The game’s loading times have gotten dramatically worse over the past months since that one update. Its super frustrating and easily takes away some of the fun.
EDIT: I’ve heard stuff about SSD’s improving loading times. As much as i don’t like how I feel like an SSD is so necessary for older gen consoles, I have started to consider getting one. If anyone could help me out with details on how they work, which ones work well, which ones are cheapest, etc., I would greatly appreciate it (I’m on xbox if that’s a necessary detail)

As others have said an external SSD is a great purchase for consoles. While it might not be near pc speeds for loading, it does load a lot quicker. Tested with a friend with dreaming city, i was able to run from spawn and into blind well before they spawned and they just have a standard Xbox one.

Dont give into the SSD bs...until Bungie comes out and says "console players need an SSd if they want the luxury PC players have with loading screens." CONSOLE LIFE IS TOUGH YO!

Bump, added edit

For people asking why some choose to stay on console: 1. Horizon Zero Dawn 2. Death Stranding 3. Spider-man 4. God of War Plus on my age i prefer to sit on a couch.

It's the old hardware. I play on Xbox One X and can tell who's got an OG Xbox One because I load into things way faster than they do. Unfortunately, it's just the way of things. Eventually they'll be tuning it for Scarlett and PS5 and the X and PS4 Pro will seem like they're crawling.

Edited by Kemaleon: 8/26/2019 8:20:44 AMI'd like the option to turn off the thumbnail pictures, seems to take ages for then to load so I'd rather just have lists. They could also move Clan, general settings, triumphs and collections to the Director, that would help the Inventory load quicker. We're getting Ghosts and Sparrows on the inventory screen when Shadowkeep arrives, can't help but feel thats just going to make it worse.

Because this console generation isnt going get faster buy a ssd or upgrade but. The hard ware is at its end. Unfortunately.
-
everybody is blaming bungie but the actual problem is the hard drive in the ps4, it's old technology now compared to the new solid state drives, no you shouldn't have to buy a new hard drive to improve load times but unfortunately it's the only way you are gonna improve it, theres is not much bungie can do about it, I have bought an ssd and not only as destiny 2 improved vastly but games like gta 5 and red dead 2 have also been improved greatly on load times so cant really just blame bungie as more so sony for the hardware they have used in the ps4

There are things that can be done to combat this, that will have an impact on the majority of games - switch to an SSD. The one I have installed - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B077SF8KMG?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Managerie as an example, I load in to roughly 15-20 seconds before anyone else. As graphics get better and games get bigger, load times will suffer. PC's have the advantage of CPU/GPU being "overpowered" and loading this stuff with ease, but Consoles don't, so it's up to you to do what you can to improve the Console performance. SSD is the easiest way.
-
They’re not talking about it because they’re still loading in

Edited by LordFastTrakz: 8/25/2019 4:47:30 PMWhen you initially trade off performance for convenience you really should not complain a few years down the line that you expect better performance when the generation of hardware is now old.
-
Well, if you could magically make the CPU and HDD faster you'll solve the issue
-
Consoles have 6-7 year old hardware and can’t compete with an up to date pc’s graphic power. Bungie can’t fix outdated processing units. They could and should test proper UI performance before introducing new customizations shennenigans but bottom of line is the current console generation is ancient. Move to PC master race.
-
Looks like a cache issue to me.
-
I got a Fantom Drive for my Xbox X - 2 TB SSD. it is magic, well worth the money..
-
I don't know. I just chalk it up to the game getting bigger and/or my older ps4. I just use the load times to get in a power nap before I keep going. It's rather refreshing.
-
Umm maybe because since that one update their is now more content to load? Y’all act like they can magically push a button and give us magical insta-loading times that far surpass the hardware struggles of our current generation
-
Its awful. I watch these guys on pc switch out weapons and armors mid gun fight so effing fast yet I can’t even get my inventory to load in the ten seconds I have to respawn. Wtf.
-
The thing I don’t understand is that when I used an external HDD on my friend’s pc to play destiny 2. It does not have any loading issues. It is way faster loading than console.
-
I think what you guys fundamentally don't understand is it is not really Bungie or Destiny 2's fault. It is your crappy console. I'm not trying to be a pc master race dude or whatever as I played a ton of D2 on console as well, but the fact of the matter is that the consoles are basically old, cheap, outdated hardware at this point. Computers are expensive and console manufacturers make a lot of trade-offs to fit decent hardware into a little box. For Bungie to reduce load times, they would basically have to either optimize their code (which they almost certainly already do) or literally remove things from the game. I think you guys would love if D2 loaded faster on console but I'm not sure how many would willingly sacrifice actual content for load speeds. On the other hand, the reason why consoles lose to pc in load times is the fact that the hardware often isn't even in the same ballpark. Of course a computer with the latest and greatest CPU, GPU, motherboard, ssd, etc is going to load things faster than hardware that is more or less the same as architecture as what was released in 2013. Yeah, they released pro versions of the consoles or w/e, but my ps4 pro still isn't even in the same league as my pc. It's a trade-off you make when you choose to buy and play on consoles. When next-gen ps5 and xboxTWO come out, they'll probably be pretty good bang-for-buck initially, but still be defeated by a newer pc. Then as time goes on, that difference will continue to get more dramatic until the ps6 xboxTHREE or w/e. The circle of console lifespans.

Gonna be worse now that character screens display your ghost and sparrow...
-
Wait a minute there ........ I’m still waiting for mine to load up ..... I guess it’s all the stupid little things gambit - crucible - rng or could it be those from certain countries that have shit Internet setup’s unlike those in australia😏
-
Because it's beating the proverbial dead horse....it's shyt, they know it, we know it, the end.
-
We did. Folks just gave up.
-
Ikr anthem got crucified over its loading times and nothing is said about d2 wich is equally is bad And yeh the ammount of toxic" get a pc " shtheads on this thread is unreal
-
Can u elaborate? I’m not having any issues with loading times.
