I only until recently have stuck with the Destiny subreddit . . .

Why the hell is this community so toxic? It literally depresses me going through the comments bashing Bungie for trying to please us. If you don’t like it, why do you still play it?

  • First off, welcome. To answer your question, is a rather long discussion. There are several reasons that lead to toxicity here. Or at least perceived toxicity. A lot of the complaints come from people who haven't played since Forsaken. A lot of complaints come from people who think spending $60 should equate to a minimum 4000 hours of playtime and at max, infinite play time. And there are some that think every single thing ever released as content, must be 100% unique/new. No similar models allowed. Some people want to play exactly how they want, and think that Bungie should have no say in progression paths. Some people want a pure action game. Meaning the thought of having to play in game activities, to farm materials, to upgrade or enhance anything about their guardian, is the end of the world. So some hate the grind. Some are solo players that want access to all the rewards through solo play. Or demand matchmaking for everything. Some people hate pvp, and want it removed. Some people that enjoy pvp, hate those who hate pvp. And vice versa. Some people think that microtransactions are the devil, and hate that other people spend money on them. And these dislikes are shared by some, but really just overlap here and there. But way too many people think their opinions about the game are majority opinions. And when this happens, discussions often break down to back and forth name calling, just adding to the negativity. Too many people also like to label those of us who don't think Bungie is necessarily any of the following; "lazy, greedy, scummy, against the players, selfish, only in it for the money," as, "sheep," or the ever favorite, "Fanboys." As if being a fan of something is inherently bad. Or enjoying things that aren't universally loved is some type of crime, or disqualifying for a continued, civil exchange of ideas. And probably the biggest contributor to the toxicity? A whole bunch of Trolls. Trolls that don't play. Never have, or have but just the bare minimum of unlocking the Farm, so they can come here and $hit on everything Bungie does. And explain how horrible Bungie is. They may claim to be simply providing feedback. But often have such a negative bias, that they can't be reasoned with. "Bungo sucks, and Destiny 2 is trash, because I say so!" Hard to have a polite conversation or comment thread, when that is the Topic body. Again, I welcome you to this rather small, very vocal, minority of the Destiny universe player base. And can only try to assure you, there are many here that are willing to have mature, civil discussions with about, pretty much anything concerning the Destiny universe. Good hunting to you Guardian!

Bashing bungie for trying to please us? Ignoring all of the requests for dedicated servers and matchmaking isn’t bungie trying to please us. Making pretty much every single good cosmetic in the game locked behind microtransactions or a ridiculous farm/waiting game for the right item to be sold isn’t bungie trying to please us. Bungie charging $35 for what is essentially a lazy -blam!-ing reskin that they should 100% be bashed for, isn’t bungie trying to please us. It’s them trying to do the least amount of work possible and still making money out of it. You want to know why communities go toxic? Look no further than the developers themselves.

      • Looks Toxic to an outsider, but you have to dig deeper, try to look at it from other perspectives, ask why. Reddit just blindly hypes and is happy about everything. False perspectives, there's rage there too but you don't see it. "Hey look at the bright side, at least we get a shader after we get -blam!-ed" Am I over exaggerating? Maybe... Not.

      • Destiny Subreddit isn’t much better. If you don’t go along with whatever the mob likes or dislikes, they’ll destroy and downvote you to hell there too. It does offer better actual information about the game which is why I frequent it. But the people there aren’t much better either.

The forums are where Bungie wants players to post feedback and have discussions about the game. They don’t limit us to positive feedback and opinions only. If you don’t want to read players real opinions then you don’t have to read the forums.

              • Blame Putin & the Russian troll farms?! 😂 Just kidding! Some people don’t know how to communicate without alienating others? I’ve been told I come across that way sometimes.

              • Seriously, a small section of people on a different forum on this website call this forum the salt mines.
