I think the whole murder of Kayde was a setup by Preta to frame Utrim. It's obvious by how she has taken over that she wants to be Queen of the Woke people. When Queen was supposedly killed, she saw her chance. She probably intended to get w Utrim since he would be King w his sister gone. However, he likely rejected her, so she had to plan b it. That's when she killed Kade and framed Utrim. Unfortunately, Moyra Salve showed back up, so Petra had to lock her in the big ball in the Dreaming City. With everyone out of the way, Petra is free to be Queen of the Woke.
