Can't play D2 on PC any more (since cross-save, but don't know if that's related).

I downloaded Destiny 2 to my PC several months back, played it for a bit, then realized I didn't want to run through the whole vanilla campaign again, so kind of stopped playing. Then Bungie enabled cross save. So I did that so I could access my ps4 characters on my pc. Enabling went fine, but when I run the game, it locks up my computer after only a couple of minutes, requiring me to sign out or reboot. I ran battle net's Scan and Repair tool. That didn't tell me it found/fixed anything, but I don't know if it's supposed to, or if it just does it. Still locks up. I looked online and found some 'recommended' settings and tried those - still locks up. I used GeForce Experience to automatically select the best settings - still locks up. Uninstalled and reinstalled D2- still locks up. Set back to default in-game video settings - still locks up. The only other game I have installed is Diablo III, which in terms of system/resource strain probably doesn't come close to D2, but I tried it, and it seems to run fine. Tried looking at a couple of other 'recommended' settings, but still the same thing. Was wondering if you wonderful folks had any thoughts on something else to take a look at? I can tell you that the FPS display dips as low as 17 in some cases before eventually locking up, but I'm not sure if that's related. I then upgraded my BIOS (this worked for a friend, apparently), and the game still locks up. System info: Intel Core i5-7600K Processor (3.8GHz) Asus Prime Z270-a ATX Motherboard 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 3000Mhz ram GTX 1060 Armor 6GB 250GB SSD (OS) 1TB SATA HDD (storage) 21.5" 1920X1080 (supports 60Hz) Any suggestions/advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
