WHY do you need MTX in a game that is considered a Triple A FULL PRICE release? Surely you have people at Bungie who are financially competent enough to do a basic cost analysis/breakdown of resources required for both the pre and post production of the product. I don’t know what’s worse, the fact you are blatantly pushing this fallacy by insistence of trying to convince everyone (read palm off) that the inclusion of MTX via Eververse IN A FULL PRICE TRIPLE A TITLE is not only required but that your customers should just accept this as a viable business model, or the fact that you think we should find it acceptable that the Whisper Ornament paid for the development of Zero Hour? Where did the money you earned from the sales of the game, plus all the DLC go? Dedicated Servers? Oh wait, it’s hybrid P2P which basically puts the majority of the overheads on the players internet.
This kind of smoke and mirrors BS reminds me of that Nigerian Prince that keeps calling with a promise of riches IF we just hand over our credit card/bank account details beforehand 🤔
IF you have to rely on MTX to create content for a Triple A FULL PRICE RELEASE which has PAID DLC then your business model is fundamentally flawed! Basic business sense dictates that those running the company have a high level of Financial Acumen. If you lack this you will continually make decisions that will lead to bad choices, wasted resources, missed opportunities and ultimately a disastrous outcome for your company and its employees/customers. This sounds all too familiar when reading about Bungie tbh. However, the whole forced justification of the “MTX pays for content” section when taken into context with the “developing content is hard” modus operandi actually says more about the behind the scenes at Bungie. Would you go to a restaurant that asked you to pay in advance for your meal, not knowing what was on the menu other than “food” and when you get there they ask you to stump up extra money for the electricity or the chef won’t be able to reheat the meals that was in the fridge from a few days ago. Oh and if you want a nice plate and the best cutlery you need to pay extra to the maitre d otherwise it’s paper plates and a plastic spork!? It stinks of a cash grab, and the whole facetious and disingenuous dangling of the “Zero Hour was paid for by said MTX ergo it’s fine carrot” is a joke, sadly being played on all of us who have financially supported this game. Let me clarify something: There is NO justification for MTX in a PREMIUM PAID PRODUCT with PAID for dlc, end of. Been with Destiny from the start and this is the first time I have NOT blindly pre ordered content. Sorry Luke, I’ve thrown enough money at the screen.

So how would they continue to support this game apart from the DLCs, which release every couple of MONTHS? Only having paid DLCs once a couple of months as a form of revenue is NOT enough money to develop and design this game. Your argument only holds when talking about games that AREN'T built as a live service.

  • Over 50 million copies of Destiny (1+2) sold. Well over $2 billion in sales, NOT including MTX. $100 million investment from NetEase. Yet they need MTX revenue to develop content? Also, what is this “live” bit. Destiny is built on a hybrid P2P networking model in which you’re the client-host meaning YOUR internet and console/PC runs most of the game.

  • Do you understand what a live service game is? It means that the game is supposed to last for YEARS, and you can't sustain such a game without MTX. That original money WILL dry up, and Bungie WILL need to make money again. Besides, the MTX aren't predatory, and they're COSMETICS. If you feel the need to dump more than $10 on COSMETICS, that's on you bud. Bungie needs money, especially since they're independent.

  • Hmmm, let me see.......is a live service where a company CREATES NEW CONTENT and then asks customers to buy said content by showcasing what they’ve made, and actually created something worth buying? Or is it where a company finds it hard to create content and expects the customer to pay money upfront in the hope they might be able to shoehorn some pieces of already created content together and THEN ask for them to pay even more for it?

  • That's your subjective opinion. I personally find this game enjoyable, so you can't base whether a live service game is categorized as such based on subjective opinion. That's laughable. This game is objectively, a live service game. It is updated every few months, and is sustainable off of non-predatory MTX. If Eververse was actually predatory, then we'd have a different story.

  • They want it both ways which is a -blam!-ing joke. Luke Smith admittedly BURNT HIS TEAM OUT. Blames the playerbase of course and took no accountability. Uses that excuse to legitimize microtrans... wow what a fatass moron.

Sorry bud. you're just plain wrong. On so many levels. This game is not a typical triple A, play it once and done game. It isn't Spider Man. It's essentially an MMORPG and unless is subscription based it's going to have MTX. Posts like this just boil my blood. I will never understand MTX haters. This idiotic notion that $60 you paid two years ago is supposed to cover all the content that will ever be released in the future is just that. If you think Luke Smith is just lying to you're face about where the money goes, why are you even here? Does he strike you as someone living on a mountain of money? If you truly believe that $60. and whatever subsequent annual pass cost there is covers development of all content, you're just not living in reality.

  • $60??? WTF are you smoking? At launch it cost that. Since then we had to pay for Curse of Osiris and Warmind, then Forsaken and 2 Annual passes and by the time Shadowkeep launches it’ll be over $200 and counting. To date there have been over 50 million copies of Destiny sold (both 1 and 2). So basic maths tells us one thing, they’ve made a shit ton of money out of the game and out of us. That’s NOT including money from MTX. Let’s say each copy sold for $40, that’s a minimum of $2billion in sales. Even accounting for tax, Activisions cut, Shareholders cut and subsidiary costs, there is NO WAY they don’t have a decent amount of financial resources left over. Now I don’t know about you, but IF this company is now claiming they need money from MTX to make content then I’m calling BS. There’s some serious financial irregularities at play here. Your blood should be boiling, but NOT at posts like this, it should be at the company who is taking us all for a fkn ride.

  • Well that’s the thing unfortunately, this will technically be a free-to-play Indie game now, meaning micro transactions are “fine”. I don’t like it, but that’s just the way it is

I don’t like it, but that’s just the way it is
Stop spreading misinformation. The game is not going F2P. New light is a F2P mode that only has content from D2Y1. Players still have to pay for Forsaken/AnnualPass/ShadowKeep//Future Seasonal Pass content. If you want to play a game that over a year old that part is free.

  • Why do you people keep saying that? The new DLC and future expansion WILL NOT be free and just because bungie is giving base content to noobs for free does not take away the money WE have put into it. So if all past releases have cost me full price AND all future releases will cost full price then THIS IS NOT A FREE TO PLAY GAME.

  • All destinations will be free from now on, all you’re paying for is end game content and campaign. Yes, it will be a F2P game

  • So everyone who bought the game full price should be refunded that in silver to compensate.

  • How can it be free to play if you have to buy it? Then to continue playing you are required to buy the annual pass, then pay for items (cosmetic or otherwise) from a MTX storefront, all with real money that cannot be earned in the game. I’m not sure you understand what free to play means 🤔

  • Exactly. The people saying it is free to play are either very gullible, blind fan boys, or work for bungie and are here spreading misinformation to the weak minded.

  • New light is only going to offer what is currently available at the moment, ie current strikes, current PvP, Gambit, planetary locations and associated bounties. Also the Leviathan and it’s raid layers. Nothing has been said about exotic bounties, but given Shattered Throne is required for Wishender then that’s out. Sure there’ll be a lot for those joining the game as new players to do, but IF you want to play Last Wish, Scourge, Crown or the new raid (which let’s face it, most of us do) then you’ll need to buy Forsaken/current annual pass and then buy Shadowkeep. Also, given there’ll be a character level booster I’m guessing the majority of New Light players will bypass most of the content and hit the “content wall” a lot quicker than we did. It’s more like “free to try” before you hit the “pay to play” barrier.
