Hey Guardians,
This is an issue that's gone by for two years now almost completely incog. The few times people have brought up the issue it's always been passed off as "the limitations of a controller", "Not an actual problem", or "you have no idea what you're talking about. This isn't a thing."
On controllers the ability button is bound to the crouch button. This causes a seemingly negligible delay, but then when tied in with sprinting creates a significant delay (Demonstrated in video above.)
Every different controller layout has the same redundancy and there isn't enough space to fit the ability button on it's own solo button. In the video link I fully demonstrate how we could fix the layouts: A perfectly capable place for abilities is where the highlight player button is (On the default control scheme this is on Right Stick Click), but to move highlight player somewhere else we would have to make an Emote Wheel/Mode to free up the space.
Clicking the video link up top you'll see the comparison's I've recorded and explanations of why abilities are cast slower on controllers as a result of poor design on the developer side.
And for anyone that would say this isn't a big deal and that no one should care: I've provided a perfectly good solution to a clearly displayed problem. Even if YOU don't think this delay is a big deal, wouldn't you still enjoy faster casts and other benefits? There's nothing but improvements to be made here. Please be reasonable.
Edit: Even with the new layout, the ability button can stay on hold crouch for people that want to use it that way, but also be in the new spot at the same time. That way on the same control scheme everyone will be able to do it the old way if they please but also have access to the normal and correct way.

9 RepliesJust use right analog for crouch. It works wonders

4 Replies1) In the video it’s very clear you do not press the button twice immediately when the timer starts. You also state verbally that it takes 2.5 seconds to perform the action, while on screen it takes 2.07 seconds. That’s a difference of 430 milliseconds. Verbally you more than double the difference between the PC 1.7 seconds and controller’s 2 seconds. Intentional or not, this twists the understanding of watchers because they’re paying more attention to what they hear, not what they see. 2) If you just double-tap the button quickly and distinctly, the ability activates very quickly. Double tapping can add barely 300ms to the time this way, bringing the two much closer. 3) If it is such an enormous problem that you’re resorting to labelling us stupid (because you can’t think of a more intelligent way to respond to a disagreement than to insult your way through it) if we don’t see things your way, then why is it not being discussed... at all? This is a prime example of someone finding something they don’t like, and having a small fit about it, making a video online that attacks the idea of opposition to it being a problem, and makes it sound worse than it is deliberately by being hyperbolic. You’re only gaining traction, if any, by making people not want to be classed with fools, and by essentially lying by being enormously manipulative of how you explain the issue. In short; I fail to see the problem. I myself have used it throughout D2, and never once have I had an issue with it. Yes that is opinion, but considering nobody’s mentioned it before, I’d say it’s a common one. Why change what works? If you want something to change, you won’t manage it by insulting people and making crucial, basic mistakes in how you explain the problem. One more question: what’s your suggested layout? What, in your mind, would be so much better than this?

1 ReplyEdited by WulfPak666: 9/2/2019 10:19:45 AMToo many times I've gone to slide across my bum to avoid disaster only to end up poping my rift and dying thanks to the 5 seconds of "dur, I can't stop this animation" moments.

1 Reply10/10 flawlessness and thank you. I will upvote this post as many times as you're able to post it. THANK YOU!

2 RepliesI can't say I've ever had a problem with this. Are you saying you crouch when you go to cast your super? If so then maybe your controller is faulty.

1 ReplyPc is easy mode, everyone already knows this.

Give this attention.

3 RepliesNot sure if I understand the problem but as you're on xbox will an elite controller solve this issue?
-
2 RepliesI always thought that shattered throne was one of the best pieces of content they added to the game. I wish they would make more 3 man dungeons/raids.

Console just needs to be able to enter the slide animation rather than slide, stop, deploy

On PC, class ability is tied to its own button. On controller, you have to press and hold the crouch button. It's an annoying overlook when you're crouch spamming in a gunfight and then you pop a healing rift and you stand there for three seconds like a pleb.

1 ReplyMy muscle memory that I’ve built up over the course of five years is not ready to get rektd just yet. I do appreciate the idea, but I’m not ready for the short term consequences.

2 RepliesI'd gladly give up emotes if I could use my D-pad to be able to at least cycle through my kinetic weapon slot on the fly. Even better if I could use it for energy and power.

1 ReplyController layout should be totally customizable, in this day and age. I have to use one of Bungie's controller layouts but have a few buttons swapped via Xbox's customization... which works, but unfortunately means that some menu actions also get remapped to a button that I don't like using repeatedly but am forced to because messing with which button does what is such a palaver. And I'm almost certain that change resulted in increased RSI in my hands, wrists, forearms, etc.

3 RepliesWait so we’re wanting to nerf controllers now?

25 Repliesjust another reason to switch to PC i’m sick of you console peasants crying about your 10 year old hardware and shitty input devices

2 RepliesWhats the issue tho

1 ReplyI play hunter on Xbox and personally don’t have a problem with the control layout, I can however see the problem if you’re either warlock or titan. And yes it is completely stupid they don’t allow you to map out your own layout.

1 ReplyTrying to figure out how this would work with my controller setup. I play Puppeteer (Crouch and Player Highlight are swapped.) I like having crouch bound to RS because it lets me slide, crouch and use my class ability while maintaining maximum control of my camera. Mapping class abilities to a different button now means I have to take my thumb off of the right stick if I want to perform one of these actions (depending on the button layout,) as opposed to having everything in one place. I could map my ability button to my fourth Elite paddle, but I don't like having all four on at once. It feels crowded and I mis-click a lot. So for me spitting class abilities and crouch would actually be more cumbersome than the system I have now, despite the delay. The reduced sensitivity in certain scenarios is dumb and should be changed though.

So i have no idea what the flaw But its been the same since Halo. "Asside for the zoom option" and it was tegarded as the best control layout. Same for now. Pressing 2 easy to access buton isnt a flaw.

Fixed layouts are the problem, we should have remapping for every button on every type of controller plain and simple. Many PC games have this. Imagine not being able to map out your HOTAS in a flight sim, lol, unthinkable!
