Reddit is an entirely different animal than Bnet. The user base is so large it's entirely possible to spend months on the site and never notice the same user twice. And it's not a good environment for actual conversation because of the way it's structured. And yes, it tends to be an echo chamber in most subs. Although that's pretty common in any online forum.
But it's an excellent place to get the latest news. Often times stuff will appear there before it even hits the media. Firsthand pics, videos, and accounts from people actually on the scene happen all the time. And there's a lot of community-driven events that make the place pretty cool. Reddit's secret santa and their "random acts of pizza" make me smile.
It has its ups and downs. But it's certainly not a "replacement' for a more traditional forum like this one, if that's what you're after.
