not our fault they sit there. They need to find a balance in terms of move em like Templar, or shorten our phases.
-
Still gonna get one phased regardless, that ain't going to change. The community has proved this multiple times
-
If a boss ain't going to move, I'm going to put it down quicker than a sick dog. It's going to get erased, and I'm not going to feel sorry about it either.
-
Raid bosses absolutely deserve to be one phased each and every time if they stand still and do not even attempt to avoid incoming fire. If something doesn't move, I'm going to make sure it can't move even if it wanted to each and every time.
-
Maybe they should have made the bosses challenging in the first place...
-
LFG is probably the biggest challenge
