There’s no point to guarding with swords in 98% of situations.
Two uses for it that I can think of: mitigating fall damage and avoiding instant death from the vaporizing death-wall from Hasapiko while in a Well of Radiance. That’s it.
Sword guarding should be able to tank a little more than a handful of Hive boomer shots if you basically become immobilized while you do it. The only time it’s sensible to guard is if you’re a Titan using Stronghold gauntlets. Otherwise you might as well just dodge.
We need a noticeable increase to the damage resistance, we’re using heavy ammo weapons that put us in the line of fire, not toy daggers. If we can guard, we should be encouraged to do so, otherwise what’s the point of being able to guard to begin with?

1 ReplyPhase 1 Ghalran. They do well for total damage not really DPS. Surrounded and Whirlwind Blade being active in this encounter allow them to be really viable options.

Edited by WulfPak666: 9/2/2019 10:28:37 AMRemember when sword guarding was so good you could literally negate Skolas' poison mechanic? Tank a Golden Gun? Eat Nova bombs, rockets, sleeper shots... (Or reflect them with Artifact) Tank a hit from Crota? Become immune to Deathsinger's Curse during Warpriest totems? Negate stomp knock back? Good times...

Dont think they should be paired with a gauntlet exotic to be someone ok, the synthosep stack whatever bug shouldve been all swords base damage and the other arms should be how they default block
-
I'll agree to these. As an avid sword user, the only viable guard to have on a sword is heavy guard. And even then you can only tank at max about 2-3 EP exploding thrall, but not without destroying your ammo reserves. Wizard blasts require 10 ammo to block regardless of guard type. And they're shot rapid fire making blocking pointless. I think it shouldn't require additional ammo to block any type of attack. But rather the ammo should steadily tick down whilst blocking attacks just like when not blocking anything. And then the actual damage resistance for all guard types should go up by about 30%.

4 RepliesConsidering that you could block with a sword and live through bomb explosions and wipe mechanics in D1 during the Oryx encounter during kings fall raid.... swords have gotten pretty weak in D2
-
3 RepliesUnpopular opinion ,Guarding with a sword should deflect bullets by default ,but at less damage
-
You should retain full mobility while blocking. That would make them a GOOD option for close quarters and make them more interesting in general.
just imagine it...the sword meta!
-
Need rising more ammo

4 RepliesIt works against the crazy warden that shoots fire at the end of that subway strike. In fact, there's a triumph for it, to stand there like an idiot and let him shoot his fire at you for 10 seconds or something like that. The only way I could think of to do it was to block it with my sword and it worked. Also, stop using change my mind, you know that's annoying AF. you KNOW this.

1 ReplyImagine if swords were as good as they were in D1. They're utter trash now. Even worse than sidearms.
-
Remember when you could survive Oryx smashing you with his hand while blocking in Kings Fall.
-
Yeah sword itself needs a buff, Since swinging itself too sucks. It's way too slow compared to the damage I take, not efficient. The only usage for blocking to be used is when you are in Shuro Chi's puzzle, but it also gets pointless to because Warlocks would just put their rift or radiance on it.
-
Swords should become primaries and guarding needs a significant buff so it completely blocks more damage and consumes no energy when no hits are received. But, these are scummy trash devs that won’t touch anything the community asks for, all while continuously adding even more scams to eververse/the battle passes.

2 RepliesWith Stronghold you can have near 100% combo uptime on bosses with swords, just perfect block their stomp and heal to full and continue slashing. Without Stronghold yeah sure it's pointless.
-
22 RepliesThat titan exotic that allows for better sword stuff is actually garbage.
-
7 RepliesThe damage resistance isn’t bad, it just roasts ammo.
-
We all know the real swords are still in D1. :)
-
I only block damage when standing still to revive teammates
-
1 ReplyRemember the relic from d1 that bounces projectiles off? Awww yeeeeaaaa
-
Titans got lucky. One of our newer exotics making blocking free. I’ve played some strikes with it and it’s fun, jumping around keeping the enemy fire while teammates mop up. I was using my hagakure
-
How do we recognize a D2 noob?
he is using a sword
I use strongholds with burst guard in gambit...but I get killed with izagnami's burden no matter what at 4x honed edge. I use them in pvp and a shotgun blast will kill me. a sniper shot takes almost half my hp. All of this was with burst guard and I still feel like i'm not blocking enough damage when it comes to pvp
-
Has no use in PvP either because it slowed your mobility down that you can actually run up to an enemy player to get within swing distance without them having enough time to sink two primary mags into the guard / or just run away. Same with gambit invaders / invading.

Edited by COMBATICUS: 9/1/2019 2:21:38 AMIdk if this was a glitch or lag, but I had an iron banner match where a titan with 1 eyed mask proc'd using the menagerie sword blocked half of my BB and survived lol
-
3 Repliesi love swords in pvp, 3rd person view coupled with Blink is an awesome way to play, mine has Infinite Guard, High efficiency & Whirlwind Blade Guarding with a sword is not just about standing still tanking damage, it's more of a last ditch effort to stay alive while retreating to cover or to close the Gap when you come up short
-
I still use quickfang in crucible for style points
