So many times I lfg for high score Nightfalls, and so many times I see people using extinguish in an attempt to boost their score. There's no need for that. A run with extinguish blackout momentum and whatever singe will get you 2.2x points. But raising the power cap by 200, with blackout and momentum will give you 3.8x. You say raising the power cap by 200 is ridiculous? The base power in every nightfall is 540. Most players by now are at least above 740, if not 750. If you raise it by 200, you're still 10 power levels higher than all of the enemies. Add grounded to it, and that's 4.05x. That's an easy 220k on the Hollowed Lair Strike. Easy money, bro. I've tried to tell this to certain fireteams I've joined, and some of them go "Me know how strike points, scrub" out of nothing but stubborn pride. Don't do that. You're better than extinguish. You deserve better than extinguish. Raise that power level.
Sincerely,
-A concerned Warlock
Edit: Starting to get a little sick of people saying "Just don't die." That's easy enough when you're playing with a competent fireteam, but when you lfg with randoms or have friends that aren't so great at surviving for various reasons, when the rest of your fireteam dies, its really hard to stay alive when all enemies are targeting you. And no, a single wipe isn't going to ruin the score. 2 or 3 definitely will, but one won't, which makes the idea that if you wipe you may as well restart anyway entirely preposterous. I made this post for the purpose of helping out fireteams that seem to have difficulty surviving succeed in getting that 200k for Solstice. If you're that super fly, elitist pve god that solos 100k nightfalls with ease, you do you. No one's stopping you.

Extinguish should be always on and not optional like it was in destiny 1

I run my nightfalls with (Insert Burn of Choice Here), Grounded, Blackout, and Famine. We still get that smooth 100K, and just recently took care of that 200K masterwork in hallowed lair with the same modifiers. You don't need extinguish, just adapt to other modifiers and don't suck ass.
-
Yeah but extinguish has no negative
-
Lol how in the actual -blam!- are you fully team wiping in a nightfall activity?! This is a free bonus multiplier. Stop dying so much lmao.
-
2 Repliesran a 210 handicap, w/ momentum, match game, attrition which makes a 5x multiplier if you're solo run Hard light if not the everybody's got a burn
-
Yeah but if you wipe going for 200k the run is dead so you might as well have Extinguish on.
-
1 ReplyYup, no reason to run Extinguish ever. Higher multipliers with other modifiers. I don't know why people don't run momentum. If you keep running, you will continuously heal. You should always run momentum.
-
Thanks for the tips. 👍

1 ReplyYou nailed it. Ran Hollowed Lair with randos BUT had extinguish as one of the modifiers. Power level was -210 so we were at the 540 light. Almost 300K. Trash mobs were giving 535pts each if memory is correct.
-
No real reason not to do Extinguish, simply because if you die and have to restart an encounter, you'll probably exceed the 20-minute limit and have your score start decreasing, losing your 200k run. Since the penalty for all three of you dying is essentially the same, it's basically a free modifier boost.
-
4 RepliesSo in other words you're bad

Extinguish is used a lot for high scores because it basically does nothing as long as you don't wipe. I can see your point, but there's usually no reason not to use it unless your team isn't that good. Plus, if you die and don't wipe, that's already harming your score. If you truly want a high score, extinguish makes a lot of sense.
-
Because Extinguish does literally nothing if you don’t die ;). It doesn’t make the nightfall any intrinsically harder.
-
Extinguish is the highest modifier after Match Game and Blackout, adding a 0.3x to your card. Most others give 0.25x and Momentum even only gives 0.15x. Not only that, but it does literally nothing to negatively impact you if you're running with even a half decent team.
-
3 RepliesAgreed. At least put it in your LFG post, so I can avoid it, and save me the trouble of leaving your team when it’s unannounced and I find out after joining. We did that nonsense already in D1. It was hell, and I’m sure it built all sorts of character but we don’t have to have it now. There’s enough stress in life already, no need to add more if it unnecessarily.

1 ReplyWe just run handicap 220 and a singe. Easy 100k
-
Nah 200 handicap with extinguish, matchgame, and blackout. Ezclap 100k
-
Agreed I never bother with extinguish. Personally when I set up 100k nightfalls, I go with the element, match game, iron and a 140 handicap. Should give a 4x multiplier. I make sure to use Borealis everytime and conserve ammo for shields. If you can get past using it, it's an easy 100k every time. For the 200k nightfall for solstice, I just cranked up the handicap to 210.

3 RepliesWe do it for a challenge you didn't play d1 nightfalls huh?
