I have some questions.

Question 1: How did Cayde-6’s ghost die. It was shot with a bullet then went boom. Our ghost is sometimes shot by the AI, and it doesn’t die? Question 2: Why did the dude with The Last Word kill Drifter’s buddy? Question 3: Why was the player the only one in the vanilla campaign to get their light back, couldn’t the other guardians do the same, and if so why didn’t they? That’s about it for now. If you know the answers to any of these I’d love to know!

(not sure). 3: There is a pretty large chunk of the Traveler out there. Or the burst of light gave the powers back.

  • 1. Ghost are permanently killed with bullets that drain the light (that’s what that bullet was) any other bullet would have deactivated them like with sagira. Ghost seem to be hard to destroy but easy to damage and repair (only if small damage is done) 2. Shin and Callum (Drifter’s buddy) both agreed to do it. Shin founded the shadows of Yor (find a byf video on it) to understand the thin line between light and dark. Callum created a rogue faction of the shadows to draw out those who wanted to pursue the darkness fully so Shin could kill them. Callum let Shin kill him to send a message to those who want to step into the darkness. 3. Hard to say. Most likely because video game.

  • To answer question three according to the drifters dialogue at the end of his sides story he mentions other guardians just like you. Meaning cannon wise there where a lot of guardians who got there light back. (Those guardians are called snitches , and snitches get stitches)

    • In canon ghost can die when taken to much damage. It doesn’t happen in gameplay because the game would be hard as hell. Also the ai are terrible shots. The dude with the last word is named shin Malphur, and it’s a bit complicated. I suggest reading up on the shadow of yor lore if you want the full explanation.
Short explanation is that shin is secretly a shadow of yor, and killed drifter’s buddy as a sacrifice to lure out the other shadows of yor that were corrupted so he could kill them
Our guardian was the only one to gain back the light because the traveler reached out to us with the shard for unknown reasons lore wise. Real reason is we are the protagonist and a chosen one or something. (It seems like lazy writing to me)

    • Good questions.
Question 1: How did Cayde-6’s ghost die. It was shot with a bullet then went boom. Our ghost is sometimes shot by the AI, and it doesn’t die?
OUR Ghost gets shot and doesn’t die because it’s a video game. That has nothing to do with lore. Canonically, our Ghost hasn’t been harmed, we haven’t died in Darkness zones, and Hobgoblins don’t t-bag people in the Vault of Glass. Many Ghosts have been killed or damaged by bullets, knives, claws, swords, etc. in lore, and the same would happen to our Ghost if Bungie decided to have our Ghost get hit in lore.
Question 2: Why did the dude with The Last Word kill Drifter’s buddy?
Ari Bray gave a great answer to that in their comment.
Question 3: Why was the player the only one in the vanilla campaign to get their light back, couldn’t the other guardians do the same, and if so why didn’t they?
It’s part of the story. We, the protagonist, are more special than other Guardians (we are Crota’s Bane, Young Wolf, Oryx’s and Skolas’ Slayer, etc.), and the Traveler chose us specifically to regain the Light before the Traveler broke its cage. Supposedly no other Guardian could have gotten the Light back. So, yeah, “Look at me, I’m the protagonist, I’m awesomer than all y’all lol!”

        • 1. Cayde's Ghost was shot with a Devourer bullet, which drains light. At the moment it is speculated that the Scorn pulled their recourses together to get 1 bullet. 2. A necessary sacrifice to draw out the Shadows of Yor so Shin can finish them off, he then had a plan to create Malfeasence with Drifter to gauge Guardians in Gambit, if they hungered for more power Shin would take them down. 3. Ikora tried going to the Shard but nothing happened. The Traveler chose us, and chooses to speak to us.

1: The bullet that killed Cayde's ghost was special, in that it was infused with the Darkness, much like Thorns rounds are. Also, we're playing a video game, our ghost could get nuked and still be standing, unless Bungie decides otherwise. 3: I'm... not exactly sure on this one. Up to Bungie to cover this plot hole. I'd chalk it up to just us being the 'chosen one' and thus the guy all the lucky shit happens to. And theoretically, I see no reason why other guardians couldn't do what we did and get their light back.

            • The answer to all 3 is because video game, and the more specific lore for 1 and 2 is in the lore for malfeasance and seasons of the drifter.

They drain the light from their targets making reussurection impossible. Answer 2: callum strayed to close to the darkness, and paid the price. Answer 3: lazy writing.

Callum was messing with the darkness and shin didn’t like that 2. I don’t think our guardian bothered to tell the rest about the shard of the traveler. The shard might’ve not been strong enough to supply a bunch of guardians. Hoped this helped!

              • <1. Any Ghost can die. Plot is why we or Ghost haven't died yet. Otherwise this game would be over very quickly considering the Fallen have good aim, the Hive have their Darkness Zones, the Vex are smart, and the Cabal are strong. Don't even get me started on the Taken. 2. Callum was chosen by Shin to represent the Guardians who take the title of Dredgen too seriously. Callum pretended to be insane and spread propaganda to draw them out. The true Shadows of Yor began systematically hunting them down and once Callum was "killed" (more like sacrificed, his Ghost safe and hidden), they left. They entrust us with keeping the idea of balance alive and silencing those who mistake the Darkness as salvation. 3. The Traveler chose us. It knows all we've done to protect her and humanity. We are the Traveler's Chosen.>
