Fallout Plays made a video on shotgun barrel length affecting OHK range and, spoiler alert...
IT DOES
Honestly this wouldn’t be a big deal if the ornament for Chaperone, which comes from Eververse mind you, didn’t make it have an even crazier OHK range than it already does. Now, this is nothing to go crazy over, the difference is VERY minor, we’re talking 0.5m-1m difference. But still, c’mon Bungie, we don’t want you following in the footsteps of Battlefront 2.

17 RepliesIf true regardless of how small or large the range increase is this is precedent setting. You can now purchase items via Eververse beyond cosmetic that affect how guns(in this case) perform. Those that say relax need to re-evaluate. This is the start of pay to win. There’s no denying it. D2 Shadowkeep will be pay to win. There you go. I said it. Care to reply Bungie?

tested one austinger with the ornament that make it longer and
it was the same
3 RepliesEdited by Freak: 7/27/2019 1:08:43 AMIs it really that hard to believe? Take the Mida for example. The sight actually changes with a few different ornaments from a triangular reticle to a Red dot Reticle. Which to me makes all the difference in the world. Now back to the Chaperone. It’s like 1-2% range increase. So an extra foot? It’s not game breaking. What fallout didn’t show was how little he had to move get it to actually matter between the 2. In real gameplay you’re probably never going to hit that threshold just right. Even if you do it’s one kill out of how many? LoL this isnt a big deal at all. And honestly you need to do more test shots to get a baseline. And more from the new range to test consistency. So length matters... this isn’t news. My wife has been screaming this for years now!!!

Soooo I don’t see many chaperone users and when I do they are usually good with them.

4 RepliesOne of the Telesto ornaments adds an extra bolt. We've known about that one for a while now but this is the first I've heard of the Chaperone thing. There's a hidden perk with the Hardlight catalyst that's pretty ridiculous once you figure out what it is. Pretty sure that one is unintended so that's all I'll say on that one. There's always been lots of secret stuff like this in Destiny.
-
12 RepliesAnd they say cosmetics don't affect the game. The sights on the Bad Juju ornaments are much cleaner and take away all those bones that get in the way.
-
Some of you guys really like jumping to conclusions.
-
3 RepliesYou're greatly exaggerating the added range. It's not even 0.5m it may be 0.1m extra range which is literally a few inches.
-
8 RepliesThis is a non issue... It increases the damage by 4... Stop blowing things out preportion The chances of this actually being viable is minute so chill with OTT post
-
4 RepliesThis is actually funny. We all said it back when eververse dropped that this is a bad sign. And here they are selling items that genuinely improve performance.
-
1 ReplyThis explains why whenever i use the Chaperone with that ornament it feels so good
-
2 RepliesEdited by superskybro: 7/27/2019 12:24:34 PMWhy in the world would an ornament increase the range of a gun? I feel like that would take more work to implement
-
2 RepliesEdited by [[BIG SHOT]]: 7/27/2019 11:48:55 AMI’ve used the ornament on Chaperone long before this was discovered. I thought it looked cool so I thought I’d run it constantly. Now that I know it’ll provide an advantage I’m taking it off and using Guardian Angel. Do not want this to be a burden on me if it gets patched, which I know it will.

Wow the amount of salt in here is delicious

I saw the video we have one option. NERF SHOTGUNS!!!

8 RepliesYikes... I hope that this was a mere oversight/misunderstanding on their part... a P2W Destiny would not be a good thing at all.
-
Longer barrels increase range!?! Oh no it's almost like that's what barrel length helps anyway
-
This game is heading in exactly the same direction as battlefront 2
-
12 RepliesThats pretty funny. Inb4 someone starts screeching about P2W
-
3 Replies
we don’t want you following in the footsteps of Battlefront 2.
That alone makes me aware that you obviously didn't pay any attention to battlefront 2 and only watched the Overblown Microtransaction Controversy. It's a damn shame that people will hate something just because there are so many people screaming their heads off about one thing that doesn't even affect gameplay.

Well any game designer knows how Instances are created. We put the origin point for prohectiles at the center of the gun design. But Bungie, as clever as they are, put the spawn point at the end of the guns barrel, so what ever weapon you find with a longer barrel will add that much range to the weapon. It works on HC, Scouts, autos, every weapon pretty much in Destiny due to this flaw in design
-
Don't blow his video out of proportion. The increase is negligible. And even he says that in actual Crucible, that much of a difference wouldn't even be noticeable. Also, it's not just Chaperone. Any shotgun that has a longer barrel has a tiny bit longer OHK range when compared to a shotgun of similar stats.
-
That’s cool

1 ReplySo it begins.......

Barrel length affects range who woulda thunk .... i mean did people really need a video for this ?
