Do you play Destiny for fun? Or because it’s like a second job?

For Fun

It’s Like a Second Job!

Both?

I ask this question, only because of the recent forum posts about Solstice of Heroes event. Me personally, I think this game would be better if a lot of the grind was removed. But that’s just me.

For fun, but since I hit 750 on all three characters I have zero urge to play right now. Why bother getting gear sets when in two months its all going to be worth less than blues ??, why bother with the same strikes we have been doing for a year at least ??, why bother hitting all the milestones we have done EVERY WEEK for a year yet again when I can be playing games like the Witcher, Red Dead, Horizon etc etc that actually reward my time ?? If you enjoy pointless grind this game is fun, if you enjoy fun then this game is a pointless grind. Bungie seem to have lost sight of the fact that people play for fun, instead we get treated like hamsters on a wheel that is getting faster and faster but going nowhere. And paying for the privilege. Unless I see some serious changes of direction in Shadowkeep it will be easy to move on. Lots of my mates already have and I genuinely believe that this game is explicitly designed to exploit people's compulsive tendencies in a manipulative way.

I'm addicted. It filled a void when I quit gambling and drinking 6 years ago. The game is a mess, but its cheap and fills my time.

    • Both. There are times where I really do enjoy Destiny because it is fun. Then there are times where it does feel like a chore, like grinding out a pinnacle weapon or like the solstice gear. Weapons at least have the carryover from season to season so I really have the option to hit the grind when I have spare time, which is nice. Unlike the solstice gear I know I only have so much time to complete it and I have to dedicate time to the grind and that makes it feel like a job. Then there are times where the game design is so poor/unfair that it is not even worth it,looking at you reckoning. Which in those instances I don’t complain on the forums, reddit or other social media. I just put the game down and take a hiatus for an indefinite amount of time. The latest one was when BA dropped and I couldn’t beat the first forge because the power level was too high for a 600. I have came back since then a few weeks into the season of opulence. It’s nice to see several QoL improvements since I have come back, but some things still need a lot of work. All in all I play what I like to play and participate in other activities solely for the purpose of completing something, yet at the same time not &@$%# about Bungie “forcing” me to play something I don’t like. If I feel strong enough about it then, as I mentioned above, I will put the game down for awhile and come back later.

    • D2 isn’t a hobby, it’s a full time job with mandatory overtime that pays you in lottery tickets.

      • It's hard at times playing for fun when looking at how not much has changed in 2 years. I used to run the raids a lot in D1 because of what they offered. That was fun for me because there were things to chase and IMO the raids were designed better. D2 has things set up similar as D1 but it's lacking vs D1. There are only so many times I can run the repetitive content just for fun without any form of rewards. Looter shooters are usually designed to have loot to chase and without that the game becomes boring and when you overdo the grind it becomes annoying.

        • I spite played for a week grinding gambit for that machine gun. I also spite played getting the soltice armor on my titan done. After I turned the game off I realized that I havent played the game for fun since Forsaken released.

        • For fun. If I could just pvp and raid that would be awesome. Maybe a few strikes here and there and new story line missions. The light level grinds and empty quests of just killing certain numbers of enemies is the part of the game I dont like.

        • It's always been a mix of both, but D2 has definitely put like 80-90% of the motivation towards the job end of the scale. Which makes sense, since Bungie has practically catered D2 to the streaming community who put in 15 hours a day on the game and force the 98% majority to play like that for anything of value in the game.

        • I play for fun, which is why I’m not grinding the armor. If it happens by accident then cool. I’m not going to force it.

        • Destiny grind: Usually a sequence of basic, monotonous and excessive objectives that irritate a large proportion of the player base.

          • If they got rid of the crucible it would be purely Fun. Unfortunately, Shaxx did not die as he should have in the Forsaken storyline. He could have easily been replaced by the Drifter.

              • The game has gotten to a point where it takes so much time I don't have time for other games as I work and have a family. I don't enjoy myself when I'm playing as quest steps are repetitive, boring and time consuming. So after the 2nd iron banner this season burned me out I've just been playing other stuff. I'm just kinda waiting to see if shadowkeep is any good now.

              • This is, bar none, the stupidest question I've ever seen on this forum. Why tf would anyone bother with a game if it was tantamount to having a second job that you don't get paid for? If you're having a miserable time playing you seriously need to quit. I haven't touched the blue armor because I have a variety of other things I would rather do (mainly hanging out with friends and playing Dark Souls). Pull it together people.

                • I learned this ancient technique from a Tibetan monk that helps me not feel like playing a video game is a job It took me 77 years to fully master it. When I'm not having fun, or the game requires me to do something I don't want.... I just stop playing It's not easy, and I judging by the comments in this thread, most people will probably never understand the complexity of this technique

                  • I play to have fun and any time an activity turns into a chore I will not play it anymore. I like the game but Bungie really does not respect the player base. I really don't like grinding for guns that I had and Bungie took away just to spoon feed them back to us (I am waiting for the player base to drop low enough for them to bring back the Gjallarhorn). According to wastedondestiny.com I played 1669 hrs (Top 10%) and Destiny 2 just 616 hrs, maybe I dont find as many fun things to do in Destiny 2. Maybe ShadowKeep will be better?

Now that bungie amped up the grind, you are all starting to see what many of us knew a long time ago. This is suppose to be fun, not a second job that you don't get paid for. A little grind was cool for you but as you see, for some of us, even the smaller grinding was annoying and unrewarding. So what do they do, amp up the grind cause it seems they got us by the short and curries.

                    • The game use to be so fun to me it would never feel like a job. Then Destiny 2 released and it's gotten worse and worse. Unrewarding and unexciting grind alongside unexciting game modes. Now all of it just feels like a chore so I just don't play at all.

                    • I play it because I like the gun play and the world building. It feels like a second job and the fun has left this game a long time ago.

                      • I couldn't even play Everquest/EQ2 or WOW for five years. It's just too much of the same boring grind. Same goes for this game. Sorry Bungie, I don't want to go back to the moon and fight the Hive again just to be rewarded with gear that isn't really any better than what I already have. (yes I know armor is changing, but chasing T12 just doesn't have the same appeal it did 3 years ago)
