I'd recommend going to normal/TVHM mode and grinding for Magic Missile in Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. Slag is absolutely necessary in UVHM, and since it's a spell it regenerates over time.

I have a spiker with 20% slag chance. It doesn’t help

That's why you should get Magic Missile, they (almost) guarantee slag

That's just a problem with your build then. If your gear is on level and your build is somewhat optimized the game shouldn't be particularly challenging early on, other than Captain Flynt.

I have [url=https://borderlands.fandom.com/wiki/Pimpernel]one of the best B0re snipers in the game[/url], Infinity, a god roll Unicornsplosions some nice OP 10 guy gave me, and that slag spiker. Their all level 50. I’m 53. Nothing has dropped so far that has better stats than my stuff. I am unable to outdamage most enemies even if I slag them [i]and[/i] mark them for death with Zer0’s Cunning tree. What else can I do to optimize my build?

I'm not too familiar with Zero, so I can't really give any build advice. You might wanna look up some build guides. I struggled with Krieg until I found a good build online.

Most of Zer0’s “builds” are literally just “use B0re and a sniper rifle”
