So I’m mildly obsessed with stats within D2. Don’t ask me why, LOL, I just like tracking my progress especially within crucible. i don’t think anyone (outside of Bungie, obviously) really knows how crucible matchmaking is set up within this game. My team and I were trying grind some Iron Banner but we kept getting pounded match after match. We finally called it quits after losing like 10 games in a row while going negative in almost every match, which is super, super rare for us. We all have 1.25+ overall KDs and tons of time in crucible. I started noticing the ELO averages of each team and I found it very interesting.
In almost every single game (80-90%) the team with the highest ELO would win. There were some rare instances where the lower ranked team would win but it doesn’t happen all that often. This makes it appear that an algorithm of some kind is predetermining the outcome of almost every match.

Also, I believe that given the evidence and the flat out obvious responses given by the Destiny 2 developers that indicate that this game was intended to be designed as a drug more than a game, we should question if (like loot boxes being designed like gambling) if such a game philosophy such as behavioral game design should even be legal.
-
Yes. Matchmaking is rigged. They designed the matchmaking system using behavioral psychology. A lot of the mechanics were designed with such a philosophy. It's called "Behavioral Game Design". One example of this is how people early on during D2's initial release realized that if you stood still during story missions, you were basically invincible. The game actually became more difficult the harder you tried. This is an example of variable difficulty levels that the game uses to even the playing field for lesser skilled players. But technically, any hidden mechanics could be used to even the playing field or manipulate players into becoming addicted to the game. This is the reason why a lot of people have suggested that the reason why Bungie keeps such mechanics hidden and doesn't go into great detail about how they work, is because they are designed to manipulate players into coming back for more. It's basically designed more like a digital drug. They try to pretend like hidden mechanics like the depreciating returns on XP to encourage people to buy engrams is unintentional. You would be naive to believe that. My suggestion is that if you do not enjoy the idea of being manipulated using psychology, don't play Destiny 2.

It is absolutely rigged and someone from bungie spelled it out awhile back. They want to keep win/loss at 50/50. Meaning they stack the odds in favor or against you to do so. The only time I've ever seen the pattern break is when playing with a full team of my ungodly skilled clanmates.
-
I have noticed the same on all playlists and I’ve also tracked few players not in my team and same trend there.
-
Pvp is absolutely rubbish anyway not even fun to play I mean watching people popping heads from behind walls or being unable to engage in a gun war because you just get team shot or some idiot running round with jotunns and grenade launchers or a team full of unlimited supers honestly it’s the worse pvp experience I have ever had on a game and it’s the most unbalanced and there’s me thinking games were made for fun but nowadays there all going down hill one reason being they all keep making it for esports and I noticed it with every shooter game the map designs become garbage if you want an e.g go have a gander at halo 5 because that is a funny one I tell you they ain’t even maps 😂 I can’t remember last time I had fun on a pvp shooter it was probably halo reach or black ops 1 I’m starting to feel depressed with games now
-
Dude let me tell you. Players running around invisible for most of the game. Players not taking damage after the initial hit. Players taking supers to the face and killing you. Players running around like they are in fast forward going through walls and ending up behind you for the kill. Players running around getting one hit kills with crappy pulse rifles. I’ve seen about everything you could imagine on Xbox and yes it sucks because I can’t even get my k/d up to 1.0 and when I check players that end up with 40 kills and they have a .60 k/d it’s infuriating. I don’t know whether it’s lag, cheaters or a combination of both but IB brings out the worst of them every time.
-
Sadly it is.
-
4 RepliesI feel like the longer you play without going to orbit the better it gets. As players leave and are replaced.
-
11 RepliesI wouldn’t put it past them. They are caught on record implementing shady tactics like XP throttling, silently doubling the XP required to level after unthrottling, paywalling paid game content (like prestige raids/nightfall/eververse), etc.
-
2 RepliesIf you can go back and find the discussion from 2013 or 2014 where bungie talks about pvp and how people don't want to loose all the time. They do discuss that they want to have most people with a 50/50 win loss ratio, they literally tell us that matches will be rigged for people to win or loose, they are interfereing with the likelyhood of the win or lose and not only set up lopsided teams but, also, during the actual match which we do see now and then, a team is far behind and then all of a sudden, your team cant hit anything and the other team gets 70 points and wins. I can understand setting the teams up for potential wins or losses and leaving it up to the teams to decide but, to interfere in the actual game play during the match really is dissapointing to have read. I wish I could find the article again.

Edited by ScottF 2112: 7/26/2019 7:54:34 PMRemember easy it was to manipulate SRL matchmaking? With SRL people figured out and posted all over that the way to get the wins you needed for a triumph (or book or whatever) was to make sure you were last in any race you didn't win. This absolutely worked. Once I started making sure I was last in any race I didn't win, I'd get progressively easier matches until I could win. SRL was essentially solo, so it was really easy to see how the matchmaking worked. SRL also had typical racing game catch up mechanics. Regular PVP is almost certainly similar. For example, spawns can easily be manipulated by the game to help or hurt a team. Remember this isn't Ender's Game where we are getting selected to win a real war. It is a video game where the goal is to keep people playing.

41 RepliesIts blatantly obvious that the outcome is determined prior to the match in the majority of matches. Just look at some of the things the game will do if you're on the team that's not "supposed" to win. Drop players, turn your shots off, straight up turn off damage on things like Wardcliff and supers, if your connection is bad it will put you on blackscreen, etc. Any time a player magically dissappears when the game is close go look at DT and see which team had the higher chance of winning. The fact that stuff like this happens so much is proof that the 50/50 thing needs to go. And it needs to go for more people than just those in the top 1-2% of players.

The banner matchmaking is way worse than normal quick play. Its mad that these days pvp numbers actually go down when banner is on.

2 RepliesMy Comp matchmaking now seems to crawl from 1-4 then like magic the counter will jump to 8 looking like it's going out of it's way to match solos against stacks. My tinfoil hat theory? Bungie got rid of Trials to funnel all those fireteams in to Comp for easy stack wins vs solos. Why else would they get rid of Trials? None of the problems Trials faced got fixed other than people complaining about ''sweaty games'' and if you forced people to make fireteams before they entered Comp then the mode would be dead. So Bungie just allowed solos in to Comp and prioritised stacks to go against them sounds crazy (and most probably is) but this matchmaking is nonsensical. I'm bad at Comp barely breaking even in K/D but there is no way every person in any given match is the same skill level or Glory rank. It just feels like the game is trying to find players as quickly as possible to start the game rather than actually taking Glory rank in to account and matching players with equal points with / against each other.
-
1 ReplyI'm often amazed at how much of a difference there is between teams. I've been grinding a lot of competitive trying to get the stupid pinnacle weapons, and I'd say a solid 80% or more matches are very one-sided. You'll see one team with 2-3 players with well over 20 kills and a 2.0+ KDA ratio, while the losing team has maybe 10 kills each and less than a 1.0 KDA. I've actually finished several matches with a teammate that has less than 5 kills when they have not been AFK at all.... How do you pair someone than can get less than 5 kills against someone who's running more than 30... Obviously, it's not connection-based because you run into a ton of lag and red bars, so what the hell is it based on?
-
50/50 win/lose algorithm...nuff said.
-
Well duh it's rigged. Bungie loves both streamers and the idea of friends pvping together, but they also know that these players would rather just stomp the competition rather than a real challenge. So they designed the matchmaking algorith to put all the teams against the solo players. In the case most players are playing solo they put all the best players on one team.
-
2 RepliesI noticed this to on destiny tracker that the team with the higher elo won almost every game. So the game basically decides your win ratio by the team mates it gives you. Sometimes you can god mode it and carry the whole game but for the most part your fate is pre decided lol.
-
I’ve been losing more than winning recently. I’ve been playing people way better than I am.
-
1 ReplyYou may as well forget about stats. They don't mean shit. I was diamond elo in IB two days ago after an 11 game win streak and a bunch of other wins besides. Then I lost a few squeakers in a row... elo from losses were much larger than from wins.. like +15 for a win and -80 for a loss by the same amount. Then the kicker... matchmaking throws me in a losing match that's half over and everyone is spamming supers. I know I have no chance so I leave... guess what? -103 elo for a game I was only in for 10 seconds or so. Destinytracker used to be a good site in D1. Now it's just geared towards rewarding stacked teams only. My guess is whoever owns the site only plays on stacked teams and likes to inflate his ego.

Dude, this has been a thing from the beginning; no matter what they say, people start taking way more damage, missing shots, etc. I'd play other games for PvP, if you're looking for a legit experience.
-
lol! Of course it’s rigged. The “Damage Ref” program out front should have told you. Destiny is just running too many programs in the background that were developed in an attempt to keep all players regardless of skill at around a 50% W/L record. They flat out admitted that goal. There is actually zero competitive/balanced value to Destiny PvP and you just have to accept that the game will be dictating the wins and losses for average players. Disregarding the incredibly rare occasion...the large majority of Destiny PvP matches are decided within the first 10-15 seconds of the start.
-
Now I can see why players lag switch, it's to break the algorithm holding them back from getting their wins! I ain't saying it's right, because it ain't. What Bungie's doing is straight up WRONG by rigging the games! There's no place at all for DDosing! There's no place for lag switching either!

Edited by Fibby: 7/27/2019 2:15:13 PMThis game has some of the worst matchmaking i've ever seen.... The mix between connection quality and skill in a P2P-game like this only manages to create constant lag issues, it might not be game breaking or even extensive in every lobby but it is there almost every game if you closely pay attention to what is happening, and its been going on since D1. Doesn't matter what time of day i play, what playlist i'm in, who i'm playing with, or that i'm wired with a fibre optic connection, in nearly every match i end up dying to players who do not take damage properly. There seems to be very little or no geolocation at all as it is common to get games where the players are from 2 to 3 different continents, the netcode also seems to heavily favor the players who are on high pings, and team balancing is done very poorly so that even in playlists that have a high emphasis on skill (IB for example) most matches are completely one sided stomps even if there are no large pre-made fireteams in the lobby.
-
I'd agree with the matchmaking rigged. Looked at Roster and two teams of 3 were put together, and i was put with solo players. Who got stomped, the ones who didn't have any communication....
-
1 ReplyYou're basically describing skill based matchmaking.
