Our current sandbox has little to NO room for SCOUT RIFLES. This weapon archetype has been invaded by specific weapons in other weapon archetypes such as Ace of Spades, Blast Furnace, and many others. These weapons have ranges allowing them to dominate SCOUT RIFLES in 90% of the CRUCIAL lanes and choke points. I believe this is caused by allowing weapons outside of the SCOUT RIFLE archetype to have RANGE values far extending that of each map's DESIGN. Below are details of optimal time to kill ranges for some of the most noticeable weapons.
EXAMPLES BELOW:
ACE OF SPADES: 3 tap potential: 33-35 METERS
ACE OF SPADES: (Memento Mori): 3 tap potential 43-45 METERS
BLAST FURNACE: 2 burst potential about 70 METERS
The MAJORITY of the significant LANES and CHOKE points vary between 20-55 METERS within Destiny 2's map selection. Here BELOW are some examples of THE LONGEST LANES in DESTINY 2.
1.) EQUINOX:
- A or C Flag's Staircase is approximately 60 METERS away from B Flag.
- A Flag Staircase to C Flag Staircase is approximately a 90 meter distance (This is the LONGEST "lane" in Destiny 2)
2.)CITADEL
-B Flag's Lane is an approximate 60 meter distance.
-C Flag's Side Staircase to B Flag rocks. (Aiming towards heavy) furthest distance is about 75 METERS MAX.
- Lane in the Center of CITADEL is approximately 30-35 METERS.
3.) THE FORTRESS
- Longest lane covered was from A far rock to FORTRESS heavy spawn at approximately 75 METERS.
These are pretty much all of the examples of SCOUT RIFLE ranges in the entirety of DESTINY 2. (With the exception of 1 or 2 more lanes) With that being said SCOUT RIFLES are out of their element and have no place to compete within DESTINY 2. This is just a poll to see if the community agrees with this issue. If enough of the community can bring attention to this issue I believe this will be something that cannot be ignored and will be addressed by the Bungie Team. 1 ReplyYes scout rifles are outclassed since Bungie decided to make smaller maps. Some of them are still good but it comes down to style of play mainly. I have a decent rolled Black Scorpion and I love it in crucible. It destroys but no one talks about it. Everyone is hand cannon this, pulse rifle that and recluse this.

That's a lot of CAPS and bold letters

1 ReplyWhere's the "They're alright" option? You've only got options for "They're the greatest thing since sliced bread," "They're the worst thing in the game," and "I have no idea what you are talking about."
-
I used to have a lot of fun with MIDA back in D1 PVP - and scouts desperately needs a comeback to counter the influx of sniper rifles due to Revoker quest and Beloved. Don't get me wrong, I really like my Revoker, but the scout should be the antidote to snipers. It's not right that pulse rifles out-distance scout rifles with lower TTK even at range. I think scout rifles should create stronger flinch, and be less prone to flinch themselves -- and pulse rifle distance should be nerfed to be a tier below scouts. Scouts are outclassed almost every time, in nearly every situation. At least one or two of them should really shine to be the sniper killer.
-
2 RepliesMIDA is still very consistent, and Polaris Lance is great on a select few maps. Almost every other Scout sucks aside from maybe the Scourge one with Box Breathing but I don't have it so I can't say.
-
3 RepliesNah. Learn to use them and then you'll see they're fine.
-
3 RepliesI kill plenty with my scout in PvP. People have even tried to claim Jade Rabbit was OP in PvP while I was grinding the catalyst. Maybe you're all doing it wrong
-
5 RepliesScouts are not inferior at all just not alot of them are useable or require specific perks and skill. Nightwatch is very strong and most of its rolls aren't bad unless you get subsistence which i wouldn't recommend on a scout. Scouts are situational and best when paired with a weapon for close/mid range. Just because they afe situational does not mean they are bad.

Edited by darkconsole: 7/2/2019 12:12:44 AMscout rifles haven't had their place in the game period since basically ever. they are airsoft guns.
-
Edited by Skarz1989: 7/1/2019 11:54:50 PMGarden Progeny 1. It's a Jade Rabbit without the reload perk. Still 3 taps in Gambit/Crucible and can 5 tap in Gambit against an invader. Use a better scout
-
3 RepliesThey nerfed scout rifles to cater to modded controller users and aimbot users , scout rifle was the only way to shut them down but Bungie being Bungie decided to help the cheaters not punish them.
-
4 RepliesScouts aren't the problem, the maps are
-
Scout rifles had a place in the crucible?
-
Scout flinch and smaller maps puts them at a massive disadvantage. Now, I've dropped a we ran with my vision of confluence no feelings, but it was on a map where I could lane well. Much harder to do than with something like last word.
-
Many D1 maps would fix that... Hint hint bungie
-
The problem isn't map size for scout range, it's that pulse and some HC and autos can out shoot them in what should be a scouts prime range without drop off. I usually run pvp with my Frostmires Hex and it's an absolute blast.
-
1 ReplyThey’re good just not good on the current D2 maps. On some maps I just use a scout like wormhaven and I do good at clearing the sniping lanes. But on maps like Pacific arcology or something is a very close map so scouts just can’t perform. If bungie brought back those maps where you could pull your sparrow out it would be top tier. Also bring back Widows Court because on that specific map you could use just about any weapon and be good unlike the anomaly. (matador64)(partycrasher)
-
I think the biggest problem is that the maps are too small. You have a few spots that work well for scouts but most of the time you're 100x better off using a decent pulse rifle instead.
-
1 ReplyGraviton lance 3 taps from anywhere, i like it but man would I love to use my jade rabbit again.
-
Until they completely get rid of the Mida Multi-Tool it will always be my favorite Scout rifle, and yet I have watched it turn into a rather -blam!--hum tool. I went back to D1 to play with mine to remember the feel of it and became very sad. D1 had many things right and the Mida was one of them. Why can't we just use the guns we like? Who does it hurt when my Mida takes you out when you have taken me out with a one shot Hand Cannon 3 times? Just stupid. I shoot real guns on a real range. I'll stick to my awesome rifle.
-
1 Replyif someone thinks scout rifles are pointless or need a buff or anything, they havent played trials of MIDA. buff scout rifles?? no thank you very much.
-
1 ReplyScout rifles have been pointless since d2 launched. Always used one in D1, by far the most versatile weapon. In D2 though they feel like trash, poor handling, low mag size, weak, slow to ads. They are out classed by pulse rifles at most ranges.

The RPG style text highlighting is an odd choice, but otherwise this is a well articulated and thought out post.

1 ReplyWhen I saw this thread I assumed it was another scrub complaining that scout rifles need to be buffed so they can crouch in the back of the map and third-party their way to a positive kd. But you hit the nail right on the head with the problem being map design and other weapons having ranges that go into scout rifle territory. Although I personally don't care because I think scout rifles are the most low-skill and annoying weapons in the game and if I had it my way I would never see one in Crucible again, I agree that they don't have a place. But I do not think they need to be buffed in any way, we need better map design and range on other weapons toned down.

Scouts are good . People just don’t know how to use them . To much shot gunning messed up their game sense . All they know now . is to ape rush
-
Wouldn't say they're horrible, but not that great either. I find lightweight and high impact frames being the only relevant scouts though. With the exotics of them being the ones most used, and with snipers climbing up they'll see more use.
