Veteran dialogue toggle for PC

I know I am very late to this particular party since I had not even known this was a thing until I saw a video on it today but... I have noticed that if you played D1 on PS4 or X1 and go into D2 that there is subtle dialogue changes that acknowledge past encounters like Ghost recognising the fallen banner in the EDZ as being of House Judgement, when Shaxx refers to you as 'Saladin's young wolf' or you already knowing information about Fallen, Vex etc. However unless I am mistaken if anyone on those platforms chooses to go to PC and even if they have both their console and PC accounts linked on Bungie.net that they don't get any of this dialogue. This is a shame cause people who are veterans going to PC get the same dialogue as new players. Do you think we could get some kind of toggle or such that allows for players to hear the veteran dialogue, it's a small thing yes but I feel like it feels more rewarding and familiar to have characters in-game be able to recognise past accomplishments from veteran players.

  • I did the New Light quest simply because I wanted to complete the last achievement I needed for 100%, but I learned too late it was a mistake. Now, I feel pretty mixed as I feel like I'm talked down to, having done big accomplishments everywhere. Once in awhile I still get veteran dialogue, but it socks me back in the face as suddenly my ghost doesn't recognize places I've clearly been to before already. I used to enjoy hanging out near Shaw Han, watching the newbie figure things out and listening Shaw just mention us as old timers. Now he just treats me as if I'm new to being a guardian- Like OP said, it feels like everything I've done so far is for naught now. :/

  • Bumping this in October of 2020. Before Beyond Light drops, I would like to reiterate and reinforce this request. I know my individual situation is rare, but it has happened to a lot of Guardians out there. I purchased D1 on Xbox 360. I played through all of the content, even got triumpths done before the release of D2. When pre-orders came out for D2, and details of what would be carried over, as well as the migration ... I was gifted a PS4, and had no money to buy an XBone. With the Playstation exclusives and the promotional ads in my face everywhere ... I didn't want to wait for an XBone to play Destiny 2 at release. Thus all of my progress, triumpths, and veteran dialogue was replaced with lines that always irked me and made me feel forgotten, unaccomplished, and as if all my efforts and exploits were for naught. It was the occasional line, and it was only later that I had heard the veteran lines that sparked an envy of those who had made the journey on the same platform. Having played D1 with only two friends, who were fortunate enough to have both consoles immediately they would play on and off with me on PS4 but ended just quitting entirely. That was when disaster struck. Without getting too personal, I lost my PS4 to blunt force trauma inflicted by a violent person. I had already started over once, and recently talked to a friend about having them build me a PC. So i repurchased the game in the blizzard store. Pushed through all the content I had done before, but with no friends to raid, and none of the eververse stuff I had on PS4. Missing out on season specifics, etc. Cross save was enabled and I recently got back into Destiny after giving up a while back due to having to friends to play with. I looked through the Cross Save options of my accounts, and realized i had more triumpth progress, higher light, etc on my PC account. So I had less to catch up on before the Content Vault. Playing Shadowkeep for the first time, hearing Eris say "Another Guardian" in reference to Crota's End and the occasional reminder that my old Guardian "isn't" me. I have to say it sucks. Now with the Exo Stranger coming int othe fray, I fear that she too will have references that act as though all the time spent fodnly playing D1 on Xb360 will be omitted. So I come here to implore you Bungie, please enable veteran dialogue. Look, i'd ask for account wide eververse unlocks(Death To Kells has yet to drop for me on PC, I have a fallen themed Exo Hunter for a RP reason but no Fallen Skiff). Ive bought the game twice, grinded up to current content, and am completely okay with that. Circumstances beyond my control lead to those events but I love the game and want to keep coming back. But D1 was my golden age, when all my friends played. When I was stress free and ignorant of the way the world cab be sometimes. I wanna feel like my Guardian of old, from D1 has been there along with me. Not forgotten, and enduring still. So I just ask, for a little toggle in the gameplay settings, to swap the audio Veteran Mode or New Light. Maybe Pre-Shadowkeep status is a good requisite? Could also be an opporunity to enable "masculine" or "feminine" pronouns or something for those who care about that? For Drifter to say "sister" or "brother" accordingly(as well as any other instances of pronoun use). Anyway, thanks for reading! TL;DR - Veteran Dialogue Toggle in settings for pre-shadowkeep players.

      • Could be a thing like The Witcher 3. If you never played 1 and 2, they make a npc "ask" some questions and you can choose what you did/did not.

      • Bungie has been ignoring this request since day 1. I doubt they will suddenly decided to do the right thing now. It is really frustrating though that Bungie refuses to allow vet dialogue on PC. The non-vet dialogue is extremely cringy and forced in most situations.

      • Why is veteran dialogue even a thing? For all intents and purposes, we are THE Guardian from D1, whether we played it or not. Why would Zavala say we've slain gods in the Black Garden in The Inverted Spire strike, if we weren't? There's no veteran dialogue there.

      • This and the community is why I don’t play on PC. I played Red War and everything felt strange looking at it from a new players perspective as everything just seems to fall into place. Now with account transfers this will probably fix the issue however for New Light Players I still think Veteran Dialogue should be able to be toggled on and off. A good example of how this would fix things was when Destiny 2 came out I played the first 4 hours and continue to play it on Console. I decided to play the PC version with my Girlfriend and some other friends and the one problem they had was a lack of context for certain characters which I then had to tell them about. The example I want to pin point is on the first Titan mission where Zavala says “No one has seen Cayde, Ikora or Eris since the city fell” which was a reply to Ghost talking about the Hive on the planet which is a great nod for veterans. However the Hive are simply brushed off for non veteran accounts and I think a good way of introducing them would be for Zavala to brief the player on their history thus far in the events and also give hints to Eris Morn being an expert on the Hive. Doing this will give context to the faction and a major character in the franchise which could encourage exploration of the Destiny 1 Grimoire and Wiki Pages.
