Blackout has no place in the Menagerie

While some encounters are tolerable with it two currently remain unacceptable. The Hunted: The instakilling thrall swarms are bad enough but once the knights spawn in this just gets infuriating. The enclosed space ensures you’ll either be against the knight or the thrall and the knights are capable of OHK’s on even 750 guardians when blackout it on, tearing through respawn shielding and jumping is of no help. The Riposte: Blackout with the ogres and the fact you are required to get in melee range makes this nearly intolerable. The ogre slams wipe out your team and there is genuinely no way to avoid it as you have to get up close and personal to break shields.

  • I love the concept of Blackout, the fact you can't see where your enemies are coming from is a good mechanic. That being said the massive meelee damage buff is a tad ridiculous. Those should have been 2 independent modifiers.

    • It’s not that bad honestly. Even with randoms, just play like no one else has your back. Obviously I could say just look around you, that’s isn’t always easy but stay moving and look around. Even with randoms last night we were able to pull off several of the Triumphs, not just boss encounter ones but Lamps, Gauntlet....it’s just about being that much more aware.

    • You need to be quick like a cat. Silent as a shadow. Turn the modifiers against them. Blackout only works if you fail to kill them before they reach you.

      • The Menagerie is pretty straightforward, so Blackout just means you have to keep an eye on your surroundings more.

        • It seems like the only way Bungie can make "challenging" content with Matchmaking is to just add modifiers that make enemies 1hk you. And keep deaths due to OP modifiers isn't even a challenge.. Face it, without mods like Grounded or Blackout, It'd be nigh impossible to fail Reckoning or Menagerie. Speaking of, has anyone else noticed that Wizards (both hive/taken) (especially in Gambit) now straight Insta kill you in like 2 hits from their jazz hand projectiles. This has never happened to me prior to Opulence coming out. What gives??

        • Get rid of blackout and replace it with harsh elements! I'd rather keep my radar and get rekt by the acolyte in addition to the thrall.

          Heroic Menagerie, black out and extinguish, plus enemies 20 levels above delta, I can totally see it being a Well of Radiance activity, and even then, depending on how many enemies, are smacking you with black out, Well isn't enough to save you. I can already see it being complained about, rightfully so too.

          • Just wait til heroic menagerie with blackout and how that wipes many fireteams back to orbit. Fun times lol. But I agree it shouldn’t be in menagerie period. Especially when using swords trying to kill stomping ogres and sword swinging knights!

            • Totally agree, until the AOE is reduced a bit it is obnoxious. In a well and 20- 30 feet from the knight and still get a 1 hit KO? Ridiculous

              • Whenever you enter an activity with modifiers in Destiny 2, any activity whatsoever, there is at least a 50/50 chance (probably higher) that blackout is on. It is by far the most prevalent modifier in D2.

              • Even with a well of radiance and ward of dawn you still die by the ogres in riposte. This modifier is broken.

                • When people were posting these on the first week, they were downvoted into oblivion. Now they're actually being taken with a grain of salt haha. I completely agree by the way. Blackout does not make the game more "challenging." Challenges are things you have to use effort to overcome and if you fail, you can learn from them. Getting one shot by a thrall when you spawn multiple times is not a challenge.

                • I'm just wondering when the Reckoning bridge encounter won't be so tedious. Compared to menagerie, doing the reckoning with bad modifiers with randoms is nearly impossible. And all that, for a piece of random armor, and maybe a weapon. It could be fixed in two ways. 1. Remove the Stompy McStompers in favor of some majors and stuff. 2. More loot at the end, guarantee a random weapon from Reckoing, and the helmet bounties should be changed to give you the highest tier helmet you can get. If you start a helmet bounty variant for the first time, say, the sentry on, it will drop at illicit the first time you complete it. Then you have to wait until next week to do it again so it drops at outlaw. Then you have to do it again so it finally drops at notorious. 3 weeks for a helmet. I can get a full set of menagerie armor at the end of one run.

                  • What's ridiculous is when you put a Ward of Dawn down only for the big axe knight to pop it in a single swing. Riposte is just unplayable on blackout. Whole fireteam spends more time on the floor than fighting. It's also ironic they call it the riposte when you can't even block with knight cleavers. The menagerie is fun, but blackout ruins it. Just turns it into a game of dirt naps or running away like pansies because the enemy has melee cheat codes turned on. I don't even care about the radar part; I never even look at the thing since I'm in 3rd person with a sword most of the time.

                  • For the thrall part sunshot is useful. The solar explosions do pretty well in crowd control.
