Now before all you hunters go "BUT THROWING KNIFE-" just hear me out. Ball lightning is a real natural phenomena, and for the most part it behaves the same way in Destiny as it does IRL. Theres just one difference: it usually EXPLODES! Ball Lightning is such a bad melee because at close range it's like the voidwalker melee without the grenade regen (in terms of damage and utility) and at long range its basically a throwable fart. Killing just TWO enemies with ball lightning could be considered a one in a million shot, since it has an insanely low blast radius. The slow speed, poorly defined range, and total lack of any homing make this a very difficult melee to use at a distance. Most of the time youll throw it only to have it miss and hit the floor, or fizzle out before it reaches the target, or get secret-serviced by a trash mob before it could reach the Gladiator. Even when it does hit it deals hardly any damage. It can oneshot most trash mobs in strikes but literally anything above red bar will just shrug it off. Now to be clear, i'm fine with it being weak in PVP. We all remember the stormcaller meta in D1 due to their absurd melee range. However, i find its performance in PVE INEXCUSABLY poor. It doesnt do basically anything. I have some options for how to buff Ball Lightning to where it wont suck: 1. Kills with ball lightning are guaranteed to spawn an ionic trace 2. Multikills with ball lightning instantly recharge it 3. Ball Lightning explodes on contact, dealing heavy damage in a small area 4. Ball Lightning explodes on contact, chaining lightning to nearby enemies 5. Ball Lightning blinds on contact and has increased range and speed 6. Hits with Ball Lightning significantly reduce arc damage from all sources for a short time (10 seconds)
