Forum Feedback

Hey all, Pinning this to the Destiny 2 forum, as I'm currently looking through some feedback on our forums and structure. I recently did a quick tweet asking players who may not visit the forums here on Bungie.net some questions, as I'd love to make this place more appealing for the broad community. Now, I'm looking for feedback from those who are on here more frequently, namely you! This isn't a question of what we can do better in terms of making in-game changes to Destiny 2. My goals here are to get some thoughts from you on the current state of our forums. If you could answer the following, it'd be much appreciated.
• What do you find most important to your browsing experience? • Do you find yourself frequently engaging with forums, or more often browsing associated media/group messaging apps for information/discussion? (Think Twitter, Discord, Youtube, etc) • What changes would you like to see that would make the Bungie.net forums a more welcoming place for community engagement?
For one you could start using these forums to communicate with us instead of using your brain dead basement streamers who are pretty much your "made up" destiny community that do not represent us at all. Ditch the basement streamers and start communicating with us! We are your "real community".... Not someone named datto or cringy gotthalion or dearex... quit trying to shove this crap down our throats. That would be a great start!

  • Well, this is your app/forum and you should be here to get feedback or answer questions, but you all would rather use Clitter. I don't look at Clitter for destiny info, so the info I get is usually from other people here since you guys will use a different site other than your own to get info out there. I understand you probably reach more people on other sites so I then ask myself why do you even have this app if the info isn't put here first or at least at the same time as other sites. If your own site can't have priority for new info then maybe get rid of it all together .

  • Also, open up your blocking function. I don’t want to just mute someone I don’t want to interact with. If your ninjas, mods and yourself can’t be asked with keeping a healthy forum, let me perma block people. I don’t want them seeing me and my info, posts, game history and so on if I have chose to block them. Or just moderate the forums properly and remove the trolls and bait comments/posts.

  • Changes to the forum: actually moderate it and remove the trolls permanently. Actually interact with us here instead of playing favorites to the toxic dumpster fire of reddit (once you get actually do something about the rampant toxicity here because you can control it here... this place will won’t ALSO be a toxic dumpster fire). Talk with the community instead of being secretive. Interact with the discussions we have on a consistent basis when they are constructive conversations. “Passing it along” is not what anyone wants to hear when there is major problems they have with the game.

  • How about Bungie employees actually read these more than twitter or twitch and maybe start valuing the average gamer's opinion more than YouTubers and Twitch streamers once in a while. You have a summit and invite ONE person from the community?!?! Seriously?! ONE!? It's crap, man.

    • If you want more people to use this forum more, the majority of bungies contact should be here first. I feel like this forum is the last place to receive updates, feedback, and communication from bungie.

      • Reverse the purge, custom avatars AND karma titles to reward good behavior. Maybe implement a system where if you have a certain karma level you get access to certain titles/ unlock the custom avatar ability so you don’t get a ton of trolls posting dick pics or whatever as their icon.

        • I would like you to look at how DE ‘manage’ and interact with their community. Then compare it to the dated, stuffy, laboured and slow way that Bungie interact with the Destiny community. Then start a program of change to modernise and expand the interaction. I would like Bungie to focus on the majority of the community that occupies the middle ground between the handful of hours a week players and the streamers that play as a job. I would like a dedicated Fanfic section of the forum. It is not lore. However people put a lot if effort into some of it and it deserves its own, proper, home.

          •
• What do you find most important to your browsing experience?
Feedback forums. People post some really great ideas that get blown over and ignored, and it's nice to see how passionate the player base is. Plus as someone who doesn't play but stays informed about the game, the feedback form is a great place to learn what the good, bad, and ugly are at any point in the game.
• Do you find yourself frequently engaging with forums, or more often browsing associated media/group messaging apps for information/discussion? (Think Twitter, Discord, Youtube, etc)
Don't use many other social media outlets, plus with the app, access to the forums are super convenient.
• What changes would you like to see that would make the Bungie.net forums a more welcoming place for community engagement?
Engage more. When mistakes are made, own up to them. I have 100x more respect for people who admit they make a mistake, and take actions to attempt to fix them, than pretend like they never happened at all. Prime example: Both core "discussion" posts of yours. That was a failed attempt to keep all the core posts to one form. Not only that, you guys contributed to absolutely zero discussion. Over 5000+ posts. Most of them people against cores for infusion, and trolls. A discussion also actually entails dialogue between 2 or more individuals. It does not entail you making a post, and ending with, what do you think? and then not talking to/responding to people in the community within that post. Another thing, is enough with the secrecy. I expect that from the government, not a video game producer. You guys are tight lipped about practically everything before release of dlc. How about giving more information? I'm not saying tell us everything, but I am saying engage more with us.

Noone needs these one-way street pseudo-conversations that eventually always result in nothing changing anyway.

            • Hi 1. I normally come on, hit “All” then go to “New” and see if any topics appeal to me. As far as browsing... maybe a “most popular” tab. 2. I’m pretty much the only one in my clan who comes here rather than twitter or reddit. Possibly some in game links or just a little advertising in game or in TWAB might bolster the numbers. 4. It’s the internet so not really sure how to make it more welcoming.... that’s a tough one! Good luck with that! I do enjoy seeing community managers showing up in here and posting. Maybe some little gems of info or updates on progress for future content would really change things. Well, thanks for listening, keep up the good work! 👍

            • What I find most important are the updates coming out (nerfs, buffs, add-ons, complaints). So that way to better my mind set of adaptation. Sometimes being engaged in to someone’s opinion can be a mistake. So I read, I give a bump or keep it moving. YouTube, I do like when you update it and how everyone looks when they are talking about what they love, especially the latest 14min session giving us feed back on what’s to come for Shadow Keep. That was great. I would like to at least see thing of that nature instead of an hour to two hour video with like three ppl in a chair. I love the engagement you’ve shown with your team (they are not employee’s, they are part of an incredible clan with different fire teams) and their passion. If corporations paid attention all they way down to the littles guy (female or male - its a military thing) and everyone was happy in some sort. Everything would blossom. But these forms could be so crucial and a person can only take so much negativity. I’m proud and happy to be part of your community. What I would like to see change is to have Bungie fire back like DMG did. That was funny. Showing that side shows your not just a corporate person, but one of us. Like I said, you can only take so much negativity. In the forms give: highlights and draw backs. Every time we finish a training session or meetings we have something called AAR - After Action Report. Make a post 1 or 2 weeks later after an update and little by little instead of complaints they will be known as Draw Backs (not mistakes or improvements needed or sarcasm), also Highlights. Reason for this post is to show engagement on what matters most. I know there is a section in forms for it, but if you make it like this post right now, ppl will be engaged. Also on the log-in screen before our Character selection, let players know that there is a feedback option in the app and welcome them to give it. Not many ppl know about this place. For instance, make the post, give your personal feed back (Highlights and Drawbacks). And watch it bloom. Hell do an AAR on your videos too, and upcoming updates. You see, three questions turn in to this. Sometimes guidance can be a little light in the dark, now make it burn Bungie and set the Iron to FIRE!! LIGHT THE WAY BUNGIE AND BURN IT BRIGHT, SET THE LIGHT AND WATCH US FIGHT!!! AAAAAHHHHHH (lord of the rings 3 Ride to Rohirrim lol). Hey real quick, (I really got in to that) is ever going to be possible to at least have around-ish 100 players in an epic battle of MAYHAM (Supers every 3 seconds (dream play)) against an army (no least then 1000 (maybe 5000 for level one)) of hives, vex, taken, the other guy. And bosses included in the army attack too like 200 BIG TANK guys. I would call it Almighty. Or whatever. Just a big open giant battle. That would be insane. Thank god I got that out. Always wanted to ask. Thank for everything Bungie. I look forward when You put this game in VR and make it like ready player one. Pretty sure your going in that direction. See ya Guardian.

              • Strickly regarding the forums and the app? Okay. The forums themselves don't need too too much. What needs changed is the attitude of the people behind it. I know you (dmg) and Cozmo try, but in the end that's not nearly enough. The "we'll pass it along" lines don't make the cut to the point where they're a meme. The whole hush-hush attitude from the devs has got to go. We need to discuss thoughts and idea, not be kept quiet. This is the biggest and most tragic fault of Bungie as a company. You seem to treat you fanbase as though they owe you everything, not the other way around. While some fans are spoiled, zealous, or just plain stupid, there are a few with great ideas and their ideas should be actively shared. However Bungie seems to treat everyone as an idiot. These policies are holding you back as a company. On a slightly different note, the fireteam finder needs a massive rework. I'm not a fan of it's "first come, first serve" format. I am also not a fan of the inability to post any kind of dialogue about what you're trying to achieve in an activity. It needs scrapped in favor of the old fireteam finder and whoever greenlighted the change needs kicked in the shins daily for the rest of their career.

#destiny2 should be renamed #thesaltmines and #destinydiscussions should be made for non-toxic discussions on the game

                • The bungie forums should be the number one destination for all things Destiny. The first and last destination for both player and developer. Communication and thus a healthy relationship would be renewed and strengthened each and every day. As it is now, we've got the fluff/used car salesman of a TWAB (weekly) and whatever grapefruits you guys feel like hitting over the Centerfield fence (daily). Your engagement is currently poor and generally lackluster. It reads like, ' we're saying something without saying anything'. It's communication without communicating. There isn't alot of integrity present. Finally, you need to enforce your code of conduct. Your audience needs to learn some manners. Foul language should not be tolerated. Curse words are the greatest shortcut to thinking... That's why curses can literally mean anything. There are respectful ways to talk around the curses while making your meaning CLEAR. It wouldn't hurt the forums to think more.

                    • Here's some feedback that I'll definitely get shit for. Your fix in the menagerie was uncalled for and bullshit. Why You may ask? Because no one and I mean no one wants to spend two mins with there thumbs up there ass looking for the urns that are the lore. There is a majority of people who don't care. That lore should have been put at the end as you open the chest. We played menagerie for the loot not the lore. You want us to explore then make it a patrol area. An if anything the fix should have been reducing the runes to cap at 10. Because having 40 some odd runes for just one run is stupid. Ibplayed earlier in the day because I didn't face the third boss yet. An as soon as we got done every one but me later none of them open the chest I was the only one who did. The fix was stupid and uncalled for.

                    • O developer mine. The forum is flooded with so much hate. It is infested with so many trolls. It is plagued with overall negativity. Frankly, no amount of remodeling will purge the forum of these impurities. My only requests are a better filtering system (sorting fanfics, crucible feedback, qol, etc...) that sorts into your own “channel.” Also, on the channel idea, maybe a way to subscribe to certain people and get notified when they create a thread or become active in another.
Note: An army of Ninjas is not the solution to the toxicity.
Good luck, O developer mine.

Your company responses in this forum seem like posts only, not answers to players concerns. It feels like you guys SAY you are reading these but really doing so. Sure the twab is nice and other content about updates is o.k., but it feels like this site is only page three in a newspaper when it should feel like a full magazine of stuff. Be good.

Dmg04! Hi DUDE!!! Groups on BNET need some love. They are nearly impossible to find, on both the App and the website. Specifically the App can't even access the private group forums unless it's through a browser. So many users are leaving and joining Discord, and this is just one reason stated by someone else. The App is behind technically speaking, It should access everything the desktop users can.
Lee said that; he wanted to add; he would steal your toes, but I didn't let him
