Where to start if I’m just getting back into Destiny
I left in the middle of black armory. What’s the first thing I should do? What’s the pvp/pve meta?

try some gambit prime and get some of its quests handled grind you some tier 1 armor u like and use that to bring you into oplulance, thats what i did with my hunter

Go grab benedicts quest. He has been moved back by the drifter when you load in. Do all of it and get a full set of 690 blue gear. Completing it once will give it to all your guardians. Finish this first and then do milestones and new content.

Go to spider first. Get two cores. Then go to gunsmith and get core bounties. Then go to sweeper bot and do the mission to get 690 gear. Then do whatever. Infuse when u get a matching item or when u hit 750 or maybe just a favorite or two when they drop 20 light below or so.

Do the quest for Benedict first. It'll power level you directly to 690 and open up nearly all of the content. From there, play what you want to play.

I demolished year one and was out. I just loaded back up last week and it’s all about mapping it out. Sitting at 730 already which I think is solid for 9 days.

Doesn't really matter since u can reach max light by killing boars in the forrest

I left mid joker’s wild and can back for the start of penumbra. Just do the benedict quest to increase light and some menagerie. I’ve got back into destiny pretty quick and am now playing much more casually (rather than chasing powerful gear since most of it will probably become redundant during solstice).

1 ReplyDo the nightfall followed by strikes, dreaming city bounties, flash point, dailies, and if you're up to it Gambit stuff and PvP. In that order for fastest results. Make sure you pick up the gunsmith bounties every day (and I mean every day) because enhancement cores are.... you'll see. When you hit 700 go for black hammer, truth, and outbreak prime. Really theres no wrong way to grind.

Complete the quest from benedict before doing anything else. these will drop blue 690 gear which will bump up your light. Get the loaded question fusion rifle quest from zavala as well as the wendigo grenade launcher quest both are extremely valuable in pve. New meta pve consist of fireteams using outbreak perfected because it works like a buffed version of malfeasance and the damage stacks on itself the more you shoot a target. The wendigo is a great heavy weapon but the bounty for it is a bit tedious. All thats changed with pvp is people using lord of wolves now that the perk is toggled rather than having prerequisites to trigger it. Edit: also when upgrading your chalice of opulence go for power and efficiency II before any other perks. If you dont you wont be able to earn imperials which you need to actually upgrade your chalice. if you dont, your only source of imperials will be the bounties offered by werner and menagerie triumph completions

Do the 690 powersurge. Get recluse. It’s a monster in both PVP and PvE

Get Recluse. All you have to do is get Fabled, and it’s beastly in PvE. Passable in PvP.

Definitely the benedict mission to hit 690 light then unlock your chalice, try to get enough imperials to unlock power and efficiency 2 so you can get imperials whilst doing strikes, crucible or gambit. Then its just a matter of doing what ever you enjoy to level up. As for pvp meta its dependant on whether your on console or pc, lord of wolves is a menace in the crucible on pc but on console the meta is pretty much unchanged from when you left.
