Please remove mandatory PVP as part of Exotic quests.

I know I'm not good at PVP - I'm especially bad when I am forced to play with a specific weapon or ability class. It's not fun running around with a hand cannon trying to work on an individual reward while the rest of my team (and opponents) are running with optimal gear/weapon/ability loadouts working on team goals. It drags down my team and everyone's overall experience. Pinnacle weapons are a great reward for people who want to run specific content; I'm fine with not getting something like The Recluse because that is and should be a reward for players who love playing, and being good at, PVP. Exotics, at a minimum, should have quest steps that offer an either/or option for equivalent PVP/PVE content. Thanks for listening - back to IB queue with my void hand cannon.... EDIT: Appreciate all the (mostly) thoughtful comments and helpful suggestions for completing the Thorn and TLW quests. What was really driving me nuts was watching the TLW quest progress decrease while the Thorn increased or stood still. Look, I like PVP, so I figured instead of focusing on Thorn and the HC/Void loadout, I'd try to finish TLW and just play to win. When I decided to do that, my four most recent Iron Banner matches yielded the following efficiency/guardians defeated numbers: 1.33 - 12 1.10 - 11 4.60 - 23 2.57 - 18 And, I finished the quest. Now back to the void/HC loadout, but at least I don't have to see progress decrease in any questlines....

      • You need a helmet with targeting assistance. Improved handcannon/improved precision targeting/Improved scatter projectile targeting is available on a lot of helmets. And if you want to roll around like a bad @$$ mother f**ker with enhanced targeting then jump into the menagerie and grind for a helmet with an enhanced perk (FYI: enhanced perks also come on iron banner gear atm) Here is a link to the rune combos for menagerie. I got my Reverie Dawn Enhanced Hand Cannon targeting from Menagerie: https://www.pcgamer.com/au/destiny-2-menagerie-recipes-the-best-weapon-and-armor-rune-combos/ Just like Raids and nightfalls getting better just takes time and practise. Too many of the PvE crowd jump into the crucible and can't handle the loss of their power fantasy.
Human targets are harder to deal with than static PvE bosses and that's what makes it fun
• Some exotics are almost entirely designed for the Crucible (Last Word, Colony). A weapon that is strong in PvP should have at least a bit of PvP needed to get it.

Why are you using that void hand cannon if you don't want to? I assume it's for the Thorn quest. But it might not help you much because for best efficiency it's precision kill streak with void hand cannon as per the description (not just kills). You might be better off using a void subclass with void weapons of your choice. I used Graviton Lance, Inaugural Address, Claws of the Wolf, Hammerhead on my Voidwalker.

Just need to have a pve/pvp option and steps that don't require non solo-able content. Thats not to say it needs to be easy or have the grind factor taken out. Also shouldn't have steps that interfere with the actual team mechanics so players don't effect others that are playing the objective. Edit: Could also be set up to be either or, pick your poison for each quest step. Ex. 20 strikes for pve or 30 matches of pvp.

            • I agree tbh. It doesn't bother me, cos I basically run everything, besides raids, but that's more lack of mic and available matchmaking/people to play with. But I know others don't. Exotics need to have multiple options in my opinion, unless the Exotic in question came FROM a certain activity, e.g. Malfeasance requiring Gambit matches, Chaperone requiring Crucible matches.

            • The real issue here is that PvP matchmaking is non-existent. If there were some matchmaking then these PvP quest steps wouldn't be so painful to achieve. I had not played PvP in Destiny before the recent Solstice and one of the steps was 100 void orbs from Guardians. I also had Ace of Spades and one of the other hand cannon quests on the go so I thought it was about time I jumped in and gave it a go. I went into Quickplay (maybe that was my mistake) as I didn't want to ruin a teams chances of winning so went into a free for all where my personal performance wouldn't impact anyone else. I got absolutely slaughtered. I was up against people with PvP pinnacle weapons. Recluse popped up time and time again. Not sure how the team version matchmaking works - maybe there is some. I didn't try as quickplay put me right off. Hopefully there is going to be some matchmaking coming in with Shadowkeep otherwise new players are going to be put off and not come back. With MM we'd at least get people of similar skill levels paired together making the PvP quest steps less of a chore.

              • Yeah. I just got to the Ace of Spades portion that requires precision kills with a hand cannon in PvP. My first thought was, "well, guess I'm never getting that gun" and then immediately, "I just wasted all that time running this quest for it to end like this?" I was frustrated. But then I remembered this game is going free-to-play in October. I'm hoping to knock off this part with all the new folks just entering the Crucible for the first time. It'll still take me like 50+ matches—I am not good at PvP. Also, everyone in here arguing that PvP portions SHOULD be required in exotic quests are most likely really awesome at PvP and just have a blast one-shotting us idiots that never play the stupid thing and only go in when we are forced to.

                • Crucible is part of the destiny universe. Why should someone get everything in a game if they’re not willing to do all of the content? I would concede quest steps could be reduced, but at least some exotics should require you to play crucible.

Personally I don't really agree with the people making the point that weapons that are good in PvP should require PvP steps Many of our PvE weapons are the absolute Meta in PvP. Bygones and Jötun have proved that in D2 every bit as Vex Mythoclast, or Pocket Infinity did in D1. The Lumia quest probably did it best, there was an option to either compete in PvP or slay out in PvE pretty much all the way out to the finish

                      • None of the exotic pvp quests were that difficult. I gotta go into pve for grindy and annoying quest steps so why can’t pve players go into pvp from time to time? Stop complaining about being bad and that Crucible is toxic because you rarely go in there so of course you won’t be good

                            • While I see your point and you fairly pointed out that pvp players deserve pinicals of there own I think in the same light they deserve exotics I know people that play just 1 half of the game. It is frustrating when you have a game or 2 with no progress. But that can happen in the raid too 40 clears for 1k and I have pvp friends who gave up after 10 runs accepted it’s not worth there time

I wouldn’t mind the quest being tied to PvP if not for fact that D2 PvP is the worst PvP in gaming. It’s absolutely broken in every facet and they have exactly no one in the studio with quality PvP experience to fix it. I can’t even fathom how much worse it will be with Shadowkeep. I only say that because Bungie has a recorded history of progressively making PvP worse with each sandbox change...going all the way back to D1. And I honestly don’t think they could make the PvP matchmaking anymore worse if they went out and hired a team of plumbers to fix it. Absolutely the worst in gaming HISTORY.

There are hundreds of weapons in this game, a hand full have any real PVP requirements. If you either cant be arsed or have not got the skill to complete the requirements for them then that's your problem. Its a dual aspect game, designed for teams, not for you to solo PVE every aspect of it.

                            • I'm not sure what hand cannon it was for, but there were three separate steps on that gave pve and pvp options. It was something like (these steps are random guesses so they're probably wrong): Step 1: Kill hunters in the crucible or do blind well/bounties Step 2: Kill warlocks in the crucible or do forge ignitions/bounties Step 3: Kill titans in the crucible or do escalation protocol/bounties People are shitting on this idea when it already exists in the game.

                              • The good thing about these PvP quests is you can finish them in Rumble (did it for both Mal and Ace, which is basically deathmatch. While you'll likely get slaughtered in the first matchup, the subsequent ones should work out better. Personally, i hate raid/"raid" requirements because, unless i'm missing something, you need a preformed group to complete. Luckily for Mal, i was in a clan already and got the help i needed. But currently being clanless, getting some of these weapons is a no-go.
