Why I hate Raid Mechanics.

I was playing Rekindle the Flames, a black armory mission, when it occurred to me to ask the question: Why the actual f does this mission exist. What is the purpose. I bought this game to play a SHOOTER. Not a platformer/jumping game. I am honestly clueless as to why Bungie continues to believe that we just LOVE jumping puzzles and weird/odd mechanics. NO. MOST OF US HATE THEM. I just wanna kill stuff but for some unknown reason am not enticed to play any of the endgame content because it always has useless mechanics like this. Here’s my suggestion: let me shoot things in my first person SHOOTER. Make a raid that just has an amazing, overwhelming amount of enemies as opposed to these mechanics that most players don’t even begin to understand. I ran every single raid in destiny 1, and can honestly say I haven’t played one yet that I’ve enjoyed because the mechanics induce such unnecessary stress. I don’t care if I literally have to kill a million thralls, that’s more cathartic than having to stand on a platform and shoot this, punch that, and balance 5 spoons on my face, etc. You get the point. This mission broke me, cause I guess I don’t understand why it would be so hard to make a end game activity without any mechanics like this. I mean Bungie already knows it works?!?! The early halo games were very difficult if you played LASO, just gimme a ton of very tough enemies instead of 1 that’s invincible til we fetch empowerment and a certain weapon and use a certain etc. you get my point. Destiny’s draw, for me at least, has never been these mechanics. It is the fact that above all else, Destiny has excellent gunplay and movement mechanics. I love how the characters feel and fight. Lean into THOSE mechanics. LET YOUR PLAYERS FEEL LIKE BADA**ES. Don’t make them LITERALLY jump through hoops for you. I hope someone/anyone sees this

  • Raid mechanics are the downfall of destiny. There is nothing wrong with having mechanics but make them fun not boring and wonky . Put the difficulty in taking out the boss and the enemy's like in a GM . I ran every raid and the most fun was just looking at everything the ads drop like flies and the mechanics were a big thorn of lame.

  • I don’t mind the idea of mechanics, just not timers and auto wipes. It’s basically synchronized swimming where everyone gets their thing right or the whole team dies. I know people will say bullet sponges and constantly shooting enemies isn’t fun, but what I just described above is in no way fun to me. I literally laughed out loud the first time I tried Last Wish and found out we had to play a timed, death defying game of match the pictures on the wall in the middle of a boss battle. And more than once at that. That’s laughably absurd. 😂😂😂 I don’t mind it being challenging, but not like that. If I’m going to spend a long time doing something, I’d rather it be because it takes time to do it. Not because I have to redo it dozens and dozens of times until everyone does everything exactly right. That is the opposite of fun to me. Destiny raids are among the most tedious and unpleasant activities in all of gaming to me. I’d gladly limit myself to a single raid reward a week from a less annoying version that took twice as long but was actually fun.

        • Raids should absolutely have mechanics that require teamwork. I enjoy difficult combat as well but that doesn’t play into working as a team nearly as much (which is what makes raids fun and engaging imo) I do think there’s something to be said for that type of content though, I would personally love to see something of a solo activity with the angle of challenging your combat skills and ability to survive left to your own devices with a load of strong enemies. It would just have to be paced right and done in a manner that’s a bit more clever than just endless enemies tho

I sort of understand disliking the puzzle aspects of the encounters in the game, especially some of the more esoteric ones like the gauntlet in leviathan or the orbs and pillars on the ogre boss in last wish. That’s why I actually preferred the cluster bomb strategy for Riven. Having to do an overly elaborate encounter isn’t fun. Being able to just say “screw the mechanics” and blow the boss up with rocket launchers is not only drastically more fun but should be an alternative strategy for every encounter as far as I’m concerned. “I’m a reality bending wish dragon behold my powers!” “No thanks. Eat rockets!” After all, the entire theme of destiny is that any other worldly threat can be taken out with heavy ordinance.

          • I just looked you up on Destiny Raid Report and I think it is very interesting that you have never been in a raid before and you are complaining about Raid mechanics. That mission didn’t have any Raid mechanics in it either. Just a small amount of platforming. His name is EternalT4CO

            • Counter argument: Games are boring without a challenge. Go play DOOM on the easiest mode, it's not fun, it's just mindless shooting with no challenge. Mechanics and puzzles are put into place to break the monotony and challenge the player. Personally, if they released a raid that had a flow of "Kill enemies, loot" I'd fall asleep doing it.

Uh, you missed the memo buddy. Destiny is an MMOFPSRPG, shooting is just part of the action. Take your thumbless complaints to a different game.

            • Mindless shooting gets dull eventually. There are plenty of other games out there which offer that though. Now, you'll have to excuse me, gotta see if I can get that 6th spoon onto my face...

            • As someone who use to carry ppl in raids in D1 and hated the d2 raids the crown of Sorrow raid is the only raid that enticed me into raiding again and I actually enjoy it, I would give that one a try over the others

            • What are you talking about? There are no raid mechanics anywhere in that quest, and the hardest thing you have to do is a harder than normal strike. Also where are these jumping puzzles you’re having trouble with? The only thing I can think of in that quest is jumping over a few gaps or falling once and if you can’t handle a strike that’s kind of sad.

            • Yeah, because endlessly shooting things is fun. I’d want to have to think a little bit when doing the most challenging content this game has to offer.

I guess nothing gauges your interest much, in playing for the superb feel and work put in to the game play side of things.
