Why pay for shadowkeep? Free first light?

Ok so I'm totally confused here after I watched bungie's videos. Bungie can you please explain? We have to pay for shadowkeep upgrade if we want to go to the moon again and have custom mode gear etc. However I can be a totally new player (which I'm not) and get everything free and go right to playing with friends in gambit (which I had to buy a season pass for $30 to get when it came out) and other events??? Also no more exclusive exotics? What am I paying my hard earned money for? My whole family plays destiny 2. Me my husband and both of our kids. Why did I have to buy so much for us to play together and now its all gonna be free?? Please explain better than your video did cause as it sounds I shouldn't bother sinking $240 into new expansion for everyone. We all love destiny surely it was explained wrong in the video.

  • Not sure if it will work but if you are on playing on the same platform, have the account with shadow keep on each system. a = main account b=2nd account c= 3rd account pc1 = A pc2 = ab pc3 = ac

    • New Light Players need to purchase the corresponding DLC if they want Exotics, DLC Campaign Missions, Raids, all of the new content from Shadowkeep (armor, weapons, etc.)

      • New Light is only giving new players the base game + Curse of Osiris and Warmind expansions for free. Every DLC past that is not free to anybody. New players still have to buy Forsaken and Shadowkeep to play any of the exclusive activities from those expansions (raids, menagerie, reckoning, etc.) and the story missions/adventures. Shadowkeep is also the first and only expansion to not require owning previous expansions to play, which is why you don't have to have Forsaken or the Forsaken annual pass to get it.
which I had to buy a season pass for $30 to get when it came out
Gambit is not part of the annual pass and was added free for everybody when Forsaken launched, regardless of what DLCs they owned. Gambit Prime and the Reckoning are part of the annual pass and weren't free, a long with a whole lot of other things that New Light doesn't give.
What am I paying my hard earned money for?
You paid for years of playing a game you wanted to play before any of these new people. You got to play things first, for a lot longer, and you got some things that will never be available again.
Also no more exclusive exotics?
I haven't seen any mention of there are or aren't PS exclusives. TBA.

Now if you don't buy shadowkeep then any of that content is not playable for you. The first light is the base game and first two expansions. Any of the expansions must be purchased I believe. If you don't purchase shadowkeep you will just continue to have what you have now of course also with the new armor system.

        • Sounds like you and your family are saving $240 if you dont want to buy any of the new content.

          • Last I heard New Light only includes D2 vanilla, CoO & Warmind. Foresaken, annual pass stuff & Shadowkeep need to be purchased dlc. However, I believe all patrol areas will be accessible in New Light. Not sure how that's gonna work.

            • I and I’m sure many others contemplate to why we spend excessive amounts of money when prices are gonna be lowered in a few months time. However that is exactly the point. You’re paying more money to play the content earlier with more active players who are doing the same thing. It’s a live game that’s constantly getting updates and content added to it so it makes sense they charge it for a lower price when a majority of people have already experienced it. Take Escalation Protocol for example. There are probably a HUGE portion of the fanbase that are finished with it after having payed for Warmind. Asking people to pay for content that most of the fanbase barely care about any longer doesn’t make sense. Perhaps next year Forsaken and all of the AP will become entirely free and that’s ok.

            • Yeah, if you dont want to play the new content. You can just play some of the content for free. Its to bring new blood into the game and hopefully they sell some content too.

              • Ok so the new light content is gonna be limited and spotty. I know I am not the only one who is concerned but I haven't found too many specifics on it.
